If you love art, “Picasso” speaks a lot. Pablo Picasso (1881—1973) wasn’t just an exceptional painter; he was

One of Picasso’s amazing feats was representing realism and contemporary culture through art. He, along with
Georges Braque, gave birth to cubism — one of the most revolutionary movements in modern art, paving the way
for nearly all abstract art that followed. His exploration of art did not stop with cubism as he wanted to make
something more inspirational, and thus came into existence — Collage (拼贴画) . Collage was a different kind of
art in which Picasso incorporated several signs and used some metaphorical terms to give them a concrete meaning.
Picasso received training from his father, who was an art teacher and a painter. At the age of16, Picasso had
already lost a liking to traditional art techniques and desired to introduce something new. His search began when he
joined the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. He experimented with different styles of art and explored grounds
like still life, portraits, mythological scenes, and landscapes. His work was daring and he always preferred to use
innovative perspective.
Picasso also produced sculptures and took an interest in theatrical productions. His most remarkable and
politically charged work was “Guernica”, produced in response to the Spanish Civil War when the town suffered a
terrifying bombing. To this day, it is a classic representation of war horrors.
On April 8, 1973, Picasso passed away in the city of Mougins, France, leaving behind a treasure of art that is

Penguins are some of the world’s most familiar and beloved birds, but southern rockhoppers are the tough
guys of the penguin world. Their fondness for colonies (聚居地) high over thousands of feet separates them from
the other penguin species that prefer soft, level ground in the Falklands.
One evening, I struggle to keep up with some scientists as they march through thick grass in the Falklands.
They are looking for rockhoppers that have pencil-case-size black boxes taped to their backs and collecting those
boxes, which contain GPS data loggers (记录仪). Some also track diving and heart-rate information. Later, in the
scientists’ field station, we gather around a computer screen, analyzing the collected data, which will give us a
critical read on ocean conditions, revealed by the birds’ responses.

over time. But as colonies damaged by human activities struggle to recover, a string of disasters has knocked them
down. Despite their bravery, rockhoppers are highly sensitive. Research by these scientists shows that even a small
increase in sea temperature can affect the birds’ food supply and lower chick and adult survival. Besides, changing
weather is causing unseasonably intense storms, killing chicks who haven’t yet grown their thick, waterproof
feathers.
However, moving to cooler water isn’t an option. The constant winds there would push the little penguins into
the icy coasts of Antarctica, and there’s no land where they could build new colonies. These scientists are trying to
re-establish the native grass. “It may be impossible to stop the changes sweeping their ocean habitats,” Quillfeldt, a
seabird ecologist says. “But to help them on land, at the breeding (繁殖) sites, is something we can actually do.”

Under the autumn sky of Tuohula Xinjiang, golden rice stalks wave gently. Ayinigeer Tuoheti, a 28-year-old
computer science graduate, wanders through the fields, checking the ripening crop. Her digital skills are bridging
the divide between her family's traditional rice business and the modern age.
In 2020, Ayinigeer returned home to assist her father — who’d built a 1994 rice processing plant but his
health weakened and struggled with business communications. She found the family’s work stuck in the backward
reality - the ledger book, handwritten records, and carbon paper. She resolved to transform the business.
First, she turned their small farmer cooperative into a company. Exploiting her computer background, she
automated invoicing, inventory, and order processing, shifting all work to electronic systems. To secure
high-quality rice, she partnered with over 120 households, who transferred the management rights of their land to
her company. Her company provided seeds and training, bought harvests above market prices, and shared
profits-boosting farmers’ incomes while ensuring premium raw materials.
In 2023, she tried livestreaming on electronic sales platform. With a smartphone, she presented viewers with
local rice fields, processing plants, and family meals with their local products. The initial phase was tough, but
local governments trained her in livestreaming skills. Their authenticity won audience: daily orders grew from 12 to

Hello, everyone. A new collection of artworks is going on show to the public next month in the form of an
artists’ exhibition. The exhibition will include many different types of art... over 100 different pieces, by 58 artists
from the local area. It will be held at the Royal Museum, which is opposite the library in West Street, just between
the Queen’s Park and the post office. The exhibition will begin on April4th and continue until July 5th. So there’
s plenty of time for you to go along and have a look. What will you see Well, there will be some exciting pieces of
modern jewelry, furniture, metalwork and sculpture. To give you some examples.. . Local artist Kate Maine will
be there to discuss her collection of pots and bowls made by herself, which look like real garden vegetables. They
are the sort of thing that would brighten up any dining table. Prize-winner Cynthia Course will also be there to
talk about her silver jewelry. Some of her rings are quite extraordinary and have beautiful colored stones on them.
Or if you prefer sculpture, there’s plenty of that, too. Take Susan Cup’s white paper sculpture of 25 pairs of shoes
for example. It sounds easy, but believe me it looks amazing. All of these artworks along with others will be on sale
throughout the exhibition period.
