Many people keep animals as pets, and these animal friends bring us
joy, comfort, and even help.Let’s learn about three special animal friends.
  Lucky, the Guide Dog
A
Lucky is a guide dog for a blind girl named Mia.Every morning, Lucky
helps Mia walk to school safely. He stops at crossroads to wait for the green
light and avoids obstacles like rocks or bikes. When Mia drops her books,
Lucky picks them up with his mouth.“Lucky is not just a dog,” Mia
says.“He is my eyes and my best friend.”
  Momo, the Therapy Cat
Momo lives in a nursing home. She often sits on the laps(大腿) of old
people who feel lonely. When Mr Lee, an 85-year-old man, is sad,

smile. The nurses say Momo helps the old people feel less lonely.“She’s like a
little angel,” one nurse says.

police searched for him all night but found nothing. Then they called Max and
his trainer.Max smelled the boy’s jacket and ran into the forest. After two
hours, he barked loudly—he found the boy! The boy was scared but safe.

B
( B )
Animals are our valuable friends, but many are in danger. From tiny
bees to large tigers, their survival is linked to ours. Here are simple ways we
can protect them.
First, protect their homes. Many animals lose their living places because
forests are cut down or rivers are polluted. We can help by not littering in
parks or near water—trash can hurt animals that mistake it for food.Planting
flowers in gardens also gives small animals like butterflies a safe space to live.
B
Second, be kind to street animals.Stray dogs or cats often struggle to
find food.Instead of chasing them, we can leave clean water and safe food in
quiet corners.Remember, never give them chocolate or onions—these are
poisonous to many animals.
Third, say no to products made from wild animals.Items like fur
coats, ivory(象牙) jewelry, or medicine made from animal parts
encourage hunting.Choosing products from plants or recycled materials helps
stop this harm.
Finally, learn and teach others.Read books or watch documentaries
about endangered animals.Share what you learn with friends and family—
spreading knowledge is a powerful way to make a difference.
Animals can’t speak for themselves, but we can be their voices.Every
small act of care counts!
( B )6.Why do many animals lose their homes according to the passage?
A. Because they move to new places.
B. Because forests are cut down and rivers are polluted.
C. Because they can’t find enough food.
D. Because other animals attack them.
B
( C )7.What can we do to protect animals’ homes?
A. Litter in parks.
B. Cut down trees for more space.
C. Plant native flowers in gardens.
D. Pollute rivers with waste.
C
( C )8.What should we NOT give to street animals?
A. Clean water.
B. Unseasoned rice.
C. Chocolate.
D. Fresh vegetables.
C
( B )9.Why should we avoid products made from wild animals?
A. Because they are too expensive.
B. Because they encourage hunting.
C. Because they are not beautiful.
D. Because they are hard to find.
B
( A )10. How can spreading knowledge help protect animals?

Views on keeping pets
Different people have different views on keeping pets.

Some people are for keeping pets. They think pets, like dogs or cats, can be
good companions, especially for the elderly or lonely people, bringing joy
and reducing loneliness.Pets also teach responsibility, especially to children.

Others oppose it.They argue pets may cause healthy problems and noise, which can disturb neighbours.Additionally, taking care of pets requires time, money, and energy, which some people can’t afford.
In my opinion, keeping pets is acceptable as long as owners take good care of them and don’t affect others.Pets can bring warmth, but responsibility
comes first.
