Artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能) is programmed to be correct and helpful. Jennifer Smith recently completed her research aimed at finding out the use of AI in dance. She has spent more than a year collecting human dance examples and feeding them into the computer. In the recording room, around 30 dancers performed to music before the AI received hundreds of quick photos from their performances. In this way, the AI could learn to dance. Jennifer finally had something that looked like a human dance.
However, Jennifer found that the AI-based movements that created excitement were unbelievable—an arm that reached out to three meters long or was bent (弯曲) into a small ball. Arms and legs bent into impossible positions also got attention. “The dancers started asking themselves how they could do such movements with their bodies. They didn’t necessarily want a perfect copy of a human dancer. They wanted to be surprised: to see something that isn’t human,” Jennifer said.
The practice is not completely new. In 1975, a group of artists published a type of new ideas. They used a set of cards, each offering a so-called aphorism (格言) , such as a sentence designed to help artists deal with creative challenges. In research on creativity, people often see that if you are surprised or challenged, it can have a great influence on your inspiration and problem-solving abilities.
Using AI in this way is still unusual. “My results show that we have to think differently if we plan to use AI in creative practices,” she said.
In the further research of AI and creative professions, she believes it may be wise to rethink ways. In her project, the dancers started trying out the AI-based movements after she had fed all data (数据) into it. She had been working hard to make the machine’s dance look real. She said, “If I had started in the opposite end, by talking to the dancers about what they wanted, the project probably would have been better.”

Can a single storm change not just a city’s but a nation’s policy It has happened before. The Netherlands (荷兰) experienced its own coastal disaster (灾难) 70 years ago, and it changed the country greatly. The storm came from the North Sea in January, 1953. Then the dike (大坝) failed. Many people living on an island in the southern province of Zeeland couldn’t get out of their homes because of the flood (洪水). The disaster killed 1,836 in all, including a baby born on the night of the storm.
After the disaster, the country began a program of dike and barrier (屏障) construction called the Delta Works, which lasted more than four decades and cost more than 6,000,000,000 dollars. One very important project was the 8-km barrier built to protect Zeeland from the sea. The final part of the Delta Works, a movable barrier protecting Rotterdam Harbor and about 1.5 million people, was finished in 1997. Like other primary sea barriers in the Netherlands, it’s built to survive a 1-in-10,000-year storm.
The transparent domes (透明的穹顶) of Rotterdam’s Floating Pavilion (漂浮展亭) represent an even more creative way to control the sea. The three domes, each about three stories tall, are made of a plastic that is a hundred times as light as glass. Though the domes are used for meetings and exhibitions, their main purpose is to show the possibility of floating architecture in cities. The city expects that as many as 1,200 homes will float in the harbor by 2040. “We think these structures will be important not just for Rotterdam but for many cities around the world,” says Bart Roeffen, the architect who designed the pavilion.
An inscription (铭文) on the side of a barrier in Zeeland says Hier gaan over het tij, de maan, de wind, en wij —Here the tide is ruled by the moon, the wind, and us. “We have to understand that we are not ruling the world,” says Jan Mulder of Deltares, a Dutch coastal management company. “We need to change.”

“Tonight ” I was not ready for this.
“Tonight,” he repeated, “We are a few miles off the Spanish coast. It will be dark, and the wind is blowing in the right direction. You agreed, Dr. Aronnax, to escape (逃跑) with me. Remember your promise!” I said nothing. “At nine o’clock,” continued Ned Land, “I will go to the stair with Conseil. You will wait in the library for our signal (信号). I have already put some food in the dinghy. Everything is done!”
“The sea is quite rough,” I said.
“Yes, but if we don’t go tonight, we will soon be too far from land!” I knew that he was right. I was also frightened. What would Captain Nemo do if he discovered our plan, or if we failed I had not seen him for several days. Now, I did not want to see him. He might notice that I was nervous. I stayed in my room as the hours slowly passed.
At seven o’clock, I had dinner in my room. Only two hours to go! I was so nervous that I felt sick. I had a headache. I walked up and down in my room. As I looked around, I saw that Captain Nemo’s bedroom door was open. The room was empty.
It was eight o’clock, and I went to the dark library. As I waited, I felt a bump as the submarine (潜水艇) came to rest on the ocean floor.
The library door opened, and Captain Nemo entered. He told me that we were in Vigo Bay. A Spanish admiral (海军少将) had burned his own ships there in 1702 to prevent the British Navy from taking the huge amount of gold they were carrying. He took me to the window. The first thing you notice about Ushi Okushima is her laugh. It fills the room with joy. This rainy afternoon, she sits comfortably with her friends, Setsuko and Matsu Taira, cross-legged on a tatami mat drinking tea.
Ushi has recently taken a new job. She also tried to run away from home after an argument with her daughter, Kikue. Not long ago, she started wearing perfume (香水), too. When asked about the perfume, she jokes that she has a new boyfriend. Predictable behavior for a young woman, perhaps, but Ushi is 103.
With an average life expectancy of 78 years for men and 86 years for women, Okinawans are among the world’s longest-lived people. This is undoubtedly partly because of Okinawa’s warm and inviting climate and beautiful scenery. Senior (年长的) citizens living in these islands usually enjoy years free from disabilities (残障).
A lean diet of food grown on the island and the idea of moderation (适度) may also be the reasons. They eat until their stomachs are 80 percent full and they don’t eat fat from the meat. In fact, this healthy way of eating was born of hardship. Ushi Okushima grew up in a poor family; her family grew sweet potatoes, which were included in every meal. “We experienced terrible hunger during World War II,” Setsuko recalls.
Many older Okinawans belong to a moai, a support organization whose members give and receive help to and from the organization throughout life. Ikigai may be another key to their success. The word means “what makes one’s life worth living,” and it is something that is different for each person. “My ikigai is right here,” says Ushi with a slow sweep of her hand that points to her friends Setsuko and Matsu. “If they die, I will wonder why I am living.”

Have you ever wished you could talk to the “you” from the future Well, now a new AI project called Future You is trying to make that happen.
First, Future You uses AI to ask you questions about who you are, what your life is like now,and what you want to do in the future. Then it collects all the information and creates a picture of you when you're 60 years old. So you can ask this“future you” questions and get advice for what's to come.
Future You can even show you a picture of what you might look like at 60. A scientist said,“The system makes the pretend version (虚拟版本) really seem like the real deal. Future You is a lot more detailed (详细的) than just thinking about your future self in your head.”
The website of Future You says it’s meant to help you think more about the long term by making you feel more connected to your future self. If you feel more tied to that future you, you're more likely to make good choices for your future, like with money, school, or your health. Scientists tested Future You on 344 people. The ones who talked to Future You for 10 to 30 minutes felt less worried and more motivated about the unknown future.
But Future You isn’t perfect. A professor said, “We don’t know if people actually did anything different or changed how they act because they talked to their future self.” Also, the AI can only show one possible future, not different ones. In the end, as an article in Forbes (《福布斯》) said, “It’s all just pretend.” So we can’t believe everything Future You says as if it’s completely true.
16.What does Future You do first
A.It shows users a picture of their future.
B.It collects users’ information and future plans.
C.It asks users questions about their past experiences.
17.What does the underlined word “motivated” mean in Paragraph 4
A.有动力的 B.焦虑的 C.困惑的
18.Which of the following statement (陈述) does the writer probably agree with
A.Everything Future You says is completely true.
B.Future You is only a pretend version, so it’s useless.
C.Future You makes it possible for you to talk to your future self.
19.Which of the following could be the best title for the passage
A.AI: A Perfect Tool to Know your Life
B.Forbes: A New Way to See the Project
C.Future You: A New Way to See the Future

The rise of AI doctors is no longer a story from future films. It’s really happening now. In different areas of China, we can clearly see how smart machines are bringing big changes to the medical field.
In February 2025, Beijing Children’s Hospital surprised many by using the country’s first AI doctor for kids. This was a difficult medical case (案例). An 8-year-old boy suddenly became very ill. The doctors couldn’t explain why. They also found a tumour (肿瘤) in his head. Thirteen top experts tried hard to find the best treatment. At the same time, the AI quickly checked the boy’s health records and signs (迹象). It learned from lots of data (数据) from over 300 child doctors. In just a few minutes, it suggested an operation plan that matched (匹配) what human doctors thought. What’s more, it could quickly find the newest medical studies, which helped to find the problem faster.
In Shandong, a parent worried when their child had a high temperature. They tried DeepSeek. After sharing blood test results, the AI said it was likely a germ infection (细菌感染) and advised medicine. Later, the hospital doctor gave the same medicine, even the amount(剂量) was the same.
Even in places with fewer medical tools, like small clinics (诊所) in Wuhan and country areas in Shandong. AI is helping. In Wuhan, hospitals now use AI to study CT photos in less than a minute. Before, it took hours. In country Shandong, AI systems (系统) help patients talk about their health problems, and even help disabled people move around hospitals.
These examples show two key (关键) things AI can do: help top doctors make better decisions and make healthcare easier for everyone. However, some still discuss its limits (限制). As one doctor said, “AI gives ideas, but human care and thinking are still needed.”
24.How did AI help the boy in Beijing
A.Suggested an operation plan.
B.Taught medical tools use.
C.Replaced (代替) the human doctors.
25.Why did the Shandong parent trust AI
A.The AI was cheaper than hospitals.
B.The doctor gave the same medicine.
C.The AI could make the child healthy again.
26.What is the doctor’s opinion about AI in the last paragraph
A.AI will replace human (人类) doctors completely.
B.AI is useless without human thought.
C.AI provides ideas but needs human care.
27.What is the main purpose of the article
A.To discuss how AI doctors replace human doctors.
B.To describe AI’s changes to medical care in China.
C.To talk about the problems AI caused in hospitals.

①Is the summer vacation long enough to turn life for the better Every person has his own talents and interests. Find something you care about, and you will see the difference.
②Organize a clean-up program. People often throw litter in the place where there is already litter. This leaves the community in a mess. The environment will become better if someone volunteers to help. You could pick up the rubbish with your friends once a week in your neighborhood. You could also help take care of the plants every few days. Surely, a clean and tidy neighborhood will be worth the work.
③Show your love to the old. Our city has some old people’s homes. Without children around them, the old people there might feel lonely once in a while. Maybe they need your help. In fact, you can do a lot for them. For example, you can talk with them or play games with them. Listening to them carefully is also a good idea. Some old people can’t see clearly and they would like you to read to them. No matter what small things you do, you can make them feel loved.
④Set up a reading project with your friends. Share your favorite books with them. Besides, you may read aloud to each other and talk about what you read. Either a book or an article can spark a lively discussion and your further thinking. The process often challenges more people to take action. The project is also a good way to welcome newcomers. At the same time, you may find new friends with similar hobbies.

Everybody knows how important it is for students to get a good night’s sleep every night. You are not able to do your best and keep up with all of your responsibilities unless you sleep well. Most experts agree that our bodies need eight hours of sleep every night, and this has been accepted as common knowledge for a long time. 36
I read an interesting article in a teachers’ magazine recently. They did a study of 848 students. 37 While most go to bed and get up at regular times, many are now waking up at night. It’s not because they need to use the bathroom or have a snack. It’s because of something new called FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
38 They’re scared of missing messages or fun group chats. But every time they do this, their deep sleep—the kind that repairs the body and brain—gets broken like a movie suddenly stopped. 39 The study found something even worse: Teens who check social media (社交媒体) at night are three times more likely to feel sad or worried compared to those who sleep through the night.
So, I’d like to ask you to be responsible for yourself. Take control! Turn off your mobile phones and computers at night. 40 I give you my word that you won’t have missed anything important.
A.As a result, they lose the most important hours of rest.
B.The world won’t end and your online friends will be waiting to greet you in the morning!
C.However, I was young once and I know that most of you get much less sleep than that.
D.Here’s what happens: Students wake up at night, often around 2 or 3 AM, to check their phones.
E.The research showed teenagers have a new challenge.
