Because of a terrible illness, 9-year-old Feng Jing once had to stay in a hospital in Shenzhen for months. Lu Guowei is shy and has problems speaking comfortably with strangers. “He is 22 years old but probably only has the intelligence(智力) of an 11-year-old child,” said Lu Guoqiang, his elder brother,in 2023.

According to recent research in biology, chimpanzees(黑猩猩) in the wild are thought to choose certain plants and use them as medicines when they are not feeling well. After studying how they eat the leaves of certain trees, two scientists, Paul Newton and Toshisuda Nashida, said that there are striking(显著的) similarities between how these animals eat these plants and how humans take their medicines.
Until recently, only humans were believed to be able to make smart decisions when it came to curing illness. But that was before the two scientists carried out their research. What was surpris ng was the way Hugo ate the leaves. This is exactly how humans take medicine! What was even more surprising for the scientists was that the very same plant that the chimpanzee chose is known to be used by local people as a medicine! Newton and Nashida were also surprised to find that when chimpanzees take this medicine, they only do so in the morning.
The behaviour of these chimpanzees shows that they have developed amazing abilities to care for their own health — without any doctor having told them what medicine to take!
