Read the text below and pay attention to the use of enough and too.
When you travel around the world, it is important to know enough information about the manners of different cultures.
To enjoy world travel fully, avoid too much planning all at once. Trying to do too many thing can be too tiring. Take your time. To really understand the culture of a country, try to visit enough places.
Stay in each place long enough to get to know the local traditions.
Many young people are excited to travel to other places, but you should wait until you are old enough to travel alone.
Read and summarise
Read the text and pay attention to the use of enough to and too ... to.
In many countries, people are patient enough to wait in line in banks and shops. Also, they are kind enough to hold the door for you when you go in or out of a building. In public places, people are polite enough to keep their voices down.
In many countries, people are too polite to jump the line in banks and shops. Also they are too kind to push past you when you are in their way. In public places, people are thoughtful enough to keep quiet.
We usually use enough to and too ... to like this:
be patient enough to wait in line
kind hold the door for you
polite keep their voices down
thoughtful keep quiet
be too polite to jump the line
kind push past you
In the structures above, we can add “for someone” before the to-infinitive.
e.g. The food is too hot for Robert to enjoy.
enough和enough to的用法
e.g. There is enough room for you.
This house isn't big enough for us.
We didn't leave early enough.
我们可以用“be + adjective +enough+to do”的结构来描述一个人的品质和能力。
e.g. Confucius is wise enough to be one of the greatest ancient Chinese thinkers.
The girl is not brave enough to go near the dog.
Summary
too 和 too ... to 的用法
e.g. This bag is too heavy for me.
e.g. He is too tired to go swimming.
The water is too hot to drink.
too后面还可以加much和many,too much后面加不可数名词,too many后面跟复数名词。
e.g. We don't want to spend too much money.
There won't be too many people in the park.
e.g. The box is very heavy. The little boy cannot carry it.
= The box is too heavy for the little boy to carry.
The apple is very high. The child cannot reach it.
= The apple is too high for the child to reach.
e.g. He is too young to look after himself.
= He is not old enough to look after himself.
