explained Margee Kerr,one of the study's authors().It made the volunteers feel confident so that
they could handle (a scary situation in real life.It helped them deal with the fears we all have.
More than that,fear helps create strong social bonds().In scary situations,people are more
likely to feel unsure about the future.As a result,they stick together and depend more on each other for
support.Scientists call this a"tend-and-befriend system".It means in scary situations,people help their
friends and make new ones,which makes them feel better and more protected.A good example of this is
soldiers(±兵)who fight side by side in war(战争).
