Birthday celebrations around the world
Birthdays are special, no matter where you’re from. But do you know that countries around the world have different ways to celebrate birthdays Let’s find out together!
Forget the big cake! If you’re at a birthday party in Australia, you’re more likely to see fairy (仙女) bread. It is made from white bread topped with butter and colourful sprinkles (糖屑). Many Australians grow up eating it. Their parents or grandparents often make it for them. Because of this, fairy bread is more than just a dessert, it’s a sweet memory of childhood (童年回忆).
In central Canada, there’s a fun tradition of putting butter on the birthday person’s nose. It’s believed that this makes the birthday person “slippery (滑的)” so that bad luck can’t catch them in the coming year. The older the birthday person is, the more butter they get on their nose!
If you get to celebrate your birthday in Spain, you’d better be young! On your birthday, your friends will pull (拉) your ear once for each year you’ve lived. Just when you think it’s over, you’ll get another really hard pull for more luck! It’s all done to make your wishes come true and bring you a long life.
One of the birthday traditions in the Netherlands is for everyone to sit in a circle of chairs. This circle is called “de kring” in Dutch. Space Travel In the future, everyone may have a chance to travel to spaces! Scientists are making special space homes and new ways to grow food. Maybe someday, we can build homes on Mars (a planet like Earth)!
