Marianne North was an early female explorer, naturalist and painter. She traveled around the world, painting
plants, people and places. She left an extraordinary legacy behind.
Marianne looked after and traveled with her father for much of her life. After his death in 1869, Marianne,
financially independent at the age of forty, set off alone to explore and paint the world.
During her long artistic journey around the world, Marianne displayed impressive courage and determination.
Faced with numerous challenges in her pursuits, Marianne proved unaffected and would laugh it off. In Italy, when
her landlord pretended he had no rooms for them except those on the fifth floor, Marianne fearlessly responded
with “so to the fifth we went, and gained all the better view”.
Marianne’s most famous supporter was Charles Darwin. Darwin’s power of bringing out other people’s best
points extended to Marianne whom he advised to see and paint the Australian vegetation (植被) which was unlike
that of any other country. Taking Darwin’s advice as a royal command, she went at once and eagerly returned in
1881 to sit with Darwin and his children under a shady tree to look closely at her paintings together.
Marianne’s paintings and writing give detailed information on the location, habitat and uses of many of the
plants she painted. On her travels, she collected and discovered plants that were new to botanical science at the time.
A pitcher plant (猪笼草) she painted in Borneo, for example, was unknown to science at the time she painted it.
When botanists saw it, the painting caused great excitement. Through her art, she sought to inspire and educate
people about the natural world.
24. What made Marianne’s traveling around the world at forty possible
A. Personal fame. B. Family support.
C. Darwin’s advice. D. Financial freedom.
25. What does the author show by mentioning the event in Italy
A. Marianne’s painting skills. B. Marianne’s sense of humor.
C. Marianne’s positive attitude. D. Marianne’s physical
strength.
26. How did Marianne react to Darwin’s suggestion
A. She followed it immediately. B. She considered it a
great honor.
C. She discussed it with his children. D. She improved her
techniques first.
27. What can we infer about Marianne’s painting of the pitcher plant
A. It was her most famous work. B. It helped identify a
new species.
C. It was painted to attract botanists. D. It proved her
exceptional painting skills.

A report finds that greenhouse gas concentrations rose to a record high in 2024, with more carbon dioxide
(CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) trapped in Earth’s atmosphere, which will further worsen global
warming.
From 2023 to 2024, CO2 levels increased by 3.5 parts per million (ppm) — the largest annual rise since
modern records started in 1957. This is mainly because humans keep using fossil fuels (化石燃料) , wildfires have
increased sharply, and carbon sinks (碳汇) like oceans and forests (which naturally take in CO2) take in less. In
2024, atmospheric CO2 reached about 423.9 ppm, 152% higher than pre-industrial levels (before1750). CH4 and
N2O, the second and third most important greenhouse gases, also hit record highs, with CH4 up 166% and N2O up
25% from pre-industrial times.
CO2 is the most important greenhouse gas affecting climate, accounting for about 80% of the total heating
effect since 1990. Greenhouse gases trap heat by absorbing radiation, pushing up global temperatures. This causes
extreme weather, rising sea levels, food supply problems and other risks that threaten billions of people.
In terms of the emission (排放) of greenhouse gases, the top three countries in 2024 were China, the US and
India. It has been stressed that the heat trapped by CO2 and other greenhouse gases is greatly worsening the climate
and precipitating more extreme weather, making emission reduction very important not just for the climate but also
for economic security and community well-being.
Scientists are deeply concerned about a dangerous cycle: Global warming is weakening natural systems like
forests and oceans, which are vital for taking in CO2. As these systems lose their capacity to pull CO2 from the air,
more of the gas remains in the atmosphere, which in turn speeds up warming further. To address this pressing issue,
we must urgently reduce our use of fossil fuels and enhance our monitoring systems.
28. What is the main cause of the record rise in CO2 levels
A. Multiple man-made and natural factors. B. Extreme weather and melting polar ice.
C. A worldwide increase in forest planting. D. An obvious decrease in methane levels.
29. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 3
A. To introduce a new scientific study. B. To list the reasons for rising CO2 levels.
C. To show the importance of CO2 to people. D. To explain the main cause of global warming.
30. What does the underlined word “precipitating” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Ignoring. B. Causing. C. Controlling. D. Transforming.
31. Which is the problem that concerns scientists
A. Our ways of watching over the climate.
B. Unexpected slowdown in global warming.
C. People’s continued dependence on fossil fuels.
D. Global warming weakens nature’s ability to take in CO2.
D
Ageing is a natural process that affects everyone over time. It happens mainly because the cells in our body
slowly wear out. While signs like wrinkles, gray hair, and age spots are visible on the outside, ageing also deeply
impacts internal organs, physical strength, and mental function.
As we age, our cells renew themselves more slowly. Their membranes (the walls around the cells) harden,
which can affect how nutrients enter and waste leaves the cell. Damaged tissues take longer to repair, and overall
organ performance may not be as good as before. In the brain, a protective coating around nerve fibers wears down,
sometimes making it harder to recall memories or learn new things.
Certain physical changes become more noticeable with time. For example, cartilage (软骨) in the nose and
ears can change, which may make these features appear larger. Muscle and bone mass also decrease, leading to
reduced strength and height. While ageing begins from early life, research suggests its pace may quicken around
certain ages — studies point to noticeable shifts in the mid-30s, mid-40s, early 60s, and late 70s, often linked to
changes in immune (免疫的) function, heart health, and metabolism (新陈代谢).
Hearing and vision also commonly change with age. Many older adults experience presbycusis, a gradual
hearing loss due to wear on the inner ear. Eyesight often declines as eye muscles weaken, lenses (晶状体) lose
flexibility, and tear production decreases. These changes are normal, but sudden or severe loss should be checked
by a doctor.
Although ageing cannot be fully stopped, certain habits can support healthy ageing. Regular aerobic and
strength exercise helps maintain heart health, muscle mass, and balance. A balanced diet rich in vegetables, whole
grains, and lean proteins is also beneficial. Currently, such a way of life remains the most reliable way to slow
down ageing.
32. What primarily drives the ageing process
A. The visible changes in our skin and hair. B. The reduced function of internal organs.
C. The gradual damage to the body’s cells. D. The loss of muscle and bone mass over time.
33. What can we learn about brain ageing
A. It makes brain cells renew faster. B. It weakens one’s learning ability.
C. It improves nutrient intake in brain cells. D. It always leads to serious memory diseases.
34. What works best for healthy ageing
A. Regular hospital physical checks. B. Taking various anti-ageing pills.
C. Sustained healthy daily habits. D. Continuous medical research.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. What Happens to the Body During Ageing B. How Can We Live Longer and Healthier
C. How Does Our Body Slow Down Ageing D. What Is the Story of Healthy Ageing
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Boredom is a common part of life, across time and around the world. Although we find boredom unpleasant to
experience, it offers us real benefits for personal growth. 36 It motivates people to pursue new goals and
challenges. However, boredom is uncomfortable. Tolerating (忍受) boredom is a skill that many children resist
learning or do not have the opportunity to develop. Even many adults would rather entertain themselves with
electronic products than experience boredom.
37 Start with small doses of boredom and work up to longer stretches of unstructured time. Tips for
parents include getting kids outside, suggesting a new game or a recipe, or simply resting. Creating space for
boredom means that there will be some stretches of time when nothing in particular is happening.
Younger children might need suggestions for activities when they feel bored. Parents do not need to play with
them every time they are bored, but offering suggestions is helpful. Even just five minutes of boredom is a good
start for the youngest children. Encouraging older children to solve the problem of boredom themselves is
especially recommended. Without doubt, boredom is an unpleasant experience. 38
As children get used to occasional boredom, it will take them longer to become bored in the future. Children
regularly tolerating boredom may find life more engaging, which is good for them in the future. 39
Ultimately, the value of boredom lies in the mental boost it provides, which can stimulate a child’s innate curiosity
and creativity.
So the next time a kid complains to you about boredom, don’t feel guilty or frustrated. 40 It prompts
us to become more self-directed, to discover new hobbies, and to take on new challenges.
A. Tell them boredom is a part of healthy life.
B. They’re annoyed with parents about boredom.
C. Tolerating boredom can make them very upset.
D. That’s because boredom serves a useful purpose.
E. It takes practice to learn how to handle boredom.
F. However, do let them know boredom is a normal part of life.
G. Without this tolerance, they risk becoming adults who cannot handle boredom.

Wang has worked 56 a book restorer (修复者) for 17 years at the Capital Library of China in Beijing.
Her mission is 57 (breathe) new life into old books 58 (damage) by insects, water, or fire.
According to Wang, every step is crucial, and behind every sheet of paper and every drop of paste (糨糊) lies a

It is estimated that China currently has 50 million surviving ancient books, of 62 15 million are in
urgent need of restoration. Moreover, some ancient books have suffered further damage due to improper restoration
63 (method) used in earlier years, according to a report by Fudan University in November.
Du, 64 ancient book restoration expert, said something that left the deepest impression on Wang:

Class Farm Plots in Our School
第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I drove to the supermarket to buy snacks for a family party. It was an autumn evening, and the supermarket
was busy. As I walked to the self-checkout, I saw a young father in front of me. He wore old work clothes with
paint on them and looked very tired. A little boy, about four years old, held his leg tightly. The father also carried a
baby who was quietly using a dummy (安抚奶嘴).
The father was having a hard time. He tried to scan his items with one hand, while stopping his son from
touching the screen. The baby in his arms kept moving. The people behind me were all looking at their phones. It
felt lonely, like many evenings in the city. For some reason, this father made me think of my own dad, who would
come home late from work and leave snacks by my bed when I was young.
After I finished scanning my things, I watched the father. He kept picking up a nice fruit pudding and then
putting it back. His son looked up and said softly, “Dad, my teacher said this pudding has real juice.” The father
touched the boy’s head and rubbed his own rough hands together. Suddenly, the baby started to cry. The father
tried to hold him better, and the pudding fell from his shaking hand. At the same time, I heard someone behind me
make a quiet, unhappy sound.
I walked over, picked up the pudding, and saw his shopping basket. It had only simple things inside: bread,
eggs, and some milk powder. His face turned red. “My son has a school party tomorrow...” he said quietly, but then
the baby cried louder. The little boy pulled at his father’s old pants, which had a small hole in the knee. Seeing this,
I felt I had to do something. I walked up and touched the father’s shoulder. “Let me help,” I said.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At first, he looked surprised.
A few weeks later, he called me.

Have you noticed the new green patches on campus They are our class farm plots, a fantastic project where
each class can grow its own plants.
This project is truly valuable in two key ways. Firstly, it turns textbooks into reality. By planting and caring
for crops, we apply biology and chemistry knowledge firsthand, making learning active and unforgettable.
Secondly, it teaches beyond the classroom. The process fosters responsibility, patience, and teamwork as we
nurture life together.
These small plots are a big step for our growth. Let s all get involved, get our hands dirty, and watch both the
plants and ourselves flourish!

At first, he looked surprised. Then, he understood and seemed to relax a little. “My boy needs this for the party,
but…” he said. I smiled, put the pudding with my things, and paid for it. I quietly told him that making a child
happy was important. Hearing my words, the boy s eyes became bright. “Dad, can we have the pudding now ” he
asked. His father nodded, his eyes looking a little wet. Before we left, he asked for my phone number and wrote it
down carefully.
A few weeks later, he called me. We met in a nearby park. His son ran to me with a jar of handmade paper
stars, saying brightly, “We made these for you!” His father, standing tall in clean clothes, told me my small
kindness had given him hope. He now works as a handyman at his son s kindergarten, and life is slowly improving.
As the sun set, the stars glowed softly in the jar, reminding me that even a small act of kindness can ripple through
lives— bringing light to others, and warmth back to your own heart.
