I didn’t always drink a lot of caffeine (咖啡因). I hardly enjoyed the taste of coffee until my mid-20s.
But once I started working long hours from home, I soon needed a third cup of coffee just to feel the energy
one used to give me. But by the end of the day, my heart felt like it was beating faster, I couldn’t relax, and
it was difficult to fall asleep.

So I decided to remove all caffeinated drinks from my life for two weeks, no matter how awful it felt. I
started with three cups of lemon water in the morning, had a decaffeinated soda in the afternoon, and ended
with a cup of tea. Though the effects, at first, were hardly the same, the act of getting up from my desk to
refill my cup made the day a bit more bearable.
Dr. Aragona also told me that kicking all the caffeine could help me find a more natural body rhythm
(节律) and reduce my anxiety levels. But along the way, he said I’d likely be sleepy. “Of course, you will
still get tired, but this is natural, because all caffeine is doing is saving that for later — and likely to a
greater degree after you force your body into overdrive,” he added.
The first three days were awful. I felt extremely tired, had really terrible headaches, and could barely
make it to 10 a.m. without wanting to take a nap. After about a week, I felt like a different person. By the
end of the two weeks, I felt a lot more in control of my mind, body, and life. And I didn’t miss caffeine as
much as I thought I would.

The sharp fin. The rows upon rows of sharp teeth. The large black eyes. The sharks you see on
television in Jaws or Discovery’s “Shark Week” are not the friendliest-looking creatures. They aren’t
exactly an animal you want to find near you while swimming in the ocean. Despite their portrayals (刻
画) in movies and popular culture, sharks are complex, misunderstood creatures that are weaker than
they appear.
One very common misunderstanding about sharks is their desire to hunt humans. When sharks
attack humans, it is because they mistake a human for their normal prey (猎物), seals or dolphins.
They don’t seek out humans on purpose. Statistically, you are more likely to be struck by lightning
than be bitten by a shark.
Sharks are very important to the ocean as they are at the top of the food chain. Some sharks even
control the balance of an ecosystem through fear alone. Tiger sharks in Australia help protect seagrass
meadows from turtles (海龟). Turtles eat the seagrass and without the sharks, they will destroy these
meadows. When tiger sharks are present, though, the turtles are scared away, which controls their
appetite for seagrass and promotes its growth.
Though sharks have a reputation (名声) for being very scary to humans, the sad truth is that they
should be scared of humans. The number of sharks in the ocean is steadily dropping. There are a few

reasons for this. For one, they mature quite slowly, over several years, and produce relatively few
young. For another, overfishing of sharks is happening because more and more people want their fins.
About 100 million sharks are killed every year according to National Geographic. Shark fin is a way

there is no evidence or proof that they actually do. Both of these ideas are putting pressure on the
number of sharks in the ocean.

Catalina Coppel, 10, is aching to get a cell phone so she can be a social media butterfly. She says she’s
the only person in her class without one and is looking forward to taking pictures to post on all the social
media apps. Both her parents are worried. “If I can postpone it a little bit, it’ll be better for her mental
health,” said her mother, Rosantina.
Research indicates there’s an increase in anxiety, depression and suicide in youth that is linked with
increased social media use, according to Jessica Heldman at the University of San Diego School of Law
Children’s Advocacy Institute. The organization is sponsoring (赞助) Assembly Bill 2408, which defines
addiction as a mental health issue that may need treatment or intervention and aims to better hold social
media companies responsible. It would allow parents to sue (起诉) social media companies like Instagram,
TikTok and Snapchat for addicting children to their apps.
Suing social media companies is not new. The mother of Selena Rodriguez is among parents who’ve
filed suit against Instagram and Snapchat. She claims her 11-year-old daughter died by suicide after
developing an addiction to the social media apps.
City Heights parent Shaun Jones calls social media the “biggest drug known to man these days.” He
not only sees the allure (诱惑) cell phones and apps have for his 8-year-old nephew, but his 2-year-old
daughter as well. He was among the minority of people we talked to supporting a parent’s right to sue.
“She’s only one click away from seeing something she should never see in her life,” said Jones.
San Diego High sophomore Clark Tansey says he uses social media for messaging but understands its
draw. “It’s very easy to get too far in and lose consciousness,” he said.
Tansey’s father was among the parents concerned about a litigious (好诉讼的) society, citing the
Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial, saying it’s silly. They say parents should ultimately police their kids on
social media, not the court of law.

English compositions.
It’s definitely a brilliant idea to adopt AI in grading, as it is quite efficient at identifying errors in our
writing. That said, I’m afraid AI can’t fully grasp the original ideas and complex emotions we intend to
convey in writing. Consequently, it may result in a lack of constructive and personalized feedback as well as
a rigid writing style among students over time. From my perspective, it’s both practical and effective to
combine AI with manual correction, with AI dealing with basic errors while you focus on our content and
ideas. I believe such an integrated approach will surely help us make greater progress.

first study from the University of South Australia shows that increased physical activities during the day
improve sleep quality and reduce tiredness, emphasizing the importance of exercise for a good night’s rest.
The study found that children and adults with higher levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity have
less troubled sleep and better sleep quality. In general, adults are thought to need at least eight hours of sleep
a night, but a recent survey found that, on workdays, only 21% of them really get a full eight hours of sleep.
For teenagers, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours per night. However, 27% of people throughout
the world have sleep problems. Now there are over 80 kinds of sleep disorders, and most people know little
about their danger. So, for our good life and work, it’s necessary for us to realize the importance of sleep and
try to have a good sleep.
