The Fascination of Beijing Opera
Beijing Opera, one of the most renowned forms of Chinese opera, has a long-standing history and rich cultural heritage.
With a history of more than 200 years, Beijing Opera is a national treasure. Its main tones originated from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei respectively. Over the past hundreds of years, the roles of Beijing Opera have been simplified to today's sheng, dan, jing and chou, known as the four major roles.
The stage layout of Beijing Opera pays attention to freehand brushwork. The performers present dramatic plays and figures mainly by infusing four artistic methods: singing, dialogue, dancing and martial arts. The singing is used to intensify the appeal of the art by various tones. The dialogue is also performed artistically. The dancing and martial arts add more excitement and charm to the performance.
The costumes in Beijing Opera are magnificent, with detailed embroideries and vivid colors, helping to distinguish different characters. The facial paintings are another remarkable feature, with each color and pattern representing specific personalities and traits.
