The idea of turning Mars into a livable world for humans is common in science fiction. But could such an action be done in real life?
Scientists are now studying a new method to warm up Earth's neighbor. The idea includes putting tiny particles(颗粒) made of iron or aluminum(铝) into the atmosphere(大气层) of Mars. The goal is to trap escaping heat and direct sunlight toward the Martian surface. The idea would raise the surface temperature on Mars by around 28℃ over ten years.
Such a change alone would not make Mars livable for people. But the scientists who developed the idea see it as a possible first step. There are several difficulties for humans to live on Mars, such as less breathable oxygen, salty soil, and dust storms that sometimes cover much of the planet. And Mars' low temperatures are a serious problem. The surface temperature is about -65℃.
Samaneh Ansari of Northwestern University in Illinois is the study's lead writer.Samaneh said,"The idea is to send iron and aluminum to Mars.Even better, just send the tool and make the particles on Mars since the surface of Mars is rich in iron and aluminum."
Edwin Kite of the University of Chicago helped lead the study. He suggested that the costs and benefits of the new method are uncertain. For example,he said if Mars' soil is harmful to life from Earth, then the benefit of warming Mars is zero.
37.What does the underlined word"trap"in Paragraph 2 mean?______
A. create B. spread C. recycle D. prevent
38.How does the writer show the difficulties of living on Mars?______
A. By telling stories. B. By asking questions.

39.According to Samaneh,which is a better choice?______
A. Collecting salty soil from Mars.
B. Sending the tool for making the particles to Mars.
C. Sending iron and aluminum to Mars.
D. Saving iron and aluminum on earth.
40.What was Edwin's attitude towards the new method?______
A. Doubtful. B. Fearful. C. Uninterested. D. Supportive.
41.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?______
A. B.

What is your earliest memory?Perhaps pictures of a birthday party come to mind,or maybe a long-ago family vacation. Now think about how old you were when it happened. You may find that your earliest memory comes no further back than your third birthday. For most people, anything that happened before they were 3.5 years old is a blank slate(白板).
As scientists continue to learn more and more about the brain, the questions of how far back we truly can remember and how those memories influence us as adults are coming to be seen.Every experience—whether happy or sad—is put into memory and seems to have a lasting influence. Our feelings when we were babies influence us for the long term.
Besides the childhood stories we can remember, there are many different kinds of "memories".We all know the terms"short-term memory"and "long-term memory".But have you heard the terms"explicit memory"and"implicit memory"?
Explicit memory is the kind of memory that is conscious(有意识的) and gives us the ability to tell a story that makes sense of what happened. This type of memory only develops fully in most people around the age of three.Implicit memory starts in our brain from birth,or possibly even earlier. However,it is not conscious. While we may not remember the events of those earliest memories, they have left a lasting impression on our thinking, feelings, and behavior.
Because of the ability our brain has to store and hold information from a very early age, scientists today are paying more and more attention to creating good early childhood memories. We might mot remember learning to walk, but our legs and feet seem to do this perfectly now.Just like this, some of our most important lessons were learned at a time that our bodies, not our minds, can remember.
42.What does the underlined word "it"in Paragraph 1 refer to?______
A. A painting. B. A family.
C. The third birthday. D. The earliest memory.
43.What can we infer from Paragraph 2?______
A. It's useless to learn a baby's memory.
B. Happy experiences are easy to remember.
C. Anything in memory may influence our adult life.
D. People have no interest in their feelings as babies.
44.What's the difference between explicit memory and implicit memory?______
A. Whether people like them.
B. Whether people know them.
C. Whether people record them.
D. Whether people are influenced by them.
45.Why did the writer talk about learning to walk?______
A. To explain the reasons for forgetting things.
B. To tell us the necessity of playing with babies.
C. To warn people to care more about their babies.
D. To show us our bodies have childhood memories.
46.Which of the following can be the best title?______

B. Advice on improving memories
C. The importance of a good memory
D. Childhood memories and their influence
