一、动词不定式做状语
1.动词不定式做状语表示目的
Her mother plans to fly to Beijing at least four times a year to/in order to/so as to visit her.
她母亲计划每年至少四次飞到北京去看她。
2.动词不定式做状语表示结果
What have I done to offend you
我做什么冒犯你了
Jane hurried back only to find that her mother had left.
简匆忙赶回来却发现她的母亲已经离开了。

二、动词不定式做定语
用动词不定式做定语的几种情况:
1.动词不定式表示将来
I have a lot of homework to do today.
今天我有很多作业要做。
The car to be bought is for his sister.
要买的这辆车是给他姐姐的。
2.用来修饰被序数词、最高级或no,all,any等限定的中心词,且与中心词为逻辑上的主动关系。
He was the best man to do the job.
他是做这份工作的最佳人选。
3.有些名词的同根词常与不定式连用,因此它们也常跟不定式做定语,如promise,plan,offer,failure,ability,chance,warning等。
I don’t trust his promise to come for a visit.
我不相信他来访的承诺。
He said she had no plans to go there.
他说她没有去那里的计划。

做定语的不定式如果是不及物动词或动词不定式所修饰的名词是动词不定式动作的地点、工具等,动词不定式后须有相应的介词。
There is nothing to worry about.
没什么可担忧的。
