Dear editor,
In order to stimulate students' enthusiasm for learning and cultivate their self-confidence,our class will hold a class meeting with the theme of 100 days countdown to the College Entrance Examination. Now I would like to introduce my class meeting activity plan as follows.
First, our headteacher will give an opening speech, explaining the purpose and significance of the class meeting. After that, the song "My Future is not a Dream"is played to create a class atmosphere. Then it is arranged that the students will talk about their goals and how to spend the next 100 days. Finally, everyone will take a collective oath to stimulate the passion of learning. In addition, before the class meeting, students should prepare the lyrics of "My future is not a dream"and the content of their speech.
I would appreciate it if you could take my plans into consideration.

As soon as the dawn broke, Lucy continued to search the dark forest. She called out Patrick’s name loudly, her voice trembling with worry and love. She stepped carefully over branches and rocks, following the small path she had discovered the night before. Tired and hungry as she was, she never stopped moving. The hope of finding her son kept her going. Suddenly, a thin wisp of smoke rising in the distance caught her attention. Her eyes lit up immediately, and she rushed towards it as fast as she could.
The smoke was coming from an old cabin by a still lake. She pushed the door open gently and found Patrick sitting quietly by a small fire, safe and unhurt. He had found the cabin and stayed there to keep warm. The moment Patrick saw Lucy, he jumped up and ran into her arms, crying happily. Lucy held him tightly, tears of relief running down her face. She gave him food and water, and then they walked back to the campsite together. Everyone was overjoyed to see Patrick return safely.

【原文】W: Thank you for inviting me to view this special exhibition. It was my pleasure to come to this gallery.
M: That’s all right. The artworks were painted by a local artist. He spent decades painting the beauty of this unique town, along with scenes from his life.
W: May I ask a question I heard that the artist died in 1922 without ever selling a single painting. Is that true
M: Yes, indeed. The artist preferred to be alone. He lived by himself, working in secret, and painted almost all his life. His friends and family only discovered his talent after he died at the age of 92. When they cleared his house, they found more than 300 paintings. And no one had ever seen these paintings.
W: How surprised and delighted he would be to know that his artworks are now being shown like this!
M: Yes. One thing I particularly love is that these paintings tell me what his life was like from when he was young until his death.

M: I think it’s because I was nervous. I passed all my practice exams with my instructor with high scores. But then with a stranger, I failed.
W: I have an idea.
M: What is it
W: Ask your instructor to go with you to the exam. You are allowed to have them in the back of the car.
M: Really
W: Yes. My cousin did that to help her pass. It took her seven times!
M: I shall talk to my instructor about it.
W: How many lessons have you had
M: Feels like a million. But probably around 50. All my salary from working at McDonald’s disappears because of driving tests.
W: It will be worth it in the end. It took me forever to pass my English and math exams. You must keep going. It’s the same when you are applying for jobs. You might be turned down 10 times, but on the 11th try, the job is yours.
M: I suppose so.

Hello, and welcome to Sounds of the Airwaves. First released in 1970, the last song we played was Let It Be by the Beatles. Written by English musician Paul McCartney, the song was inspired by a dream he had of his mother, who sadly died when he was just fourteen. In the dream, she tried to make Paul feel better by saying everything would be okay, and just “let it be”. He woke up, wrote the song, and it went to number one in countries all over the world!
Sit back, relax and listen with me to some of the best songs the world has ever produced. Over the next hour, we’ve got 1987’s Bad by Michael Jackson, Universe by the boy band Exo, and many more.
But before all that, coming up after the break, we have something totally different... From the 2019 album Lover, which sold over a million copies in China, Cruel Summer is a song about pain and upset. Sung by Taylor Swift, the popular American singer, it’s one to make you think!
Stay tuned — we’ll be back after the advertisements!2026届辽宁省沈阳市二模试卷

At 102, the American neurologist has lived a life so extraordinary it earned him a Guinness World Record as the oldest practicing doctor — an honour he received just before turning 99. Though he officially hung up his white coat at 100, Tucker remains as active and engaged as ever.
Today, he lectures future doctors at Case Western Reserve University, and consults on medico-legal cases — work made possible by a law degree he earned at 67. His message Retirement is not a requirement.
“Retirement, I think, is the enemy of longevity,” Dr. Tucker recently told Al Roker on NBC’s Today. “You have to have some purpose in life and get up in the morning and know what you’re about.”
Dr. Tucker credits his longevity not just to good genes — his parents lived to 84 and 96 — but to lifestyle choices. “Heredity(遗传) and family history of longevity is a healthy start,” he wrote in his Guinness World Record submission. However, this still needs to be backed by balanced eating, controlled alcohol intake, and a happy state of mind.
His daily routine reflects that belief. He snowshoes in the winter, walks for at least four kilometres a day, and eats a mostly clean diet — fruit and cereal (麦片) in the morning, fish and vegetables at night. Lunch is often skipped to maintain mental clarity. Dessert, however, is a must-have — typically fruit or ice-cream, enjoyed with his wife of over 70 years.
And while he rarely drinks, he allows himself the occasional martini. One thing he’s always avoided: cigarettes. Dr. Tucker also says it’s important to keep the brain stimulated. “If they retire from their work, they should at least do something as a hobby,” he told Today. “You need a stimulus for the brain daily.” Science backs him up.
24. When did Dr. Tucker stop working as a doctor
A. At the age of 100. B. Before he turned 99.
C. When he was 102. D. At the age of 67.
25. What can we infer from Dr. Tucker’s work after he turned 100
A. He stopped all his professional activities at once.
B. He did teaching and legal-related medical work.
C. He only gave lectures to some medical students.
D. He immediately started studying for a law degree.
26. What is Dr. Tucker’s attitude towards retirement
A. He thinks retirement is necessary for longevity.
B. He believes retirement can help people stay happy.
C. He considers retirement harmful to a long life.
D. He suggests everyone should retire at a certain age.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A Healthy Diet and Daily Exercise Greatly Benefits a Long Life.
B. A Law Degree for Doctors Helps One Live a Happy Retired Life.

D. World’s Oldest Practicing Doctor Shares Secrets to Longevity.

The patient pulled a painful face with cries, but he refused to speak to his doctor. The patient was a goat.
Recognizing animal pain is tough. Humans must rely on subtle body language or behavioral changes. But a new AI model automates this process by identifying pain in goats—using only their facial expressions.
Traditionally, detecting animal pain involves hand-analyzing photos or videos for specific signs—raised lip, wide-open nostril and creating pain scales (量表) for individual species. But we humans detect and interpret animals’ pain with bias (偏见), says Chiavaccini, the study’s lead author. “When detection is automated, the computer just picks up the patterns.”
Chiavaccini’s team videotaped 40 goats of various kinds, ages and different medical conditions at a veterinary (兽医的) hospital, making over 5,000 fixed frames. Using a behavioral pain scale, clinical history and physical exams, they classified each goat as in pain or not. The team tried three approaches, training an algorithm (算法) on different image groups while reserving others to test that training. The most balanced model was trained, adjusted and finally tested for five times, which gave 80% average accuracy. “Such training basically builds 30 years of clinical experience in 30 minutes,” Chiavaccini says.
AI-powered tools built with similar methods could someday help veterinarians make quicker and more accurate diagnoses or warn farmers of early pain in livestock. “This study shows a silver lining of AI in animal care and highlights the need for further exploration across diverse species,” says Mahmoud, a scientist in human and animal behavioral AI.
Such tools already exist for nonverbal human patients, but these systems’ effectiveness can be limited by poor image quality or nonstandard camera angles. “Many of the engineering problems we solved, like adapting to messy, real-world conditions, could be helpful to human medicine,” Chiavaccini says. “Doctors worry about perfect lighting or head positioning. Meanwhile I’m out here racing after a goat with my camera.”
28. What makes recognizing animal pain difficult according to the passage
A. Heavy dependence on photos.
B. Misinterpretation of animal’s pain.
C. Unreliability of humans’ judgement.
D. No pain scales for each animal species.
29. What is presented in paragraph 4
A. Research process. B. Practical examples.
C. Theoretical analysis. D. Historical methods.
What’s Mahmoud’s attitude toward the application of AI in animal care
A. Ambiguous. B. Cautious. C. Promising. D. Doubtful.
Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Facial expressions work wonders. B. AI describes pain in goat expressions.
C. Three approaches to studying livestock. D. AI: a new way to treat animals’ diseases.
D
An annual report on health and climate change published in The Lancet found that an estimated 2.5 million people die each year as a result of air pollution. It also found that heat exposure deaths have risen sharply by 23 percent since the 1990s. In total, 12 out of 20 health indicators fell to record levels for two years. All health risks of climate change are worsening.
Despite the large numbers of deaths associated with fossil fuel pollution, governments still spent $956 billion funding oil and gas companies in 2023. “We are seeing the expansion of oil and gas globally and that is threatening our survival,” said Dr Marina Romanello, Executive Director of the Lancet Countdown.
New analysis shows the recently drafted national climate plans from more than 60 countries fall short of what is needed to prevent the worst impacts of climate breakdown. Taken together, these plans to reduce carbon over the next decade would only reduce global emissions (排放) by about 10 per cent by 2035 compared with 2019 levels. Dr Romanello said, “The most concerning finding is the declining of climate change commitments and actions from world leaders. Our population is at great risk. In the UK, half of National Health Service (NHS) hospitals have already been forced to close wards (病房) or change services due to flooding, while others struggle during heatwaves.”
Despite these warnings, some progress has been made. Cleaner air due to coal phase-outs has saved an estimated 160,000 lives annually, and renewable energy generation reached record highs. The green economy is now three times faster-growing than fossil fuels, supporting more than 16 million jobs in 2023.
“We’re already seeing big benefits from tackling climate change. We need to ensure that the transition supports people and their well-being and their health. Otherwise the transition will be useless. With every moment of inaction, those threats will worsen, and protecting people will become increasingly challenging, if not impossible,” said Dr Romanello.
32. The author lists the data in paragraph 1 to show ________.
A. the speed of global warming B. the benefits of climate policies
C. the rise of human health indicators D. the impact of climate change on human health
33. What can be inferred about governments from paragraph 2
A. They invest insufficiently in public service.
B. They take little consideration of public health.
C. They plan to limit the expansion of oil and gas.
D. They are cooperating closely with health experts.
34. What is Dr. Romanello’s attitude towards the national climate plans
A. Doubtful. B. Optimistic. C. Critical. D. Objective.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The economic cost of climate inaction.
B. Warnings and progress in the climate crisis.
C. A scientific guide to phasing out fossil fuels.
D. The environmental impact of renewable energy.

If you want to develop maximum credibility (可信性), is it better to be a hedgehog (刺猬) or a fox According to Isaiah Berlin, the hedgehog knows one thing very well, and the fox knows a lot of things.
Is there a clear advantage of one style over the other Hedgehog thinkers tend to answer yes. 36 And they are usually very credible in doing so. According to Jim Hart, the “hedgehog concept” is one of the factors that lead companies to greatness. They focus on one thing and do it really well. They figure out what they are good at. 37 The hedgehog concept makes perfect sense for companies.
38 Philip Tate has studied the track records of those folks on the Sunday talk shows who make predictions about what will happen. He has found that hedgehogs are not only wrong more often than foxes, but that they are less likely to recognise or admit that they are wrong when events do not match their predictions.
The advantage that foxes have is that they are more likely to seek out new information from a broader range of sources, and are comfortable with uncertainty and new information. 39 They try to include it in their viewpoint rather than to exclude it from their thinking. They also have a clearer estimation of what they know and don’t know.
So, which is better The question can be answered in a foxy hedgehog style. 40 The choice between being a hedgehog or a fox is a false trade-off. The most effective way to go through life is to try to be that rare mixture known as foxy hedgehog.
A.In other words, there are clear advantages for each.
B.They are more likely to remember people’s mistakes.
C.Hence, they have the advantage of clarity and confidence.
D.But there can be a downside to concentration on one big thing.
E.However, hedgehogs remain open to others’ reactions and inputs.
F.When something is contradictory to their view, they don’t treat it as exceptional.
G.They come down squarely on one side or the other and fully support their position.

Dear editor,
第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lucy turned on the TV. The house was quiet because her son, Patrick, was on a school camping trip. She was surfing through TV channels when Patrick’s teacher phoned her.
“Hi, Mr Randall,” Lucy said. “Is everything okay ”
“I’m so sorry, Miss Stevens,” Mr Randall wept. “I don’t know how this happened, but Patrick is lost!”
Lucy’s heart thumped like a drum.
“What...” Lucy nervously asked. “What do you mean, Mr Randall How could he get lost ”
“I’m not sure. I already called the police, and they’re currently out there, searching the woods.”
Lucy stood. “I’m heading out there right now!”
She fetched one of the old hiking backpacks, climbed into her car and then set off.
By the time she arrived at the campsite, the sun was setting. “When did Patrick get lost ” Lucy asked as she strode toward Mr Randall.
“I know Patrick was still with us when we stopped for lunch.” Mr Randal sighed. “But I’ m not sure when he got separated from the group. When we returned to the campsite, he was missing.” Lucy looked at the children moving among the tents. Thinking of her son out in the forest by himself brought tears to her eyes.
Lucy hiked and camped frequently when she was younger. She returned to her car and fetched the supplies she’d packed. She had brought a flashlight, food, and water, in addition to the multi-tool and a basic first-aid kit in her backpack.
It was very dark. Lucy didn’t want to go in there alone, but Patrick’s safety depended on her. She turned on her flashlight and set off along a narrow path leading through the trees.
