done 一般过去时 was/were done现在进行时 am/is/are being done 过去进行时 was/were being done现在完成时 have/has been done 过去完成时 had been done一般将来时 will/shall be done 过去将来时 would/should be done2. 4.使用被动语态时应注意的问题(1)常见的不能用于被动语态的动词(短语):appear、become、belong、consist、disappear、come true、happen、take place、occur、last、break out、come out、come up、lose heart、run out等。 INCLUDEPICTURE "即时测试LLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../../../徐/英语外研选择性必修4/即时测试LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT单句语法填空/句式转换(1)(2024·全国甲卷)What should be done (do) with such He was worried that I had no longer become fun to train with and that I was in danger of being left with only a world championship medal and no one to share it with.I could have become angry or defensive. Don't they know how hard it is to be at the top in sport Don't they know what it takes to get there However, deep down I knew elements of what he was saying were right. I was always tired and every workout had a mental intensity that seemed too much for most to handle. I was pushing the limits and extremes beyond what most thought were healthy. These are the fears I face as a professional athlete on a day-to-day basis. Who am I doing this for How much is too much Why am I doing this How can I be so selfish What are the sacrifices for I think of countless birthday parties and nights out I have missed, ruining a family holiday in France because of the endless search for a swimming pool to train in, almost missing my brother's wedding because I was too busy hiring a car in downtown Johannesburg and driving through the “no-go” areas in order to do a group ride with the local triathletes. The list is endless. It boils down to this: I was born with an enormous amount of drive and determination. From a small girl, I would stay in at lunch time just to get ahead on class work rather than go out and play; I would get the bus on my own at ten years old and go to swim 100 lengths of the pool while other kids played pool games; I was the only girl in a rugby club of 250 boys. I have always lived my life to extremes. Call it unhealthy if you want, but that is the way I roll, no matter what it is I'm applying myself to.1.What is the main idea of the second paragraph A.The author got angry at her friend's words.B.The author realized her friend was partly right.C.The author explained how hard it is to be a top athlete.D.The author defended her actions as a professional athlete.2.Why did the author ruin a family holiday in France A.She forgot about it.B.She was injured and couldn't attend.C.She was too busy training.D.She didn't want to go.3.What did the author do when she was a small girl A.She played pool games with other kids.B.She went out and played at lunch time.C.She stayed in at lunch time to do class work.D.She joined a rugby club with only girls.4.What can we infer from the passage about the author A.She regrets being an Olympic athlete.B.She is very determined and driven.C.She doesn't care about her family.D.She finds training easy. 阅读理解A(2024·泰安高二检测)Some years ago I was offered a writing task that would require three months of travel through Europe.I had been abroad a couple of times, but I could hardly claim to know my way around the continent (大陆).Moreover, my knowledge of foreign languages was limited to a little college French.I hesitated. How would I, unable to speak the language, totally unfamiliar with local geography or transportation systems, set up interviews and do research It seemed impossible, and with much regret I sat down to write a letter begging off.Halfway through, a thought ran through my mind: You can't learn if you don't try.So I accepted it.There were some bad moments. But by the time I had finished the trip I was an experienced traveler. And ever since, I have never hesitated to head for even the most remote of places, without guides or even advanced bookings, confident that somehow I will manage. The point is that the new, the different, is almost by definition scary. But each time you try something, you learn, and as the learning gathers, the world opens to you.I've learned to ski at 40, and flown up the Rhine River in a balloon. And I know I'll go on doing such things. It's not because I'm braver or more daring than others.I'm not.But I'll accept anxiety as another name for challenge and I believe I can achieve wonders.【解题导语】 schadenfreude(幸灾乐祸)—having joy from the suffering of others.People often act as if joy is dependent on achieving material gain.Seeing people that seem to “have it all” suffer (going through divorce, mental illness, etc.) momentarily destroys that thought. And then people can think,“Perhaps it's OK that I don't have my own television show, and own four large houses.” Let's chat a bit more about schadenfreude and related concepts. If you've been alive a couple of decades, you've certainly seen plenty of examples showing that money does not bring happiness. But what brings happiness One of the keys involves learning to fully attend to and enjoy the present moment—not just learning this as information, but, through practice, developing the skill of living mindfully in this moment.Other keys to happiness involve developing the skill of compassion (同情) and loving kindness. This may seem strange to readers: developing a skill of compassion Don't you just have or not have compassion There are some types of meditation (冥想) that are designed to develop compassion and loving kindness. The four related qualities developed by these types of meditation practices are termed: loving kindness, calmness, compassion, and sympathetic joy.Sympathetic joy is the exact opposite of schadenfreude—with sympathetic joy,we get joy from the joy of others.Think of a close family member doing well and notice the joy you feel—that is sympathetic joy.To develop more sympathetic joy, when something good happens to another person, say to yourself (with as much meaning as possible),“I'm happy for you.May your good fortune continue.May your good fortune grow.”When a person, celebrity or not,is suffering, you can practice a compassion meditation.Close your eyes and imagine a scene that naturally brings forth sympathy, such as hugging a loved one,or holding a baby. Then imagine saying to the person suffering,“May you be free from suffering,” or “May your suffering ease.”【解题导语】 Amazing! A new scene appeared.Where did it come from Right there, out of nowhere: a magical misty landscape.Fields stretched in silent purple, with rows of tall trees, darkening in the dusk.I turned the car engine off.All was silent in the hot summer air.Beside us, a plum-colored river hardly moved between lines of trees, its dark lazy water reflecting the last light of day.How breathtaking! Where had it been If I had seen even a bit of this beauty while driving along, I could have stopped and taken a look.I had missed it all.We miss a lot, almost everything, in fact, in our world. Our task-focused filters (过滤器) take care of that, selecting only what we need.We need to get to work.Have some lunch. We see what we need to see, often for the purpose of survival.Gregory Bateson, speaking of beauty, said the judgment is selection of a fact.In our daily lives, who or what is doing the selecting Can we make a change? Can we see further 【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。 24.Which of the following might be the destination of the author's driving A.Her own home. If they didn't wait, however, they'd be allowed to eat only the first one. Not surprisingly, once he left the room, many children ate their cookie almost immediately. A few, though, resisted eating the first cookie long enough to receive the second. Mischel termed these children high-delay children.Interestingly, the children who were best able to delay gratification (满足) later did better in school and had fewer behavioural problems than the children who could only resist eating the cookie for a few minutes—and, further, ended up on average with SAT scores that were 210 points higher. As adults, the high-delay children completed college at higher rates than the other children and then went on to earn higher incomes. In contrast, the children who had the most trouble delaying gratification had higher rates of incarceration (监禁) as adults and were more likely to struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. All suggests that the ability to delay gratification—that is, desire control—may be one of the most important skills to learn to have a satisfying and successful life. The question is, how do we learn it The answer may lie in the strategies Mischel's high-delay children used. Rather than resist the urge to eat the cookie, these children distracted themselves from the urge itself. They played with toys in the room, sang songs to themselves, and looked everywhere but at the cookie. In short, they did everything they could to put the cookie out of their minds.【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。 28.What should the children do to get a second cookie A.They should leave later.B.They should wait longer.C.They should arrive earlier.D.They should study harder.B 29.What's the second paragraph mainly about A.How to be high-delay children.B.How high-delay children succeed.C.The advantages of low-delay children.D.The advantages of high-delay children.D 30.Why did Walter Mischel give each of the children a cookie A.To educate them.B.To do a research.C.To entertain them.D.To conduct a questionnaire survey.B 31.What should we do to delay gratification according to the author A.Set another new goal.B.Try to control the desire.C.Give up what you want completely.D.Forget what attracts you temporarily.D DMost of what I really need to know about is how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten.Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school. These are the things I learned: Share everything.Play fair.Don't hit people.Put things back where you found them.Clean up your own mess.Don't take things that aren't yours.Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.Wash your hands before you eat.Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.Live a balanced life.Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some every day.Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.Be aware of wonder.Remember the little seed in the plastic cup.The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why,but we are all like that.Goldfish and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup—they all die.So do we.And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK.Everything you need to know is in there somewhere:The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation, ecology and politics and sane living.Think of what a better world it would be if we all—the whole world—had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap.Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and clean up our own messes. And it is still true,no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world,it is best to hold hands and stick together.【解题导语】 本文是一篇议论文。 32.What didn't the author learn to do while in kindergarten A.Cook cookies and dishes.B.Keep the things he used in place.C.Look out for traffic.D.Make an apology to someone he hurt. 33.What can we infer from the passage about the author A.He must be a success thanks to the good habits.B.He has learned to share everything with others.C.He expects harmony and unity.D.He is at an old age now.C 根据最后一段中的“Think of what a better world it would be...clean up our own messes.” 34.What's the author's purpose in writing this passage A.To inform the readers of what he learned in kindergarten.B.To call on people to hold hands and stick together.C.To show the importance of enlightening (启蒙) education.D.To tell people how to live a successful life.C 解析:写作意图题。 35.In which column of a magazine can you probably find the passage A.Popular Science. 20-year-old sophomore at the University of South Carolina whose parents ran a small restaurant. As he was the only college student in his family, his family tried their best to support him.Baskin always worked as a waiter in the restaurant to lighten his parents' burden. He was so hardworking that many customers praised his excellent service. His parents also appreciated and trusted him a lot.It was a busy night. In the restaurant after a few guests walked in and sat down, they ordered a bottle of wine worth almost $2,000.Having to serve another table, Baskin then asked a workmate to fetch the wine. However, since the employee was new, she accidentally took the wrong bottle of wine.Instead of the wine that was ordered by the customers, she served another wine, which cost about $1,000.As the bottles and names were similar, no one noticed the mistake.Baskin didn't realize the mistake until the customers wanted to order a second bottle after finishing the first one.He checked the order quickly and understood what was wrong. He cleverly suggested they order a different one, without letting them know what had happened, which could give him time to think about how to solve the problem.Everything seemed normal, but Baskin was lost in thought.“What should I do to solve this problem?” he asked himself. If he didn't tell the customers the mistake, he could keep the extra$1,000 secretly. As he was also the cashier of the restaurant, no one would know what happened.$1,000 was the tuition fee for the whole school year and his parents needn't work hard to earn money for him, or to do the right thing. He explained the situation to the customers and apologized sincerely for the error. The customers were surprised at this and said they hadn't noticed the mistake at all.Instead, They spend half of their time dreaming up ways of getting rich and achieving the success they expect, and the rest of their time thinking about all the things they will do once they become rich. But do all millionaires get the sense of success they were looking for after they achieve their goals Some continue to worry about money when they become millionaires—they worked hard to become wealthy, but then they need to continue making money so they don't lose the sense of success they have achieved. However, there are people who have turned their backs on their millions and found other forms of success in their lives. Jason Harley is one example.Sixteen years ago, Jason was a college professor with a huge six-bedroom house and a fortune of two million dollars. Today he lives in a small dormitory room with only second-hand furniture. There are certainly no signs that Jason is a rich and successful man! There is a small garden outside with a few fruit trees, which Jason enjoys taking care of. He also grows some vegetables and a few flowers. He gets his clothes and a lot of other things from charity shops. But Jason appreciates this change. He is pleased to give up the lifestyle of a rich man. He was tired of being regarded as living a successful life, as a person who had everything while many people had nothing. He made the choice to give all his money away. And this, he said, brought him happiness and a sense of success in life.“I don't need a lot of money. I don't want to buy more things. I have enough,” said Jason.“What I want is to live simply and be helpful to others. A few years ago, I was a millionaire, but I knew millions of people died of hunger every year, and there were places with no schools and no teachers. So many people could never go to school. They didn't have the chance to learn and get on in life. This worried me a lot and I felt very guilty being a rich man without doing anything.”1.What does the underlined phrase “turned their backs on” in paragraph 1 probably mean A.Looked for. B.Depended on.C.Given up. D.Applied to.2.What did Jason Harley do sixteen years ago A.He was a professor.B.He was a college student.C.He was a charity worker.D.He was an engineer.3.What is the main idea of paragraph 2 A.Jason Harley is a college professor.B.Jason Harley lives a simple life now.C.Jason Harley has a huge house and a fortune.D.Jason Harley enjoys taking care of fruit trees.4.What can we infer from the passage A.All millionaires are happy after achieving their goals.B.Jason Harley regrets giving away his money.C.Jason Harley donates his money to help those in need.D.Becoming a millionaire is the only way to be successful. 阅读理解A(2024·广东名校高二质检)At noon, I raced breathlessly home, a ten-minute walk from my school. My mother was waiting for me with outstretched arms to have lunch, during which I shared what had happened at school.I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed (排练) my lines so hard with me.But no matter how easily I acted at home, hardly had I stepped on stage when every word escaped me, making me pessimistic. Finally, my teacher asked me to change to a narrator's part. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.I didn't tell my mother what had happened that day.But she sensed my pain.Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.Under the rose vine, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英), as if a painter had crammed our landscape with shades of gold.I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion.“I'm going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling it up by its roots.“From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden.”“But I like dandelions,” I argued.“All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”My mother asked thoughtfully, “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” I nodded, pleased that I had won her over.“And that is true of people, too,” she added.I burst into tears, my heart swelling with a mixture of relief and regret as I told her what had happened.“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said, encouraging me as she did.“The narrator's part is important, too.” Composing myself gradually, I began to accept the narrator's part. Then came the performance day.I was still nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. It was obvious that my mom secretly put the flower there, which magically gave me confidence.【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。 1.Why did the author get changed to the narrator's part A.She was shy.B.She lacked practice.C.She disliked the former role.D.She totally forgot the lines.D 根据第二段中的“But no matter how...every word escaped me, making me pessimistic.” 2.What did her mother do when the author felt upset A.Her mother asked her what had happened patiently.B.Her mother insisted on her practicing the lines.C.Her mother made her realize every role counted.D.Her mother immediately encouraged her to cheer up.C 根据第三段至最后一段内容,尤其是第六段中的“every flower gives pleasure...true of people, too”及最后一段中的“But you will be a beautiful narrator... narrator's part is important, too.” 3.Which of the following can best describe the author's mother A.Sympathetic but strict.B.Understanding and wise.C.Passionate but anxious.D.Curious and easy-going.B 4.What does the passage mainly tell us A.All that glitters is not gold.B.Actions speak louder than words.C.Constant dripping wears away a stone.D.Every individual can make a difference.D BIn today's motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated.Inspirational speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett—“Try again. Fail again.Fail better.” It seems that disappointments are an essential stepping stone to success,a turning point in our life story that will ultimately end in victory. However, psychological research finds most of us struggle to handle failure constructively. In other words,we fail to “fail forward”.We find ways to devalue the task at which we failed, and become less motivated to persevere and reach our goals. This phenomenon is known as the “sour-grape effect”,which was discovered by Professor Hallgeir Sjastad.Sjastad explains that “sour-grape effect” is a self-protective mechanism.“Most of us picture ourselves as competent people,so when external feedback(反馈) suggests otherwise,it poses a serious threat to that self-image,” he says.“The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the external signal,so we can reduce the inconsistency and preserve a positive sense of self.We do this even without noticing.”If you have one bad interview for your dream job,you might convince yourself that you don't really want it at all,and stop applying for similar positions. The same goes if you fail to impress at a sports trial,or if a publisher rejects the first submission of your manuscript (手稿).“We tend to explain away our shortcomings and convince ourselves our ‘Plan C’ is actually our‘Plan A’,” Sjastad says.It doesn't mean we should persevere in goals all the time.It can be healthy to change ambitions if the process is no longer making us happy. But the “sour-grape effect” may lead us to come to this decision prematurely, rather than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve.Failures are unavoidable.By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.【解题导语】 本文是一篇议论文。 5.Why does the author mention the speech of inspirational speakers in paragraph 1 A.To offer an example to handle failure.B.To describe a shallow understanding of failure.C.To introduce a common attitude towards failure.D.To emphasize the importance of experiencing failure.B 6.What can we learn from paragraph 3 about the “sour-grape effect”?A.It protects us from false feedback.B.It pictures us as competitive people.C.It poses a severe threat to self-image.D.It denies negative feedback to ourselves.D 7.What does the underlined word “prematurely” in paragraph 5 mean A.Unhappily. B.Mistakenly.C.Hurriedly. D.Carelessly.C 解析:词义猜测题。根据画线词后的“rather than hanging on a little...might learn and improve”可知,“酸葡萄效应”可能会导致我们过早地做出决定,而不是坚持一下。由此可推知,prematurely与“hanging on a little”意义相反,画线词意为“提前地、过早地”。8.Which statement would the author most probably agree with A.Don't escape when our self-image is broken.B.Don't quit when goals no longer make you happy.C.Never hesitate to replace “Plan A” with “Plan C”.D.Never forget to maintain a positive sense of self. Ⅱ.完形填空(2024·石家庄高二检测)I won the 2012 Boston Marathon, one of the most famous races in the world.Growing up in San Diego,I had never 1 being a runner. When I was seven, my PE teacher told us to run a 2 .At the beginning, I was 3 .However, the teacher encouraged me to have a try.I 4 and got a good place. Then, I 5 running and won races in high school and college. In 2001, my coach told me I had potential to be a marathon runner. That time I believed my coach's words and started 6 .Five years later, I finished third at the 2006 New York marathon. My hard work 7 .But when I told people I was a marathon 8 , they asked,“Did you run Boston Marathon?” So I set my 9 .I first ran Boston Marathon in 2009 and finished fifth.I got why Boston Marathon was such a big 10 .But I didn't give up.After training 11 for a long time, I felt I was 12 .I decided to run Boston Marathon again. Then, the day came. When I was running, I saw the crowds 13 the course almost the whole way.I felt I was surrounded by the love for running. 14 , I made it.Through the race I learned that we can 15 our goals if we try our best.【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。 1.A.missed B.avoidedC.admitted D.imaginedD 解析:根据下文“When I was seven, my PE teacher told us to run...the teacher encouraged me to have a try.” 2.A.school B.companyC.mile D.metreC 3.A.happy B.proudC.interested D.frightenedD 解析:根据下文“However, the teacher encouraged me to have a try.” 4.A.forgot B.agreedC.left D.returnedB 解析:根据下文“got a good place”可知,作者同意(agree)了并得到了一个好名次。5.A.kept B.rememberedC.stopped D.suggestedA 解析:根据下文“won races in high school and college”可知,作者继续(keep)跑步。keep doing sth. 6.A.studying B.listeningC.training D.readingC 解析:根据上文“my coach told me I had potential ... believed my coach's words”可知,作者开始训练(train)。7.A.went on B.paid offC.made up D.passed byB 解析:根据上文“Five years later, I finished third at the 2006 New York marathon.” 8.A.runner B.coachC.judge D.hostA 解析:根据下文“Did you run Boston Marathon?” 9.A.record B.exampleC.goal D.limitC 解析:根据上文“But when... ‘Did you run Boston Marathon?’” 10.A.mistake B.challengeC.surprise D.problemB 解析:根据上文“I first ran Boston Marathon in 2009 and finished fifth.”及下文“But I didn't give up.” 11.A.low B.hardC.easily D.quicklyB 解析:根据上文“But I didn't give up.”及下文“for a long time”可知,作者努力(hard)训练了很长一段时间。12.A.prepared B.confusedC.injured D.tiredA 解析:根据下文“I decided to run Boston Marathon again.” 13.A.teaching B.designingC.changing D.liningD 解析:根据下文“the course almost the whole way”可知,作者几乎一路上都看到人群排成一行(line)。14.A.Generally B.SuddenlyC.Luckily D.HopefullyC 解析:根据下文I made it可知,幸运的是(luckily),作者成功了。15.A.introduce B.describeC.master D.achieveD 解析:根据上文内容及下文“our goals if we try our best”可知,此处指如果尽全力就能实现(achieve)目标。 LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT ),\s\do5())INCLUDEPICTURE "WhileLLLa.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "WhileLLLa.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT1.What is the main idea of ACT Ⅳ, SCENE Ⅱ?A.The Happinesses in the home.B.Tyltyl and Mytyl arrived at the Palace of Happiness.C.Tyltyl and Mytyl have been searching for the Blue Bird.D.Tyltyl's being laughed at.2.How does the Happiness feel when they meet with Tyltyl and Mytyl A.Disappointed. life. But it wasn't through desperation that her circumstances changed, “I didn't get fed up and storm off, nothing like that; it was curiosity about other interests and wanting to experience something new.”Tori left her job and completed an MBA before setting up a move to New York to begin a degree. However, the opportunity of a year open to her between the MBA and the degree came up, and as a keen touring cyclist, Tori realised that a dream adventure was now becoming a possibility: “The ride in Africa had been on my fantasy list.It was a moment when I realised that I could do anything, so I should.”Tori rode across Africa, a 7,500-mile trip that took four months. The whole experience had a life-changing impact.Tori said, “Bicycles provide a literal freedom. You don't allow yourself to feel like that in everyday life because there are so many distractions. But when you're out on the bike and there's nothing else, you're really free to experience what life is.”Tori worked on projects with the UNDP (the United Nations Development Programme) in Montenegro with the aim of bringing investment in rural communities. It was while working on these projects that the seeds were sown for the next new investment.“It was through my trip across Africa that I discovered pannier and rack systems inconvenient and I was never going to use them again.” Little did she know this would lead her to start up her own company. In 2013, her company was born, producing storage solutions for people seeking to travel the world by bike, race across continents and carry all they need to do so.It's now a successful global brand, but Tori remains reflective about what else the company can do for people.【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。 1.Why did Tori leave her job in B.Liberating.C.Eventful. D.Dangerous.B 解析:推理判断题。 3.Why did Tori launch her company A.To encourage bicycle travelling.B.To make her investment profitable.C.To help cyclists carry travelling stuff.D.To increase the pleasure of riding bikes.C 根据倒数第二段内容及最后一段中的“producing storage solutions for people ... carry all they need to do so”可知,托丽创办公司是为了帮助骑自行车的人携带旅行物品。4.What is the passage mainly about A.A tough path to fame.B.An adventure across Africa.C.The benefits of green travelling.D.A story of finding new meaning of life.D B(2024·驻马店高级中学高二期中)Standing on the shore of a lake, I can't help but marvel at the tens or hundreds of thousands of small rocks that surround my boots. They were all created from hard surfaces, their edges weakening and softening over time. And I wonder, can we learn from a pile of rocks Even the tallest mountains have worn down; none are as tall as they were 1,000 years ago.And much like a rock, I've found my attitude has softened and my desire to better understand others has expanded year by year.Once, I too was a sharp rock covered in pointy edges.Today, after decades of the waters of life coursing over me, my edges are softer and I become more understanding.I'm less likely to judge and more interested in learning how we can exist together. But I'm not a rock.I'm a human being filled with all the drama built in my DNA.Two years ago, while traveling in the Pacific Northwest, I watched a restaurant owner ask several people to leave for not wearing masks. Not forceful and not rude.On the door read a sign: “Please wear a mask before entering our restaurant. We don't like it either, but let's all do what we can to get through this abnormal situation together.”The group of young men wished to argue about the note.I sat watching, understanding both sides.I've been those guys before, using my youthful edges to chip away at the world. What I lost, however, was the ability to grow from experiences by looking through the eyes of others. In learning to be more open, I've also found more happiness and success. You can fit more rounded rocks in a jar than those with sharp edges. The former look for ways to adjust and make room for others; the latter never give an inch to accommodate others.Time, like the waters rolling against once sharp stones, changes us by washing away our resistance to seeing the world from others' points of view.I placed a rounded stone into my jacket pocket. 5.What does the author compare the rocks to A.Challenges we come across.B.What nature offers us.C.People's recognition.D.People's personalities.D 根据第三段中的“And much like a rock... understand others has expanded year by year.” 6.Why did the group of guys argue in the restaurant A.They intended to skip out on the bill.B.They were dissatisfied with the food offered.C.They were unwilling to wear masks.D.They were not allowed to leave the restaurant.C 根据第六段中的“Two years ago...leave for not wearing masks.”和“Please wear a mask before entering our restaurant.” 7.What does the author want to tell us with this passage A.We should adjust to new conditions.B.It's necessary to consider the feelings of others.C.Be brave when in the face of difficulties in life.D.Being open and understanding brings you more happiness.D 根据第四段中的“Once, I too was a sharp rock ... I become more understanding.”及倒数第四段中的“In learning to be more open, I've also found more happiness and success.” 8.What could be the best title of the passage A.Changing with TimeB.Learning from NatureC.Growing from ExperiencesD.Seeing Things from a Different AngleA Ⅱ.七选五Life LessonsLife is not easy when you are pursuing something worthwhile and ready to learn from the best experiences.1.__________Here are some life lessons which people will learn the hard way in majority of cases. It takes consistent time and effort to be successful in any area. However, people usually get discouraged when it takes more time than they thought it would. At this time, people refer only to people who have already achieved what you want to be, which most people fail to do.Look at some successful people and you'll notice one thing common in all of them. They took time to learn and mastered their skills like no one else.2.____Be brave to take the road less travelled. In our whole life,we always want to follow the same path that everyone suggests,do the same things that everyone does, take the same career path that everyone takes, wear the same clothes that everyone wears, and hang out with the same people we work with.3.__________But when you get bored of life, you will realize that you are not meant to do what everyone does and that your destiny is different from anyone else's out there in the world. But the price you pay to realize this is high because it takes a great amount of courage to follow your own path. You don't have to live your life in a way society wants you to.4.__________Parents sometimes force their children to select a career they don't want because other children have selected that career.Worst of all, people follow them without even asking. There is no harm in old rituals (惯例) and beliefs but when you pursue them before your interest, sooner or later you'll realize that you should first do what you think is right.5.__________However,if you are smart enough to learn early and wish not to waste your precious time learning them the hard way, learn them now and apply it to your life as soon as possible.A.You have to break the rules sometimes.B.After all, life lessons are always learned the hard way.C.There is no elevator to success, so you have to take the stairs.D.The reason why we follow others is that we are scared to fail.E.It always takes tests and then fails us to learn something worthwhile.F.The general rule goes that the harder you try, the greater results you get.G.Many old beliefs are being performed these days and are followed blindly.【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。 2.C 解析:根据上文“Look at some successful people ... mastered their skills like no one else.” 3.D 解析:根据上文“In our whole life... the same people we work with.” 4.G 解析:根据下文“Parents sometimes force... have selected that career.” Ⅲ.语法填空(2024·连云港高二期中)In a rapidly changing world it's significant to remain lifelong learners, which is a widespread recognition now.As you progress through life, you may study and work in new environments.Consequently, you 1.____________(expose) to new ideas, beliefs, practices and learning experiences. You may one day do jobs that do not yet exist, use technologies not yet 2.______(develop) and resolve problems that are not yet problems! My uncle, however, was in raptures .He admired its binding (封边), the clearness of its characters, the ease with which it opened in his hand, and repeated aloud, half a dozen times, that it was very, very old.I asked him what it was about. “It is the Heims-Kringla of Snorre Tarleson,”he said, “the celebrated Icelandic (冰岛的) author of the twelfth century—it is a true and correct account of the Norwegian (挪威的) princes who ruled in Iceland.”My uncle's delight was to have found the original work in the Icelandic tongue, which he declared to be one of the most magnificent and yet simple idioms (方言) in the world.I was about to venture upon some joke on the subject, when a small scrap of parchment (羊皮纸) fell out of the leaves. My uncle looked keenly at the document for some moments and then declared that it was Runic The letters were similar to those in the book, but then what did they mean This was exactly what I wanted to know. Now as I had a strong conviction that the Runic alphabet and dialect were simply an invention to confuse poor human nature, I was delighted to find that my uncle knew as much about the matter as I did—which was nothing. The shaking motion of his fingers made me think so.“And yet,” he muttered to himself, “it is old Icelandic. I am sure of it.”And my uncle ought to have known, for he was a perfect polyglot (通晓多种语言的) dictionary in himself. He did not pretend to speak the two thousand languages and four thousand idioms made use of in different parts of the globe, but he did know all the more important ones.It is a matter of great doubt to me now, if the clock had not struck two, and our old French cook called out to let us know that dinner was on the table, what violent measures my uncle's impatience might have led him to.“Bother the dinner!” cried my uncle. But as I was hungry, I rushed to the dining room, where I took up my usual spot. Out of politeness I waited three minutes, but no sign of my uncle, the Professor. I was surprised. He was not usually so blind to the pleasure of a good dinner. The dinner was a German luxury—parsley (欧芹) soup, a ham omelette (煎蛋) with trimmings (装饰), an oyster (牡蛎) of stewed beef, delicious fruit, and sparkling Moselle (白葡萄酒). For the sake of this old piece of parchment, my uncle did not come to share our meal. To satisfy my conscience, I ate for both. The old cook and housekeeper was nearly out of her mind. After taking so much trouble, to find her master not appear at dinner was to her a sad disappointment—which, as she occasionally watched the havoc (浩劫) I was making on the table, became also alarm. If my uncle were to come to table after all?Suddenly, just as I had consumed the last apple and drunk the last glass of wine, a terrible voice was heard at no great distance. It was my uncle roaring for me to come to him. I made very nearly one leap of it—so loud, so fierce was his tone.INCLUDEPICTURE "语基拾萃LLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "语基拾萃LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT①account [熟词生义] n. ④curiosity n.奇物;珍品⑤be familiar to... ⑦catalogue v. ⑩be absorbed in全神贯注于 particularly adv. celebrated adj. magnificent adj. 热烈地be similar to... dialect n. out of politeness出于礼貌luxury n.奢侈stewed adj.炖制的for the sake of为了conscience n. occasionally adv. LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMATTo Hell And BackAdapted from Reader's Digest 202402As a travel writer, visiting almost 150 countries over about 20 years, I have seen a lot of remarkable things. But I have never, ever seen or experienced anything like The Gates of Hell①, its flames dazzling② from the bottom of the crater③ 30 metres below, lighting up the Karakum Desert (卡拉库姆沙漠) with burning methane④. My visit nearly a decade ago was an unforgettable experience. In 2015, I landed in Tashkent, the bustling⑤ capital of Uzbekistan (乌兹别克斯坦), the country to the northeast of Turkmenistan, and spent some time exploring that country. I got a haircut and shave, a traditional style—meaning that the barber used an open flame to cut excess hairs from my face. I washed down hearty meals with cold local beer. After we crossed the border into Turkmenistan, the arid⑥, endless landscapes became even more vast. Finally, pulling into a flat spot tucked⑦ between two hills one afternoon—one of the most desolate places I've ever seen—we reached the Darvaza crater area, where we'd camp that night. First though, our guide told us, we'd be going to see the crater, eight kilometres away.Chasing the sunset, we raced through the Karakum Desert, driving hard on the road to hell. The route wasn't paved at all. We fishtailed⑧ through the sand and kicked up a rooster tail of dust that looked a mile long. Our Turkmen driver pushed the vehicle to breakneck⑨ speeds, music cranked.Eventually,we hustled⑩ toward a flaming crater on the horizon. And there it was.Seeing the flames, my companions and I exclaimed with excitement. “Hell,” he said in a Liverpool accent, “here we come!”I had expected the rotten-egg smell of sulphur (硫磺), but the gas was almost odourless . And when the shifting winds chased the heat out of the crater, it was an intense, dry sauna . I had to check my eyebrows to make sure they hadn't been singed off. I circumnavigated the crater several times under the darkening sky, standing perilously close to the lip.Looking back on my visit, in my mind, Darvaza will always be that moment the sun faded, and the stars came up. Standing there on the edge, the night cooling, so many miles of desert around me, in that faraway land. The flames below, fearsome and sublime , burning through the gloam . On the brink of one of the earth's great curiosities, somewhere between the heavens and—yes—hell.INCLUDEPICTURE "WordBankLLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "WordBankLLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT①The Gates of Hell 地狱之门(位于土库曼斯坦)②dazzle v. 黄昏 on the brink of 在……的边缘INCLUDEPICTURE "knowledgecheck2LLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "knowledgecheck2LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT答案:1.have seen 2.an 3.exploring 4.where 5.Chasing 6.Eventually 7.excitement 8.odourless9.to make 10.curiositiesINCLUDEPICTURE "WordMatchLLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "WordMatchLLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT1.remarkable adj. Iceland is a land of fire and ice, with its breathtaking land pieces and natural wonders. Its natural environment unveiled a spectacular showcase of geological wonders. The falls soared with their cascading waters, casting a mist in the air. The geothermal area of Geysir (间歇泉) captivated me with its explosive eruptions. I realized that the trip was a unique chance to rediscover and deeply explore nature.
