At dawn one April day, the top of the Huangshan Mountain was a world floating in a sea of clouds and pine trees as French photographer Nicolas Cornet quickly took photos of the
breathtaking scene. This was Cornet’s eighth time at Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province.
The Frenchman’s fascination with Huangshan Mountain began about a decade ago when he came across photos of the mountain by a Canadian photographer. He was immediately drawn by the mountain’s “mysterious landscape” and started planning his own trip there. In 2016, Cornet
made his first visit to Huangshan Mountain. The moment he set eyes on the unusual pine trees (松树) and rock formations, and endless sea of clouds, he was fascinated.
That first encounter drew him back to Huangshan Mountain seven more times over the following nine years. For Cornet, the mountain never lost its charm as each season and each change in weather revealed a fresh landscape.
Cornet’s visits eventually paid off with a black-and-white photo series about the mountain posted on his photography website. In February this year, Cornet’s photographs were exhibited at the Xposure International Photography Festival in the United Arab Emirates. He says that while many visitors had never heard of the mountain before, some began planning trips after seeing his photos.
The photographer says Huangshan Mountain has offered him far more than amazing
images; it has opened a window to Chinese hospitality (好客). He says that as Huangshan
Mountain continues to gain international recognition, services have been improving to
accommodate the growing number of overseas visitors. He also praises China’s visa-free entry policy (政策), which made his two most recent trips to Huangshan Mountain much easier.
He has already planned his next trip to Huangshan Mountain. With a new cable way set to open, he says he looks forward to exploring and photographing parts of the mountain that were previously less accessible. “It will open up new creative opportunities for me.”

anti-counterfeiting (防伪) patterns. The use of paper money greatly changed trade and business in China. It made transactions easier and boosted economic growth.
The invention of paper money had a significant impact on trade and commerce in China.
With the availability of paper money, merchants and traders no longer had to rely on heavy metal currencies like copper coins and silver ingots for transactions. Moreover, paper money was more convenient to carry, making it easier for people to conduct business over long distances.
With paper money, trade volume increased significantly, as merchants and traders could conduct transactions more easily and efficiently. Paper money reduced transaction costs, as
merchants and traders no longer had to pay for the transportation and storage of heavy metal
currencies. Paper money improved economic efficiency by reducing the need for intermediaries and increasing the speed of transactions.
The risk of inflation (通货膨胀) was a major challenge associated with paper money in
China, as the government tended to print more money to finance its military campaigns and other expenses. ★Another challenge associated with paper money was counterfeiting, as criminals were able to produce fake money that could be used to deceive merchants and traders. The introduction of paper money also contributed to economic instability in China, as the government struggled to maintain a stable economy and prevent inflation.
Despite its challenges, the introduction of paper money brought significant benefits to
ancient China. It boosted trade volume, lowered transaction costs, and improved economic
efficiency. Additionally, it increased credit availability, raised living standards, and helped reduce poverty.

The Grand Canal, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, dates back to the fifth century BC. 34 . Spanning about 1,710 km, it links five major river systems: the Hai,

One sunny afternoon my elder brother Ricky and I were sitting in the back seat of my dad’s black truck. We were excited! Our first time to Six Flags! While backing out of our driveway, I
rolled down the window.
The drive to Six Flags wasn’t long since we lived near the freeway. As we passed the
bridge, I knew we were getting close. As we sat in the car, I was wearing a pink blouse with
leggings. I had tied my hair into a braid. My brother was wearing a black T-shirt with shorts on. Ricky was eleven and I was eight years old. “Liz, we’re finally getting to Six Flags!” he told me.
We got off the freeway and entered the parking lot. It took us about twenty minutes to find parking. As we walked to the park, I remembered that there was a Christmas specially planned for that day. I could smell popcorn and hear people screaming on roller coasters. Also I saw an area
with snow that looked like shaved ice.
My dad said, “Let’s go to the gift shop first.” Ricky and I looked at all the toys. Our eyes
looked like giant snow balls. Our dad said we could only get one thing. We ran to the area with all the beautiful toys. I picked out my favorite, Tweety Bird. When Ricky and I turned back around, we couldn’t see our dad anymore.
Ricky said, “Hold my hand and stay close.” I was so scared that my face looked like a
tomato. We had no phone to contact our dad, so we stayed where we were. Ten minutes later we saw a guy with the same clothing as our dad. We ran to him, but it turned out that his face looked nothing like our dad’s.

【原文】M: Good evening, everyone! Today, I want to tell you about a project we started to keep our town’s history from fading away. It’s easy to miss how old landmarks slowly disappear in
daily life, but around here, historic buildings have been disappearing pretty fast. Our town has a
line of old stone cottages — each over 100 years old — located alongside a narrow river. Lately, developers have been tearing them down to put up modern apartment buildings, and with that, the stories behind these homes are being forgotten. That’s why I came up with a plan to get people to notice. I started “Legacy Homes” — a project where I made hundreds of metal plates, each with
the year the cottage was first built. I gave these plates to the current owners, who put them on their front doors. Local school kids then looked into each cottage’s history, writing short stories about who lived there long ago, and stuck those next to the plates. Luckily, our efforts have paid off:
several old homes have already been fixed up instead of being destroyed. And in the future, we’re going to do even more.
