新课讲授
I think it is about the story behind the Chinese idiom “Cheng Men Li Xue”. During the Song Dynasty, two students wanted to show great respect for their teacher, Master Cheng. One day, he was sleeping when they came to visit. Instead of waking him up, they waited for him quietly in the heavy snow.
Standing in the snow
to wait for Master Cheng respectfully
On a cold winter day, two students paid
a visit to Master Cheng, a well-known
teacher in the Song Dynasty. The master
was sleeping when they arrived. The two
students were too polite to wake him up,
so they waited outside the house patiently.
While they were waiting, it began to snow
and the snow was getting heavier. When the
master woke up, he was moved to see the
two students waiting in the deep snow.
(1) When did the two students pay a visit to Master Cheng
(2) How did Master Cheng feel when he saw the two
students waiting in the deep snow
(3) What does the story show us

2. How do you show your teacher your thanks and respect
3. What other stories about manners in China do you know

They are talking about manners in different countries.
Listen to the conversation and read along.
Reading
Amy: Manners are quite different in different countries, aren't they, Robert
Robert: Yes, it's true. Chinese people sometimes greet each other by shaking
hands, but British people like to greet one another with a big hug, and
sometimes we greet relatives or close friends with a kiss.
Amy: Good to know, I also know British people always say “please” and “thank you”, but in India, you do not need to thank a friend for making you
dinner. Instead, you show your thanks by inviting them to dinner next
time.
Robert: That's interesting.
Amy: It's good to know some manners in different cultures.
Robert: You said it!
Discussion:
1. How do they respond to others’ ideas
2. Do you know more expressions to show agreement

Maybe you have a point./Exactly./I agree with you./I can’t agree more./That’s true./You’re absolutely right./Definitely!/ That makes sense./I feel the same way.

Good table manners
Table manners are important in China and I am going to share some helpful advice.
First, when you are sitting at the table, you should not start eating until everyone is ready. Then, eat quietly and keep your mouth closed when you are eating. Also, never speak if you have food in your mouth. It is polite to talk about how tasty the food is. This will show that you are enjoying the meal. Moreover, remember it is impolite to leave the table until everyone has finished.
If a friend invites you to dinner at their home, do not rush your meal unless you have to leave in a hurry. When you are about to leave, don't forget to say “thank you”.
We should follow these rules to make sure that both guests and hosts are comfortable at the table. I hope that you find my advice useful.
Read Amy's article, work out the structure and the main ideas.
Para. 1 Introduction: what manners will be discussed in the article.
Para.(s) 2-3 Main body: specific rules of table manners.
Para. 4 Conclusion: the reason why following the rules is important
Read and find useful expressions in the article and come up with more with the help of the chart below.
(1) I am going to share some helpful advice.
(2) When you ..., you should .../You’d better .../It is polite to .../Try to .../When you ..., don’t forget to ...
(3) When you ..., you should not .../You’d better not .../Don’t .../Remember it is impolite to ... /Don’t ... until/unless ...
(4) We should follow ... to make sure .../I hope that ...
What else can be done to show good manners
When meeting someone, you should be polite enough to greet them with a smile and a friendly “hello”.
If you’re talking to others, you should listen carefully without interrupting.
When using public facilities, you should be patient enough to queue up instead of pushing in.
...
Write an article about other good manners. Make your notes like the ones in Part D1. Use Amy's article as a model.

Good classroom manners
Good manners are the heart of a happy and respectful school life. They don’t just make the classroom a nicer place—they make everyone feel seen, valued, and ready to learn.
Firstly, when you are in the classroom, you should avoid speaking too loudly. The classroom should be a quiet place, so making noise is discouraged. It is polite to listen attentively when the teacher is explaining something important. When working in groups, it is important to be patient enough to let everyone share their ideas.
Another key point is to arrive at school early enough to organize your books and materials before lessons begin. Also, make sure you start your schoolwork early. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
Last but not least, when you meet your teachers or classmates in the hallway, don’t forget to greet them warmly. A simple greeting or a friendly smile can make someone’s day and strengthen your relationships.
Try one tip this week, then another—and you will not only be a more polite classmate but also help make your school a happier place for everyone!
