What is the future of AI (人工智能) Will it be a good thing We asked four students what they think.
Liu Lei I think AI will be more useful in our future lives. It’s now used in many fields, like phones and medicine. No one really knows what will happen if machines become smarter than humans. However, I’m sure AI will help us solve many problems.
Xu Lu I’m worried that people create something that can be better than themselves. In the near future, AI will develop at a high speed. Humans may be replaced (取代) because AI robots will do a lot of work instead of people.
Zhao Mingming I really think that Al will change the way we work, the way we live, and the way we think. Imagine if we could put a CPU into our brains! Soon we’ll be able to improve our math and memory. How exciting!
Molly Think of what’s happening now. Some robots are used to kill animals. So I think AI will be very dangerous for humans, too. We need to be careful about what we ask machines to do.
21 .Why does Xu Lu think that humans may be replaced
A .Because humans are smarter than AI.
B .Because AI robots will do lots of human jobs.
C .Because humans will put a CPU into our brains.
D .Because we can’t improve our math and memory.
22 .What does Molly think of the future of AI

Baidu, a Chinese search engine and artificial intelligence firm, announced its latest electric autonomous driving vehicle, Apollo RT6, on Thursday. The new vehicle is a fully electric vehicle with a steering wheel (方向盘) that can be removed when not required. It will cost 250,000 per unit.
“The steering-wheel-free design allows more space for extra seating or other additions and the massive cost reduction will enable us to put tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles into
operation across China,” Robin Li, co-founder and CEO of Baidu, said at the firm's Baidu World Conference Thursday. “We are moving towards a future where taking a robotaxi will be half the cost of taking a taxi today.”
Baidu already runs Apollo Go and Apollo Moon, taxi services using self-driving robotaxis with safety staff seated in the driver or passenger seat. They have been in operation in big cities
like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, although the service is limited to specific areas. The new vehicle will soon join those robotaxis.
The RT6 has reached the industry's Level 4 out of five possible levels of technology. That means its systems can operate without a driver but must be pre-loaded with a detailed map, thus
limiting the areas where the vehicles can operate. Lower levels of self-driving technology have
been available for decades. For example, many Level-3 vehicles allow hands-free highway
driving. Other kinds of self-driving robot vehicles are already widely used in factories warehouses and other tightly controlled settings.
Compared to previous generations where the technology was mainly used on conventional vehicles, the Apollo RT6 was designed specifically with fully autonomous driving in mind.
Baidu is best known for its search engine and online advertising services, but in recent years it has invested heavily in autonomous driving and artificial intelligence technology,
including automated personal assistants and AI chips.
24 .What can we know about Apollo RT6
A .It is free to run in any area. B .It has to operate with a driver.
C .It will be cheaper to operate. D .It can work without a detailed map.
25 .The technology of a fully self-driving vehicle should reach .
A .Level 2 B .Level 3 C .Level 4 D .Level 5

A recent report from the United Nations group UNESCO warns that using technology in
classes may not help as much as many people believe. The report suggests that technology should be used less in schools, and that smartphones should be banned from classrooms.
The goal of the new report was to improve how technology is used in education. It says that technology can be helpful, but it shouldn’t be the focus. “Too much attention on technology in
education usually comes at a high cost,” the report says.
These days, it’s common for students to use computers or tablets (平板电脑). In many places, it’s normal for students to look up information on the internet rather than using books. UNESCO claims that technology changes so fast that it’s hard to study how it really affects
students.
The new report says that many of the studies show that technology helps students come
from rich countries. As classes moved online during the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of
technology in education grew even more quickly. Many students were forced to study at home,
using video calls to communicate with their teachers. But the report points out that around 500
million students were unable to take part in online classes. That’s one example of what UNESCO says is a larger problem — that the advantages of technology aren’t evenly shared. People and
countries with less money are often left out.
UNESCO admits that technology can help in many ways. It can allow students to learn in ways that are more interesting; it can also help teachers explain difficult ideas; it can also help
students who have special needs. But UNESCO says technology can also be very perturbing. One
试卷第 6 页,共 13 页
study showed that when students use phones in class, it can interfere with their learning. Even so, less than 25% of the world’s countries ban phones in schools.
The report suggests that the best way to learn is still to work closely with teachers. Working with other classmates also helps students learn. UNESCO says that most schools should spend
more money on things like books, classrooms, and teachers.
28 .Why does the report suggest using technology less in schools
A .It changes too fast for students to adapt.
B .Most countries cannot afford to invest in it.
C .It makes no difference to improving education.
D .It may not be as effective as initially thought.
29 .What is the “larger problem” that UNESCO refers to in paragraph 4
A .The pandemic has affected most countries.
B .Fewer students keep discipline in online classes.
C .High-tech devices are unevenly distributed.
D .Teachers’ training in technology use is not enough.
30 .Which word can best replace the underlined word “perturbing” in paragraph 5
A .Distracting. B .Confusing. C .Interesting. D .Frightening.
31 .What does UNESCO suggest schools do
A .Explore innovative teaching methods.
B .Increase the expense on teaching staff.
C .Stress the importance of quality education.
D .Update technology and digital resources in time.
D
There is hope for our planet’s survival. Innovative(创新的) products are being designed to reduce our reliance on plastic, single-use plastic in particular.
One such innovation comes from international design firm Carlo Ratti Associati with its
“Feel the Peel” machine, an experimental rounded juice bar that not only makes freshly squeezed orange juice, but also 3D prints a recyclable bioplastic cup with the leftover orange peels(皮).
Designed with global energy company Eni, the juicer is 10 feet tall and topped with a
试卷第 7 页,共 13 页
massive dome(圆顶), feeding the juicer with oranges on demand. The dome is made up of round tracks that hold up to 1,500 oranges. A 3D printers is set up in the base of the machine.
The machine works like magic. When an order is placed, the oranges slide down the tracks to a squeezer, and the juice is then deposited into an “orange peel” bioplastic cup, ready to enjoy. Meanwhile, the freshly squeezed peels fall down a tube and accumulate at the bottom of the
machine where they are dried, milled(研磨) and mixed with Polylactic Acid, creating a bioplastic material. The bioplastic is then heated and melted into a filament and the 3D printer then heated and melted into a filament and the 3D printer then creates recyclable bioplastic cups, ready to be filled with freshly squeezed juice.
How cool that is! It seems that Carlo Ratti Associati and Eni have plans to take Feel the Peel beyond just orange juice.
“The principle of circularity is a must for today’s objects.” Says Carlo Ratti. “Working with Eni, we tried to show circularity in a very tangible way, by developing a machine that helps us to understand how oranges can be well used beyond their juice. The next improvement of Feel the
Peel might include new functions, such as printing fabric clothing from orange peels.
32 .How is the innovative orange juicer different from the traditional ones
A .It is more fashionable.
B .It can produce more juice.
C .It can make bioplastic cups as well as juice.
D .It can hold more oranges.
33 .What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A .How the orange juicer works.
B .What the orange juicer looks like.
C .Why the orange juicer operates well.
D .The importance of the principle of circularity.
34 .What can we infer from the text
A .The dome is used to shelter the orange juicer.
B .Orange peels will be probably made into clothes in the future.
C .The plastic cups made from orange peels is unrecyclable.
D .The designed orange juicer has been on sale in the market.

SHOULD WE FIGHT NEW TECHNOLOGY
This morning, I saw the shocking headline: “Passenger Dies When Car Crashes in
Driverless Mode”. In the article, various people said that the public should oppose the idea of
developing driverless cars. They said that some advances in technology were unnecessary and
could even be dangerous. Hence, we should cease accepting technology just because it is new. The newspaper reported that the car company had already apologized for the accident, but the families of the deceased said it was not enough. Nevertheless, the company still claimed that most people
would be travelling in driverless cars one day soon.
On the one hand, there are many different groups of people around the world who live
happily in the absence of new technology. Probably the most well-known are the Amish, a group of Christians living in rural America. They do not own or drive cars, watch TV, or use the
Internet. They have lived mainly as farmers since the 18th century and they will probably be
living the same way in the distant future. They advocate a simple life with an emphasis on hard
work, family, and community. They think that is better than caring about luxuries or following the lives of the rich and famous. It could even be argued that the Amish’s quality of life is better since

many difficult jobs like analyzing data and translating documents. They make fewer mistakes than humans and they don’t get tired.
W: What dangerous jobs can robots do
M: Robots can work in the areas that cannot be reached by humans. For example, in Japan, robots have already been used in rescue work. Robots can even go in space to do scientific work.
W: What if we are completely replaced by robots

Hello, everyone. Maybe some of you have read in the newspaper about a new robot. It is reported that in Kyoto a supermarket has tried to employ robots to help elderly shoppers. The robots are 120 centimeters tall and 40 centimeters wide. Only about 20 senior shoppers in the supermarket would get a chance to use them through March. All they need to do is put their
shopping lists into a special machine at home, and then the machine sends the lists to the
supermarket. When they arrive at the supermarket, the robots greet them at the entrance. While
