Clean Energy: The Future Is Here
Nearly a century ago, Thomas Edison envisioned using the sun’s boundless energy. Today, that vision is a reality. “Clean energy” covers various technologies — here are five ways to use
virtually limitless power sources:
CLEAN ENERGY
SOLARSolar panels have become less expensive and more efficient in recent years. That’s making it more competitive with other technologies and driving a rapid growth WINDWind machines produce the lowest-priced renewable energy. In places with enough wind, it can be cost-competiti ve without government allowance, and it may BIOMASSBi omass (生物 质) energy originates from living or recently living organisms— everything from forest residue to algae and switchgrass. GEOTHERMAL Geothermal (地热) energy taps into the internal heat of the earth — from hot water just below the ground to steam produced much further down. Technological innovations and new financing methods are making renewable energy more accessible than ever before. As a result, these energy sources are expected to account for half of our global energy mix by 2030. Here are the details:
Renewable Energy Generation: 2012 vs. 2030/ TWh
“I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that,” Thomas Edison said in 1931. His
far-sighted idea has become real progress—the world’s shift to renewable energy is growing fast. This helps the world meet its increasing power needs in a more sustainable way, and build a
cleaner, healthier, and brighter future.
1 .Which type of clean energy has the lowest cost
A .Solar. B .Waterpower. C .Wind. D .Geothermal.
2 .How much is the expected growth in biomass generation from 2012 to 2030
A .3,100 TWh. B .3,646 TWh. C .4,000 TWh. D .4,900 TWh.
3 .Why does the author quote Edison
A .To warn of the energy shortage. B .To reflect the crucial role of coal at his time.
C .To honor his great contributions. D .To appreciate the evolution of energy.

If you love art, “Picasso” speaks a lot. Pablo Picasso (1881—1973) wasn’t just an
exceptional painter; he was a sculptor, printmaker, stage designer ... Due to his amazing skills, he
试卷第 5 页,共 15 页
became an outstanding figure in all of these fields.
One of Picasso’s amazing feats was representing realism and contemporary culture through art. He, along with Georges Braque, gave birth to cubism— one of the most revolutionary
movements in modern art, paving the way for nearly all abstract art that followed. His exploration of art did not stop with cubism as he wanted to make something more inspirational, and thus came into existence—Collage (拼贴画). Collage was a different kind of art in which Picasso
incorporated several signs and used some metaphorical terms to give them a concrete meaning.
Picasso received training from his father, who was an art teacher and a painter. At the age of 16, Picasso had already lost a liking to traditional art techniques and desired to introduce
something new. His search began when he joined the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. He experimented with different styles of art and explored grounds like still life, portraits,
mythological scenes, and landscapes. His work was daring and he always preferred to use innovative perspective.
Picasso also produced sculptures and took an interest in theatrical productions. His most remarkable and politically charged work was “Guernica”, produced in response to the Spanish
Civil War when the town suffered a terrifying bombing. To this day, it is a classic representation of war horrors.
On April 8, 1973, Picasso passed away in the city of Mougins, France, leaving behind a treasure of art that is celebrated still to this day.
4 .What does the underlined word “feats” in paragraph 2 mean
A .Dreams. B .Achievements. C .Discoveries. D .Inspirations.
5 .What was the driving force behind Picasso’s artistic exploration
A .His training in the Academy. B .His pursuit of innovation.
C .His admiration for his father. D .His loyalty to traditional art.
6 .What was Picasso’s intention in creating “Guernica”
A .To show his artistic talent. B .To pour out personal emotional pain.
C .To record a historical event. D .To speak out against wartime violence.
7 .Which of the following best describes Picasso
A .Talented and consistent. B .Creative and ambitious.
C .Pioneering and all-round. D .Successful and realistic.

Penguins are some of the world’s most familiar and beloved birds, but southern
rockhoppers are the tough guys ofthe penguin world. Their fondness for colonies (聚居地) high over thousands of feet separates them from the other penguin species that prefer soft, level ground in the Falklands.
One evening, I struggle to keep up with some scientists as they march through thick grass in the Falklands. They are looking for rockhoppers that have pencil-case-size black boxes taped to
their backs and collecting those boxes, which contain GPS data loggers (记录仪). Some also track diving and heart-rate information. Later, in the scientists’ field station, we gather around a
computer screen, analyzing the collected data, which will give us a critical read on ocean conditions, revealed by the birds’ responses.
With a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, the species can withstand the occasional disaster and
rebuild their population over time. But as colonies damaged by human activities struggle to
recover, a string of disasters has knocked them down. Despite their bravery, rockhoppers are
highly sensitive. Research by these scientists shows that even a small increase in sea temperature can affect the birds’ food supply and lower chick and adult survival. Besides, changing weather is causing unseasonably intense storms, killing chicks who haven’t yet grown their thick, waterproof feathers.
However, moving to cooler water isn’t an option. The constant winds there would push the little penguins into the icy coasts of Antarctica, and there’s no land where they could build new
colonies. These scientists are trying to re-establish the native grass. “It may be impossible to stop the changes sweeping their ocean habitats,” Quillfeldt, a seabird ecologist says. “But to help them on land, at the breeding (繁殖) sites, is something we can actually do.”
Thinking of the young rockhopper leaping over a fearful gap, I ask the scientists: Can
rockhoppers’ courage be an advantage for their survival Quillfeldt feels it may. Curiosity and bravery can encourage seabirds to find ways to adapt. Don’t forget they’ve got attitude.
8 .What is the function of the black boxes on the rockhoppers’ backs
A .To locate GPS data loggers. B .To distinguish birds’ responses.
C .To analyze the survival rate. D .To record data about ocean conditions.
试卷第 7 页,共 15 页
9 .What may bring a challenge to rockhoppers’ population
A .Their lengthy lifespan. B .Their fondness for high rocks.
C .Their thick waterproof feathers. D .Their sensitivity to the climate change.
10 .What could be a practical way to help rockhoppers according to paragraph 4
A .Establish new colonies. B .Improve the breeding sites.
C .Stop the environmental changes. D .Move to the coasts of Antarctica.
11 .What is the author’s attitude toward rockhoppers’ future
A .Hopeful. B .Reserved. C .Dismissive. D .Doubtful.

Under the autumn sky of Tuohula Xinjiang, golden rice stalks sway gently. Ayinigeer Tuoheti, a 28-year-old computer science graduate, wanders through the fields, checking the ripening crop. Her digital skills are bridging the divide between her family’s traditional rice business and the modern age.
In 2020, Ayinigeer returned home to assist her father — who’d built a 1994 rice processing plant but his health weakened and struggled with business communications. She found the
family’s work stuck in the backward reality: the ledger book, handwritten records, and carbon paper. She resolved to transform the business.
First, she turned their small farmer cooperative into a company. Exploiting her computer
background, she automated invoicing, inventory, and order processing, shifting all work to
electronic systems. To secure high-quality rice, she partnered with over 120 households, who
transferred the management rights of their land to her company. Her company provided seeds and training, bought harvests above market prices, and shared profits-boosting farmers’ incomes while ensuring premium raw materials.
In 2023, she tried livestreaming on electronic sales platform. With a smartphone, she
presented viewers with local rice fields, processing plants, and family meals with their local
products. The initial phase was tough, but local governments trained her in livestreaming skills. Their authenticity won audience: daily orders grew from 12 to hundreds. Now, From March to September this year, they had 180,000 orders through livestreaming, with 7,000 on a single
day-that’s nearly 35 tons of rice moving directly from their fields to households across China.
试卷第 8 页,共 15 页
The numbers tell the resulting. In early 2024, influencers from across China were reaching out to us, she said. “They wanted to partner with us because our product had proven appealing.”
The phenomenal success ofAyinigeer’s livestreaming, however, stems not just from
technology, but Tuohula’s rice quality: Wensu’s temperature swings, selenium-rich soil, and
Tianshan snowmelt water make it sweet and aromatic. Local farming is 98% mechanized, and a 1998 seed base (investing 1 million yuan yearly) develops high-quality varieties-including the seeds Ayinigeer uses.
12 .What did Ayinigeer do first to improve the family business
A .She started livestreaming on Douyin.
B .She modernized the operation system.
C .She partnered with over 120 local households.
D .She inspected crops personally.
13 .Why could Ayinigeer’s sales model attract viewers
A .She offered very low rice prices.
B .She used professional broadcasting equipment.
C .She presented authentic rice production scenes.
D .She accumulated many followers before livestreaming.
14 .What can we infer about Tuohula’s rice
A .It is popular all over the world.
B .Local natural conditions contributed to its popularity.
C .It is only sold in southern Xinjiang.
D .Its production cost is much lower than average.
15 .Which is the most appropriate title
A .Digital Skills Revive Hometown Rice B .Livestreaming Makes Rice Famous
C .Graduate Succeeds in Rice Business D .Quality Rice Boosts Agriculture

Maintaining Rhythm and Happiness in Final Year
试卷第 9 页,共 15 页
For students navigating the intensity of final-year studies, happiness is a luxury that you cannot afford during this critical period. However, happiness is not the absence of stress, but a sense of controlled progress and inner peace cultivated within the demanding environment.
16
Why then should you prioritize the cultivation of happiness In an age of prevalent stress, actively safeguarding this happiness is essential. Chronic anxiety and burnout impair cognitive function, and even hurt your academic performance. Research confirms that greater happiness is associated with better physical health, stronger resilience, and more fulfilling relationships.
17
To achieve this, begin with intentionally designing your daily rhythm. This means
scheduling not only study sessions but also breaks. 18 These acts are not time wasted; they are strategic resets that prevent mental fatigue and sustain concentration. For instance, a
ten-minute walk after a 90-minute study block can significantly clear mental fog, thus improving efficiency in the next session.
19 While academic goals are vital, defining your self-worth only by test scores is a fragile foundation. Instead, consciously connecting your daily effort to larger personal growth
such as problem-solving skills fosters a better sense of accomplishment. This shift from a purely outcome-based to a process-oriented perspective transforms the journey into a source of
satisfaction.
In fact, maintaining your own rhythm in senior year is an act of wise self-management. It involves protecting your mental space through structured balance and reframing the purpose of your effort. 20 Then, you are empowered to perform at your best when it matters most.
A .Perspective is key, too.
B .Self-worth also matters.
C .You’ll find all your stress disappear without a trace.
D .It is a feeling of moving forward at a sustainable pace.
E .They can be brief walks, mindful breathing, or a favorite hobby.
F .Thus, investing in happiness can energize you in all aspects of our lives.
G .By doing so, you’ll harvest both academic knowledge and sustainable happiness.

Last autumn, a small conflict between my family and our new neighbors almost broke out, but it eventually turned into a precious lesson about understanding and friendship.
Mr and Mrs Lee moved into the apartment next door in early September. At first, we
exchanged polite smiles when passing by, but things changed soon. My younger brother, Tom,

was crazy about playing the drums (鼓). He’d been dreaming of joining the school’s music band and practiced hard every evening right after finishing his homework, usually from 5 pm to 6 pm. He said the loud beats helped him release stress from a day of studying. However, our thin
apartment walls turned his practice sessions into a headache for the Lees.
Mrs Lee worked night shifts at the hospital. She relied on the afternoons to sleep and
recharge for the next shift, but the drumbeats would wake her up repeatedly. Mr Lee, a freelance writer who worked from home, needed complete quiet to focus on his stories, but the constant
“boom-boom-boom” would break his train of thought. We didn’t notice their trouble at first; Tom always closed his bedroom door when practicing, and we thought that would reduce the noise
enough.
One Tuesday evening, Mr Lee knocked on our door. His face looked serious, and I could tell he was upset. “I’m sorry to bother you,” he said, “but the drum noise has been making it hard for my wife to rest and me to work. We’ve tried closing the windows, but it still doesn’t help
much.” My parents apologized immediately, but Tom felt wronged. He argued that he only
practiced for an hour each day and had nowhere else to play. For the next few days, the
atmosphere between our two families became awkward. We stopped greeting each other, and the walls seemed to grow thicker.
My mom decided to fix the situation. She baked a plate of chocolate cookies — Mrs Lee’s favorite, which we learned from a casual chat before — and asked Tom and me to take them to the Lees.

When we arrived, Mrs Lee opened the door with a surprised look. She hesitated for a
moment before inviting us in. My mom smiled warmly and handed her the cookies, explaining
that we wanted to apologize for the trouble Tom had caused. Mrs Lee’s face softened, and she
thanked us sincerely. We sat down and had a heart-to-heart talk. She shared how difficult it was for her to sleep during the day and for Mr Lee to concentrate on his writing. Tom listened quietly, realizing the impact of his drumming on them.
After a discussion, they agreed on a new schedule for drum practice. Tom would now
practice from 7 pm to 8 pm, when Mrs Lee was at work and Mr Lee could take a break. He also
promised to use drum mufflers to reduce the noise. In return, the Lees invited us to a home-cooked dinner the following weekend. As we left their apartment, the tension that had hung over us for
days finally lifted. This small conflict had taught us the importance of understanding and compromise, turning neighbors into friends.
