Chinese tourist attractions have seen a roaring travel boom (繁荣) this month as millions of primary and middle school students hit the road for their first-ever autumn holiday. I love the way clouds roll above your head, wander lazily across blue skies and east momentary shadows on the ground below. These ever-floating sculptures of vapor and light are among nature's least appreciated wonders. That's why 20 years ago I started the Cloud Appreciation Society to remind people to look up.Now climate science is catching up, revealing that clouds aren't just poetic; they' re vital in helping to regulate Earth's temperature. The mix of cloud types over our planet ensures they have an overall cooling effect because the shade from the low clouds outweighs the warming effect of the high ones.
These clouds don't just look different from one another; they also have very different effects on temperatures at the surface of the land or water below. These differences have to do with how much of the sun's heat they allow through and how much of Earth's heat they trap in. But it's unclear how clouds will change in a warming climate. With an atmosphere as vast as ours, there is insufficient empirical (经验主义的) data. For now, climate scientists can only make informed guesses, based on ever more complicated computer models. As global temperatures rise, scientists believe we may see fewer of the low, cooling clouds but not of the high, warming ones. W: Welcome to the International Language College. It's a beautiful place that is well worth visiting in this city. As you can see there are a lot of buildings in the college. As new students, you might find it difficult to find your way in the college, so we will take you on a quick tour. The college used to have four departments: English, French, German and Russian, but now there is a Chinese department as well and we are going to set up a Spanish department next year. At the moment we' re outside your department, the English pared with other departments, it is the largest department in the college. In the English department there are over 200 students, 30students in each class. We have 50 teachers, including 20 professors in this department.
