He was going very slowly. Finally, I decided to pass him. But just when I was going to turn left, a scooter rushed by and almost hit me. I quickly stopped. The man shouted at me, “Is this your first day on the road Signal before you turn!” He did teach me a lesson. I always remembered to signal before I turn.
The other story happened last year. I was cycling very quickly down another bridge.
Suddenly, an elderly woman stepped onto the bikeway! I stopped as soon as possible. But I stopped too hard. My bike fell heavily to the ground and I was badly hurt. I could hardly get up for the next few minutes. I looked around. The woman safely went on.

Listening to music can help people with motion sickness (晕动症) feel better, according to a new study. Motion sickness may happen when you’re traveling by car, boat, plane or train.
About one in three people are very likely to get motion sickness, but almost everyone gets motion sickness if the movement is strong enough. Children between the ages of 2 and 12 are more likely to feel ill, but no one knows why some people get motion sickness and others don’t. Scientists know people get motion sickness because different messages go to their brains. In a moving car, for example, your eyes tell your brain you’re moving because things are quickly past. But your inner ear (which helps with balance) tells your brain you’re sitting still.
This can make you feel ill.
Scientists in China invited 30 people who seemed to get motion sickness. They used a driving instrument to make them feel like in a moving car. Sensors on their heads can record brain activity. By watching the activity, the team could know when they were experiencing motion sickness or feeling better.
Five people were in a group. When they felt carsick, they stopped” driving”. And four groups listened to different kinds of music for one minute. The other groups didn’t listen to music. The results showed that joyful music was the best kind of music to make people feel better. Soft music was the second, followed by energetic music.
However, sad music actually slowed improvement. Even people who listened to nothing felt better than those who listened to sad music.
21. Who is more likely to get motion sickness
A. An 11-year-old child. B. A 1-year-old baby. C. A 25-year-old man. D. A 50-year-old woman.
22. Why do people get motion sickness
A. Because they don’t often listen to joyful music.
B. Because there is something wrong with the eyes and the ears.
C. Because they are afraid of traveling by car, boat, plane or train.
D. Because their brains get mixed messages from the eyes and ears.
23. What can the sensors do
A. Help with balance.
B. Test hearing ability.
C. Watch their eye movement while driving.
D. Record brain activity and help to discover motion sickness.
24. What is the right order of music that can help people with motion feel better
A Joyful>Energetic>Soft B. Soft>Joyful>Energetic
C. Joyful>Soft>Energetic D. Energetic>Soft>Joyful
25. What is the best title for this text
A. Danger of Motion Sickness B. A Musical Cure for Motion Sickness

Dongzhi, falls on December 21st this year.In northern China, eating dumplings is a must-do thing on this day. There’s a funny saying: “If you don’t eat dumplings on this day, your ears might freeze and fall off.” But why dumplings It is said to remember Zhang Zhongjing.
In the later years of the Eastern Han, Zhang Zhongjing returned to his hometown. It was winter when Zhang arrived. He saw many villagers get frostbite (冻疮) on their ears because of the cold weather.
On the day of Dongzhi, Zhang asked his people to set up a medical tent and prepare a soup. He put mutton, red pepper and some medicine that could drive away the cold into the pot and boiled them all together. After cooking for a while, he fished the mutton and medicine out of the pot, and then cut them into small pieces. He put them in dough wrappers (面皮) to make“Jiao’er”—a food that looked like human ears. Zhang gave each person two “Jiao’er” and a large bowl of warm soup. After people ate the “Jiao’er” and drank the soup, they felt warmth going through their bodies. The frostbite started to get better.
Later, people began making food similar to “Jiao’er” during winter. This food slowly became what we now call dumplings (Jiaozi) . And that’s the heartwarming story behind why northern Chinese eat dumplings on Dongzhi.

Communities around the world are turning plastic (塑料) waste into a way of making money and helping their families. Litter pickers keep their communities clean by collecting plastic, and they sell the waste to factories to use it again.
Plastic is a wonderful thing. It is strong, light and is cheap to make. However, plastic takes 500 years to break down in nature-and it never disappears.
Every day, quite a lot of plastic goes into the oceans, and this kills about 100, 000 sea life every year. Plastic bags in the water look just like delicious fish. Some animals eat them by accident.
Today, the world makes 225 times as much plastic as it did in 1950. Over half of plastic is only used once before we throw them away. This is difficult for poorer countries. They don’t have enough systems to do with so much rubbish.
A community called Plastic Bank has helped people to turn plastic into something valuable.
Their community is made up of more than 55, 000 people in different countries. They collect plastic bottles to stop the plastic from going into oceans. People fight for themselves and begin to get together for the greater good.
Three things you can do to stop plastic waste
1.Reduce (减少) Try not to buy one-off plastic things like bags. Remind your family to carry reusable bags when shopping.
2.Reuse Think about ways to give plastic things a new life, instead of throwing them away. For example, (A).
