In Japan, “labour education” isn’t a single subject. It’s a part of daily life at school. From a young age, students learn responsibility and teamwork through hands-on activities.
One major practice is school cleaning. Students don’t wait for janitors (清洁工) . Each day, they grab brooms and cloths to clean their own classrooms, hallways, and even bathrooms together. This teaches them to respect their environment and appreciate (感激) the work of others.
Another key part is lunch service. Students take turns serving meals to their classmates in the classroom. They wear hats and aprons (围裙) , handle food properly, and help clean up afterward. It’s a lesson in cooperation, hygiene (卫生) , and gratitude.
Many schools also have school gardens, where students grow vegetables. They learn about nature, hard work, and the satisfaction of producing something real.
For older students, there is often career (职业) experience. They might visit local companies, farms, or workshops for short internships to get a taste of different jobs.
The main idea is simple: real-world skills like cooperation, responsibility, and a strong work ethic (道德观) are just as important as book knowledge. Japanese schools believe that by pitching in every day, students grow into more capable (有能力的) and community-minded adults.

47.What is the core idea (核心理念) behind all these labour education activities
A. Punish students for bad behavior.
B. Build up students’ physical strength.
C. Develop real-life skills and character.

Whenever the Sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned many life lessons. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really learned a lot from mountain climbing. It gave me time to talk to my father and to be in deep thought as well as to develop my patience.
Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first hours, I enjoyed the flowers, trees and the bird’s singing, but as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit. In fact, I hated mountain climbing at that moment. But my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there, at the top, can you see all of the nice things—just like it is in your life.”
At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got new hope and confidence. I found myself standing at the top of the sky, which was as clear as crystal

In the film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying: “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.” It’s the same with blind boxes. Blind boxes like Pop Mart have become a big hit worldwide, loved by both collectors and window-shoppers. What started as a small trend (趋势) is now popular all over the world.
Blind boxes began with lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. People loved the surprise of not knowing which toy they would get until they opened the box. This idea spread around the world and step by step changed and developed into different forms (形式). Today, blind boxes can include humans, toys, or even art. In the early 2000s, Western markets started to like blind boxes too. Toy companies used people’s love for uncertainty, curiosity and fun. Simple toys became themed collections, creating a strong market by making special blind box series (系列).
Blind boxes work on psychology (心理). The excitement of not knowing what’s inside is a big draw. People hope to find rare or special things. Collecting has also become popular again, especially with young people who enjoy building big collections. Online sharing makes this better: platforms like TikTok let people share unboxing videos, show their finds, and talk to others, making the experience more fun.
Studies say the blind box market in the world will grow by over 6% each year from 2021 to 2026. Online shopping and online stars have helped this growth. Young people are the main buyers, looking for unusual things that show their personalities.
Blind boxes are here to stay. As they become more part of everyday culture, their mix of surprise collecting, and online sharing will keep them popular for years. Some people surely get much fun from the boxes, but others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys.
