I asked my dad if I had ever made him cry before because I couldn’t remember ever seeing him cry.
“There was once,” he said.
He told me that when I was one year old, he put a pen, a piece of paper money and a toy in front of me. He wanted to see which one I would pick. It’s a tradition that a lot of Chinese people do when their kids are one year old. According to this tradition, it shows what the kid will value most when he or she grows up. For example, if the kid takes the pen, it means he or she will be an intelligent person in the future. If the kid takes the money, it means he or she will value money more than others and become rich. If the kid takes the toy, it means he or she will like fun things and play a lot.
My father was doing it because he was curious (好奇的). It was interesting for him to see which one I would pick.
He said that I just sat there and stared at the three things. He sat across from me and waited to see the result.
According to him, I moved toward him and he held his breath. Then I pushed everything aside and went right into his arms. Tears (眼泪) came to his eyes. He didn’t realize that he was one of the choices.
And that was the first and only time I made him cry.

When I was a little girl, my mum used to say I would read the back of a medicine bottle if I didn’t have a book in my hand. It was true, and even now that reading habit has been with me. I’m talking about real books, books made out of paper, books that you can hold in your hand, to read, at the table, on the subway or my favorite place to read-in the bath.
But the number of people reading books is dropping. A recent survey tells us that Chinese people only read 4.77 printed books a year on average and in the US, 25 percent of the population say they didn’t read a book last year! So what’s stopping people from reading
The answer of course is the huge influence that technology has had on our life. Why read a book when you can watch a movie or TV play on your smart phones or iPads For younger people, books may not be as exciting as online games. With stories you have to work at it, closely follow the turns of the plot. There are no shortcuts with a book. You have to turn page after page.
But you can still get lost in a book. We all have this thing called imagination. It’s much more powerful than any computer; in fact, it’s worth remembering that any online game was first written in words as a story by its writer.
So we need to read-if we do not read, it will be hard for us to improve our ability to think widely. Reading is a process in which we need to compare and connect other things we have read and seen in the past. If you do not read, this will not only influence your study, but also your social life in the future.
So why not follow me from now on Run a hot bath, or find a comfortable chair and read a good book for a few hours-there are quite many, for free, in your local library.

35.In the last paragraph, the writer mainly suggests that we should ________.

We usually learn new things for amusement and professional development. No matter what the purpose of learning is, you should take effort to learn something new every day. Only a few of us are lifelong learners, but most people are busy with their habitual everyday routines (日常工作) and activities. However, learning something new daily offers great benefits (好处) and possibilities. You can find learning chances everywhere these days, so incorporate (吸收) a habit of learning something new into your daily routine and improve your life with fresh ideas, new people and inspiration.
New information promotes (促进) self-improvement and personal growth. Successful people say that personal growth is the key to their achievements; that’s why they are never satisfied with what they’ve already learned. When we learn something new, we get new experience and skills. It means we deepen our understanding of the world and unleash (释放) our hidden talent. Moreover, learning new things will make you proud and increase your self-confidence.
I was always too busy to add an additional point to my daily schedule. That’s the main reason why I never had enough time to read and learn new things for my hobbies. However, I’ve learned that having one more task on my list-to-do is the best way to structure my daily routine and improve my time perception (观念). I’ve realized I should manage time wisely. Stop complaining that you don’t have free time to read. Learn to use your time more efficiently so that you can do things you want to do.
I realize that I’ve met most of my friends while learning new things and getting new experiences. When you join an organization or a club, you are surrounded with like-minded people and just uncommon characters. Chances are you’ll find close friends among them.
Develop a habit of learning something new each day and you’ll be sorry you didn’t. It can improved the quality of your life and helped you both professionally and personally. Do you think learning something new daily is important

Keep running or doing yoga
It seems to be a challenge to afford a health center costing over 10,000 yuan a year. But you can buy a pair of sports shoes or a yoga mat instead. Running in a park or doing yoga at home using free online resources is really a kind of quality (质量) life. 42

Perseverance Leads to Success
Last year, I struggled with English speaking and often failed in oral tests. I wanted to give up, but my teacher told me to keep practicing. I read English aloud for 30 minutes every morning and talked with my desk mate in English after class. After months, I finally got an A in the oral exam.
Perseverance means not giving up when facing difficulties. It helps us turn impossible things into possible.
My advice is to set small goals and stick to them. Even small progress can build confidence. Remember: no pain, no gain.
