A new major study suggests that maintaining healthy eating habits in midlife is linked to better aging in later years. Conducted by researchers from Harvard, the University of Copenhagen, and the University of Montreal, this study does not just focus on living a long life. Instead, it looks at “healthy aging,” which is defined as living to age 70 or older without major chronic diseases while maintaining good cognitive, physical, and mental health.
The team observed over 105,000 female and male health professionals in midlife for 30 years. Participants regularly completed detailed dietary questionnaires. The researchers scored these answers based on eight different healthy dietary patterns. These patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet or the DASH diet, generally encourage high intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, while limiting red and processed meats. They also carefully examined the amount of ultra-processed foods participants consumed.
The results are promising. A total of 9.3% of the population aged healthily. Overall, those who stuck to any of these healthy dietary patterns were more likely to age well. The top performer was the AHEI diet. People with high scores were much more likely to live past 70 in good health than those with low scores. Another strong option was the PHDI, which emphasizes plant-based foods while considering planetary health. In contrast, eating too much processed meat and sugary drinks lowered the chances of healthy aging.
The researchers emphasize that there is no “one-size-fits-all” diet. Healthy diets can be adapted to fit individual needs and preferences. The main goal is to eat mostly plant-based foods with a moderate inclusion of healthy animal products. This flexibility helps people maintain an independent and active quality of life as they age, which is a priority for both individuals and public health.
However, the study has some limitations. The participants were all health professionals, meaning their socioeconomic status and education levels might be higher than average. To apply the results more widely, future studies should repeat the research in populations with more diverse backgrounds.
24.How does the study define “healthy aging”
A.By living a long life without any illnesses.
B.By maintaining physical and mental health at 70.
C.By following a strict diet plan in midlife.
D.By avoiding animal-based foods totally.
25.What is a common feature of the recommended dietary patterns
A.They are high in red meat intake.
B.They strictly exclude all dairy products.
C.They encourage eating more plant-based foods.
D.They focus mainly on environmental protection.
26.What does the author suggest about healthy diets
A.They require people to eat the same foods.
B.They can be adapted to individual needs.
C.They are difficult to follow for young people.
D.They are better than medicine for diseases.
27.Why does the author mention the study’s limitation
A.To prove the study is unscientific.
B.To suggest the need for more diverse subjects.
C.To show health professionals eat poorly.
D.To indicate the diet is harmful.

Students at Franklin Middle School not only got to play carnival (狂欢节) games during school hours, but also raised money for a good cause. The eighth-graders from Phillip Whitworth’s classes did this by selling tickets for admission to the Annual Carnival Fundraiser, where they packed into the school’s gymnasium and played a huge variety of carnival games. The funds raised go toward a charitable organization that drills water wells in Africa.
“Knowledge is useless without action,” Phillip said of the event, which was started by Phillip and his wife in 2019, inspired by a book read in the school district called A Long Walk to Water. The novel tells the story of a fictional character named Nya, an 11-year-old South Sudanese girl who has to walk eight hours a day to bring home water, and the real-life Salva Dut, who founded an organization called Water for South Sudan.
To raise money, the Whitworths and Phillip’s students organized the school’s first annual carnival in 2019. Every year, the students choose the games that most people like and sell tickets to their classmates, and get donations from businesses and personal connections.
Camryn Robinson, an eighth-grader, found the experience of gathering donations stressful but added that it helped improve her communication skills. “A lot of people don’t take children seriously at first. But if you show people that it’s not just a carnival — it’s something that’s bigger than that, they will listen,” Camryn said.
Over the years, the students have raised money to drill three new wells and repair another three in South Sudan. This year, the students sold a little over 700 tickets for $5 each, so they raised around $3,500. But when factoring in business and personal donations, the students have raised more than $10,000, with donations still coming in.
“We might not be able to solve the whole problem, but we can absolutely make a difference for some people,” Phillip said.
28.What role did A Long Walk to Water play in the fundraising campaign
A.It inspired Salva Dut to join the mission. B.It taught students to organize a carnival.
C.It led to the start of the charitable cause. D.It motivated businesses to donate money.
29.What do Phillip’s students do for the annual carnival
A.They drill wells in person. B.They organize some games.
C.They work at different companies. D.They collect tickets from cinemas.
30.What did Camryn Robinson say about gathering donations
A.It was very rewarding. B.It was unchallenging.
C.Kids shouldn’t get involved. D.Most people initially supported it.
31.What is paragraph 5 mainly about
A.Phillip’s objective comments. B.Dramatic changes in South Sudan.
C.The outcome of the students’ efforts. D.Donations from all over the world.

Museums have long been considered as cultural storehouses that preserve and exhibit history, art and scientific discoveries. Yet, while some children frequently visit museums with their families, others — especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds — may never have the opportunity to engage with these rich cultural resources. This disparity can create gaps in cultural knowledge, academic engagement and even self-confidence.
Professor Anik Meunier at the Université du Québec à Montréal studies how museum visits can enhance student engagement in the classroom and address social inequalities. She has established the School at the Museum program with her colleagues to integrate museum education into the school curriculum (课程) for primary and secondary schools in Montreal. “Research indicates that actions aimed at improving educational success must be carried out regularly and at a pace that allows the acquisition of new attitudes, understandings or behaviour among the target population,” explains Anik. To this end, School at the Museum organizes regular visits to museums throughout the year. This provides students with consistent opportunities to engage with cultural and educational resources outside the classroom.
Anik and her colleagues found that students who attended museums showed greater emotional, behavioural and cognitive engagement than before. They observed that the visits created a stronger sense of connection to the museum environment and its resources, enriching students’ cultural knowledge and expanding their vocabulary. Most importantly, after participating in School at the Museum, students who had had little prior exposure to museums displayed equal engagement to their classmates who had visited museums with family or friends.
“To make the most of the educational value, one of the most important aspects of planning a museum trip is choosing the right museum and program for students’ needs. Most museums offer age-specific educational programs for school groups,” says Anik. “A visit to a museum can relate closely to courses in many subjects, such as history, science and art, and stimulate interdisciplinary approaches.”
32.What does the underlined word “disparity” in paragraph l refer to
A.The lack of scientific resources. B.The difference in cultural backgrounds.
C.The unequal chance to access museums. D.The uneven level of family involvement.
33.What is the goal of the School at the Museum program
A.To deepen students’ insight into education.
B.To enhance learning through museum visits.
C.To raise awareness of the value of museums.
D.To promote students’ classroom engagement.
34.What is the function of paragraph 3
A.Showing potential application of the finding.
B.Offering additional background information.
C.Giving examples to introduce the program.
D.Providing evidence to support the research.
35.What message does Anik try to convey in the last paragraph
A.Turning a museum trip into an active lesson with good planning.
B.Involving more school students in various museum programs.
C.Making school subjects more popular with young museum-goers.
D.Stimulating students’ interest in planning a suitable museum visit.

Yoga has a well-deserved reputation for helping improve balance and flexibility and for inducing calm and relaxation. 36 While you might not burn as many calories by practicing yoga as you would by running or doing some other high-intensity activities, yoga can still raise your heart rate and help build muscle. Here’s more about how yoga is a complete body and mind workout.

· 39 Doing yoga long term not only can help people lose weight but also can strengthen cognitive skills to help keep it off. A multiyear study examines the possibility of yoga maintaining weight loss. Its findings suggest that yoga may help to improve long-term weight loss outcomes via improvements in distress tolerance, self-compassion and a more positive mood.
Yoga is a very reasonable form of exercise, but you have to choose the right type. A 2021 study found no difference in weight loss totals for participants practicing a gentle, restorative yoga versus a more vigorous type of yoga. 40 Everybody can benefit from a yoga practice.

The English writing competition drew near. Jack, who had always struggled to put his thoughts into coherent words, determined to turn to AI for help.
He simply input the given theme of the competition, added a few key words, and hit “generate”. Much to his delight, in less than 5 minutes, the screen lit up. A vivid and well-structured essay was presented. Jack was amazed by how effortlessly the well-chosen words flowed on the page. Without a second thought, Jack signed his name and submitted the piece, ignoring the tiny voice of guilt from the bottom of his heart.
His essay stood out among hundreds of entries and was selected to represent the school in the municipal-level contest. When his English teacher, Ms. Cathy, called him to her office, Jack’s heart skipped a beat. With a gentle but firm tone, Ms. Cathy looked straight into his eyes and asked, “Jack, I need you to tell me the truth — did you write this essay entirely on your own ” The question hung in the air, heavy and inescapable. Jack’s mind went blank for a moment. The thought of losing the chance to compete, of being laughed at by his classmates for cheating, overwhelmed him. Taking a shaky breath, he kept his eyes off the teacher and nodded, “Yes, Ms. Cathy. Every word is mine.”
Ms. Cathy nodded, seemingly satisfied, and patted his shoulder, “That’s great. Your genuine hard work will pay off. This essay has a unique perspective, and I’m sure it will shine at the municipal contest.” But Jack didn’t feel any joy. On the contrary, a sense of guilt weighed heavily on him. That night, he tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. The lie he had told kept echoing in his ears. He thought about Ms. Cathy’s trusting eyes, about the meaning of the competition, and about how proud he would have felt if he had written the essay himself. He was torn between the fear of being exposed and the desire to do the right thing.

W:Welcome to the cooking demonstration.Tonight, I'm going to introduce the art of Thai fruit carving. When it comes to Thai fruits, they're quite often transformed into a piece of art. I really hope tonight's talk will open the door to a new culture for you. Thailand is known for its rich culture and traditions, and one of the most fascinating aspects of Thai culture is the art of fruit carving. This ancient art form dates back to the 14th century, and it has been passed down from generation to generation. Fruit carving is practiced in both Thailand and Japan, but the earliest known fruit carving was found in China. Fruits were carved both for decorative purposes and for the food to look more appealing before it was eaten. Thai fruit carving is not only a beautiful art form, but it is also a way to celebrate the beauty and abundance of nature. Now, if you just pick up the cucumber in front of you and one of the medium-sized knives, I'll show you how to turn that boring cucumber into a beautiful leaf.

The lecturer explained the switch to the computer-based English listening test, introducing its differences in operation and audio from the traditional one. He also shared practical mindset adjustment strategies, like taking deep breaths to stay calm.
This lecture was really helpful. Not only did we clearly understand the reform, but we also gained valuable listening skills. We all felt grateful for the school’s timely guidance, which gave us more confidence for the coming exam.

67.【答案】 The next day, Jack went to the teacher’s office. His hands trembled as he knocked on the door. When Ms. Cathy looked up, he took a deep breath and confessed, “I didn’t write the essay myself — I used AI.” Tears welled up in his eyes as he explained his struggle with writing and his regret. To his surprise, Ms. Cathy smiled gently. “Honesty takes courage, Jack,” she said. “Let’s work together to improve your writing skills. The competition is about growth, not just winning.” Relieved, Jack felt a weight lift off his shoulders.
The day to announce the results of the contest came. Though Jack’s essay was disqualified, Ms. Cathy praised his integrity in front of the class. Later, she handed him a new assignment — a handwritten essay on “The Value of Honesty.” This time, Jack poured his heart into it. Weeks later, his revised work won a school award. Standing on the stage, he realized true success came not from shortcuts, but from effort and honesty. The applause he received felt sweeter than any trophy.
