Thank you verymuch. Thank you!
Thank you for Principal Xu, all the teachers and most importantly, the class of 2025. If I can't make my speech
fantastic,I will at least try to make it short.
It has been nearly 40 years since I became a member of the navy. You may be wondering how I have won so many
honors. In fact, it all began from the half a 16 basic training, which I will never forget, The training included midnight
swims in the cold water, days without 17 and long painful runs in the soft sand. I always felt cold, wet, sleepy and painful.
The training also needed to find thosewho could 18 in an environment of stress, mess, failure and hardships. To me,
the basic training was a lifetime of challenges that lasted six months. And today, I'd like to talk about one little thing, which I
think is one of themost important points leading to great success.
Every morning in the training, my instructors would 19 in our rooms. The first thing they did was to check our
beds. The corners would be square if we did it right. The covers would be pulled tight, and the pillow would be centered just
under theheadboard.
It was a(n) 20 task. But every morning we were required to make our beds perfectly. It seemed a little funny, but the
wisdom of this simple act has been proved tomemany times over.
If you make your bed every morning, you will have completed the first task of the day. It will bring you a small sense
of success, and it will 21 you to doanother task, and another and another. And by the end of the day, one task completed
will have turned into many tasks completed.Making your bed will prove the fact. If you can't do the little things right, you
will 22 be able to do the big things right.
23 theworld canhappenanywhere and anyone can do it. I can make sure that it doesn't matter whether I ever 24 a
day in uniform. Even now, I still start my day with making the bed to perfection. So if you have an awful day by accident,
youwill come home to a bed that ismade—— that youmade——and the madebed gives you encouragement that tomorrow
will be better.
In general, if you want to change the world, 25 off by making your bed. I hope all of you will have a brighter future!

Today, about 50%of people in theworld wear glasses. But how much do you know
aboutglasses
No one knows who made the first set of glasses. However, it's sure that they were
first made in the 13th Century. Glasses showed up around the same time in northern Italy
and in China. Early glasses weren't made of glass. That's because most glass at that time
was not clear, so it wouldn't have worked well for glasses.
Glasses didn't look much like modern glasses until the 1700s. That's when people put ear stems(柄) to keep glasses on
their faces. Around this time, reading and writing became more popular, so more people needed glasses. Glasses were much
moreused thanbefore.
People didn't start seeing eye doctors for glasses before the 1800s. At that time, they just tried on different pairs of
glasses before they found one to make their eyesight better. Then eye doctors showed up and changed that. They gave an eye
test for people to tell whether or not they needed a pair of glasses.
Glasseshave changeda lot over the years. Onebig change was bifocals(双焦镜) in 1784. This made glasses help people
see things that are both far away and very near. Sunglasses are about as old as glasses. People in China started wearing
sunglasses in the 12thCentury. Today, many people alsowear contact lenses(隐形眼镜). The first contact lenses were not very
soft for people towear.Luckily, today's lenses are softer and canbe worn all day. And some people wear glasses with no lenses
at all! This is called fashionglasses. They come in many shapes and sizes to fit anyone's personal style.

Last week I visitedmy friend Pete in the new home where he lives with his wife and daughter.Pete used to spend his
holidays travelling the world, visiting the pyramids in Egypt or scuba diving in the Caribbean. Nowadays he prefers to spend
his holidays and weekendsmaking his house lookmore beautiful. Like hundreds of thousands of other British people, he has
discovered the joy of DIY(Do It Yourself), which means if there are any things that need fixing around the house, he will try
to do the job himself.
Ashe showedme the new kitchen he put together by himself and the newly painted walls, I asked Pete where he got
his inspiration from. He told me that his favourite source of ideaswas a DIY programme on TV.
This got me thinking about the enormous popularity of DIY programmes in the UK. Each major channel has at least
one homeor gardenmakeover showand there's even a satellite channel entirely devoted to the subject.
I guess it is not really surprising that DIY programmes are so popular. Two common sayings in Britain——“an
Englishman's home is his castle” and“there's no place like home”—— show how important our houses are to us. With the
current economic downturn, many people can't afford to buy a bigger house so they are looking at how they can make their
house better without spending a lot of money. DIY is the perfect option.
But beware! I read a report that said over 230,000 people were injured while doing home improvements in the UK in
just one year, including 41,000 who fell off ladders and 5,800 who were seriously hurt by hammers. So I won't be going
down to the hardware store.
I' ll stick to watching DIY on TV with a nice cup of tea!
29.What is Pete's favourite source of ideas for DIY
A. A DIY programme on TV.
B. Travelling around the world.
C. Scuba diving in theCaribbean.
D. Visiting the pyramids in Egypt.

D. Their houses are of great importance to them.
31.Why domany people in the UK turn to DIY during the economic downturn
A. They believe DIY is an interesting hobby.
B. Theywant to savemoney on home improvements.
C. They think DIY is a goodway tomeet new people.
D. They enjoy the challenge of doing hard physical work.
32.What is the writer's attitude towards DIY

If youmakemuchmoney everymonth, will you feel happy Does it make you feel happy According to a survey, some
millionaires(百万富翁) still didn't feel rich, then who does
I decided to visit Elizabeth Dunn, a psychology(心理学) professor.“If people have enough money to live a good life,
what would make them feel satisfied with what they have ” I asked her.Dunn didn't directly answer this question. But she
pointed tosome research that seemed toprovide somepossible answers.
First comes social comparison. Dunn says that it plays a very important role. If a person is richer than the people he
compares himself with, then he is going to feel rich. In a 2005 research in Germany, people will be happier if they are richer
than those who are similar to them in age and education. Another research found that people will feel less happy if their
neighbors are richer than them.
Dunnalso noted someother reasons thatmight lead people to feel richer. In a 2016 research, people's bank balance(账户
余额) may affect their life satisfaction. Some people feel pretty good about their wealth, but it's not because they are making a
lot. Instead, it may be because they always have enough money in the bank. That number is able to shape their sense of
financial security(财务安全).
It also matters a lot what people do with their money. In a recent study, spending money in certain ways can make
people feel better. Generally speaking, it helps to spend more onunforgettable experiences. Paying others to do the things that
one hates themost, such as cooking, also brings feelings of happiness.
“It's not just howmuch you have, but how you spend it,” Dunn told me.“If youmake excellent spending decisions, then
you can really feel happier.”
33.Why did the writer decide to visit Elizabeth Dunn
A. To find out how to become a millionaire.
B. To learn some knowledge about psychology.
C. To describe the result of the survey to him in detail.
D. To knowwhatmakes people feel satisfied with what they have.
34. According to the 2005 research inGermany, whenwill people be happier
A. Having lots of wealth. B. Talking with their neighbors.
C. Spendingmoney in a wise way. D. Being richer than those similar to them.
35.According to the passage, howcan spendingmoneymake people feel better
A. By competing with their neighbors.
B. By buying expensive and useful things.
C. By spendingmore on unforgettable experiences.
D. By showing off their wealth in front of their relatives.
36.What is the best title for the passage
A.Who ever feels rich B. How to be one of the rich
C.Why the rich feel unhappy D.What do you think of happiness

Nemoandhismanas theycrosseda large grassy area.We were going deeper and deeper. Two hours later, we were a hundred
metres under thewater. The suitsworked verywell, and it was easy to work andbreathe.
At onehundredmetresdeep, wecould still see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes.
This was the forest. The“trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical(垂直的). We could not stop
looking at them. Fish swamaround the branches like birds in a forest. Small shrubs(灌木) grew under the large seaweed trees.
Someof themhad flowers.
