Watching strong, determined cholitas (女摔跤手) wrestle is a unique tourist attraction in La Paz. Dressed in
traditional clothes, these native women are famous for defeating males with quick moves, exciting the cheering
audience.
Who are the cholitas
Not so long ago, the word “cholita” was a very rude term. People used it to laugh at native women and their
clothes and traditions. In recent years, a movement led by the Aymara president Evo Morales has made these once
looked-down-on people proud again. Now cholitas can wear their traditional pollera skirt, shawl and bowler hat
freely, both in the streets of La Paz and in the wrestling ring.
The history of cholitas wrestling
Wrestling has been popular in Bolivia since the 1950s, but women joined only in the mid2000s. At that time,
some native women who suffered some family problems started wrestling to make friends, reduce stress and feel
powerful. Promoter Juan Mamani noticed its potential, used smart marketing and turned it into a professional sport.
Audience interaction
The show is fun and exciting, just what the audience wants. Drnks and popcorn being thrown between the
performers is all just part of the show.
How and where to watch cholitas wrestling
Cholitas wrestling is mainly in El Alto, Bolivia near La Paz’s capital. The main place is El Alto
Multifunctional Center, with shows mostly on Thursdays and Sundays. The cholitas perform amazing skills like
suplexes and body slams. The 4-hour show allows free entry and exits. If worried about going alone, book a guided
tour with local experts to experience the wonderful cultural performances.
1. What can we learn about cholitas today
A. They are often laughed at by men. B. They can wear traditional clothes freely.
C. They are more competitive than males. D. They no longer follow their old customs.
2 Why did women join in wrestling at first
A. To support the wrestling promoter. B. To celebrate their country’s history.
C. To make wrestling a professional sport. D. To deal with their difficult situation.
3. What can visitors do when watching cholitas wrestling
A. Throw drinks at other visitors. B. Compete with the athletes.
C. Come and leave as they like. D. Get a translator for free.

Joann Moschella has been biking the sharp streets of San Francisco since the late 1980s.
“The insanity of the hills, not to mention the never-ending winds that bring the fog, is not the real danger,
though they are a challenge,” Moschella said. “Everyone who rides a bike in a big city knows that the real danger is
other cars.”
About eight years ago, Moschella was cycling to a BART station after work when a car sharply went into the
bike path. Moschella turned right, thinking she had avoided a crash — but the car brushed her back wheel. “I went
down so fast,” she recalled. “My helmet (头盔) hit the ground, and then my face met the pavement, opening a cut
above my eye.”
Dizzy (头昏) but awake, she moved to the sidewalk. Her glasses had flown off in the fall. As she began
searching, a young man approached, wearing a light purple rabbit suit. “Are you OK Can I help you ” he asked.
Shocked, Moschella thought, “Wow, am I going to die in San Francisco ” Once she realized he was real, she
asked him to help find her glasses. They discovered the glasses at the crossing, but as the man moved to get them, a
truck ran over the glasses, breaking them completely. The man gathered the pieces and returned them, and then
asked if she needed an ambulance. “I’m a physician,” Moschella said. “It isn’t a dangerous cut. I just want to get
home.” She asked if he could help her reach BART. Together they walked to the station.
“The joy of the young man in the rabbit suit coming to my rescue proved everything I love about San
Francisco: the kindness and the unplanned spirit of community,” Moschella shared.
4. What does the underlined word “insanity” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Heavy traffic. B. Obvious similarities.
C. Unexpected beauty. D. Great toughness.
5. What directly caused Moschella’s accident
A. The strong winds and fog. B. A sudden turn of a car.
C. A failure of her bicycle’s back wheel. D. Her own mistake while turning right.
6. What do Moschella’s words in the last paragraph suggest
A. The rabbit suit stands for freedom.
B. The young man was a medical professional.
C. She was deeply touched by the young man.
D. San Francisco is a popular tourist attraction.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Wearing a Helmet Saves a Life. B. The Danger of Cycling in San Francisco.
C. A Rabbit-Suited Hero’s Rescue. D. Moschella’s Acts in a Traffic Accident.

Researchers completing one of the largest studies on the possible environmental influences of deep-sea mining
(采 矿 ) found a bit more than they expected on the ocean floor: 4,350 animals, each at least larger than 0.3
millimeters. From these, they finally found out 788 separate species (物种) of unique sea animals.
While the team found that harvesting minerals (矿物质) from over 13,000 feet below the ocean’s surface may
not be quite as harmful as at first thought, the damages still cause serious concerns.
Despite being one of the most unwelcoming environments for humans on the planet, there is a rapidly growing
business interest in the deepest parts of the sea. Unfortunately, this interest is frequently less about environmental
protection and more about deep-sea mining.
One of the most attractive targets for deep sea mining is the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ). In addition to
being rich in minerals, the CCZ is also one of the world’s least understood habitats (栖 息 地 ). In 2022, sea
biologists mentioned the discovery of over 5,000 new species during research trips to the area.
With so much variety of living things left to explore, environmentalists have repeatedly voiced worries about
the environmental influences of deep sea mining on areas like the CCZ. However, there is hardly any research into
the topic.
“Important metals are needed for our green change and they are in short supply,” Dahlgren, study co-author,
said. “Several of these metals are found in large numbers on the deep-sea floor, but until now, no one has shown
how they can be taken out or what environmental influence this would have.”
To learn more about the possible effects, Dahlgren and his teammates surveyed a nearly 50 mile area of the
CCZ. “Since most species have not been described before, molecular (分子的) data is very important in helping
studies of biodiversity (生物多样性) and ecology on the seabed. So, there is a clear need for direct study of the
influences of mining on the number of sea animals and biodiversity at the seafloor,” Dahlgren explained.
8. What is the main focus of the growing interest in deep-sea areas
A. Taking out minerals. B. Discovering new species.
C. Knowing about the habitats. D. Protecting the environment.
9. What is a feature of the CCZ
A. It is easy to get close to. B. It is mineral-rich and poorly studied.
C. It has been fully explored by biologists. D. It is the main habitat for deep-sea species.
10. What is environmentalists’ main concern about deep-sea mining
A. The increasing need for important metals.
B. The quick increase in deep-sea species’ numbers.
C. The difficulty in finding minerals in deep-sea areas.
D. The shortage in research on its environmental influences.
11. Why is molecular data important for the study
A. It supports biodiversity research on sea species.
B. It helps develop deep-sea mining technologies.
C. It proves deep-sea mining is extremely harmful.
D. It serves as an effective way to create new species.

A team at the University of Florida reports that optimism, regular (定期 ) good sleep, strong social ties and
similar positive influences are closely connected to healthier brain states. Their findings show that lifestyle choices
and stress management can meaningfully affect the speed of brain aging, even among people who live with chronic
(慢性) pain.
The study tracked 128 adults in midlife and older adulthood, most of whom had chronic pain linked to knee
osteoarthritis (关 节 炎 ). Over a time of two years, researchers used MRI scans processed through a machine
learning model to work out each volunteer's “brain age” and compare it to their actual age. The difference between
the two, known as the brain age gap, offered a single measure of whole-brain health.
Certain difficulties, including chronic pain, limited education and social disadvantages, were connected with
brains that appeared older. However, those connections decreased over time. Instead, protective habits such as
restful sleep, healthy body weight, effective stress management, avoiding tobacco and keeping supportive
relationships showed a stronger and more lasting connection to younger appearing brains.
Volunteers who reported the highest number of protective things began the study with brains that looked eight
years younger than their actual age, and their brain aging continued to progress more slowly throughout the
two-year follow-up.
"The message is the same across our studies. Health-promoting actions are not only connected with lower pain
and better physical functioning, but they appear to actually improve health in an additive fashion at a meaningful
level," said Sibille, senior author of the report.
Although the research centered on people experiencing chronic pain, the authors note that habits such as
lowering stress, building up social support and keeping healthy sleep patterns are likely to benefit brain aging in
many different people. “Really for every additional health-promoting thing, there is some evidence of
neurobiological (神经生物学) benefit,” Sibille said. “Our findings support the growing body of evidence that
lifestyle is medicine.”
12. What is the main idea of paragraph 2
A. The process of the study. B. The reason for brain aging.
C. The importance of machine learning. D. The influence of knee osteoarthritis.
13. What do we know about volunteers with the most protective behaviors
A. They showed no brain age gap after the follow-up.
B. Their brain aging slowed down during the two-year study.
C. Their brain age was 8 years older than actual age at first.
D. They had no chronic pain connected to knee osteoarthritis.
14. What can be concluded about the study's results
A. Chronic pain has the most effect on brain aging.
B. Limited education is more harmful than chronic pain.
C. Machine learning can stop the process of brain aging.
D. Healthy lifestyles help not just chronic pain patients.
15. What is Sibille’s attitude towards the findings
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Uncaring.
第二节 (共 5 小题; 每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5 分)
根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
选项中有两项为多余选项。
It’s amazing that many problems can be solved with a good sleep. ___16___ It improves our focus, lifts our
mood and strengthens our immune system to keep us healthy.
Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep, on average, each night. This varies. ___17___ So if you’re
feeling tired all the time, an easy check is to note how much time you spend in bed. If it’s fewer than seven hours, it’
s probably not enough. And even if it’s within that seven-to nine-hour window, try getting an extra hour or two of
sleep for a few days in a row. If you feel a lot better, you have your answer.
If you know you should sleep more, but you can’t seem to figure out how, below are the basics of sleep habits
you need to master.
Set a wake-up time that you can stick to every day. ___18___ Don’t set the alarm for 6 a.m. on weekdays and
sleep until noon on weekends. If you can’t be perfectly regular, adjust as needed, but try to do your best.
___19___ Before your alarm goes off, figure out what time you need to go to bed to get enough sleep. Then
work backward from that to figure out when to start changing into jammies (睡 衣 ) and whatever else your
nighttime routine involves.
Very important to both steps is prioritizing (优先) sleep. If you’ve been having trouble getting enough sleep
lately, give yourself a week or two to make your bedtime and wake-up time the highest priority appointments in
your calendar. Don’t stay out too late. ___20___ There will be time for sometimes staying up late once your
everyday schedule is more regular.
A. Regularity is important.
B. Good sleep helps us a lot.
C. Next comes setting a bedtime.
D. Try your best to break the cycle.
E. And don’t stay up late just for extra time.
F. So you can actually get yourself on schedule.
G. You might be a seven-hour person or a nine-hour person.

At Red Cross Elementary School in Barren County, Kentucky, Scott, a STEAM teacher, made a big difference
to one of his students’ life with his kindness and creativity. Recently, he was named the 2025 Kentucky Teacher of
the Year, but what made him really special was a secret project he had been working on for nearly a year — one
that would change a young boy’s life forever.
The project was for Jackson, a fourth-grade student in his class. Jackson was born without his right hand. For a
long time, he used a rubber prosthetic (义肢的) hand. However, this hand didn’t work well at all. It was unable to
help Jackson hold things firmly. Simple daily tasks like taking a pencil, opening a book, or carrying a backpack
became great challenges for him, which often made him feel sad.
When Scott learned about Jackson’s problem, he decided to do something to help. He didn’t tell Jackson or
anyone else except his wife, keeping the project a secret. “I was worried that this task might be too hard for me,”
Scott said. “I didn’t want to make him and his family hope for something that I couldn’t finish. I wanted to surprise
him with a real solution, not empty promises.”
To make a better prosthetic hand, Scott spent much spare time researching and designing. He stayed up late for
information, read articles on prosthetic technology, and even asked engineers worldwide for advice. He studied
existing models and adjusted every detail to fit Jackson’s small hand.
At the school’s Back to School Bash, Scott showed Jackson his primary model and asked softly, “Would you
like me to make one just for you ” Jackson was joyful, and with his mother’s permission, the project started. After
months of work, an improved prosthetic hand was finished — light but strong, with soft foam inside for comfort,
and working completely by mechanics, easy for Jackson to control.
注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Scott helped Jackson put on the prosthetic hand carefully.

Dear Peter,
How is everything going I’m glad to share my opinions on AI with you in detail.
AI is extremely important in modern society. It speeds up development in many fields such as science and
technology, and greatly improves our life quality by saving time and energy.
It also has a good influence on me. It helps me solve difficult study problems quickly and provides useful
learning resources tailored to my needs. Besides, it makes my daily life easier, like helping me set reminders,
arrange my study plan and search for information quickly. I believe AI will bring us more benefits in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:
Scott helped Jackson put on the prosthetic hand carefully. Jackson’s fingers trembled a little at first, but with
Scott’s patient guidance, he slowly moved his new hand. To his surprise, he could easily grasp a pencil that Scott
handed him — something he had struggled to do for years. Tears filled Jackson’s eyes as he wrote his name
clearly on a piece of paper, his smile growing wider and wider. His mother stood beside them, wiping away happy
tears, and thanked Scott repeatedly. Scott patted Jackson’s shoulder gently, saying, “See You can do anything you
want with it.” The whole scene was warm and touching, attracting the attention of other students and teachers
around them.
Jackson’s life changed greatly after he got the new prosthetic hand. He no longer felt frustrated; instead, he
became confident and active in class. He could now take notes by himself, participate in hands-on activities in
STEAM class, and even play ball games with his friends. He often visited Scott after class to share his progress.
Scott’s kindness and creativity not only gave Jackson a functional prosthetic hand but also the courage to face life
bravely. This warm story spread throughout the school, and Scott’s students all looked up to him more. It also made
Scott realize that a teacher’s love and effort can truly change a student’s life.
