According to NASA and the European Space Agency, this winter should be a perfect time to see northern lights. Here we suggest where to see them in style.
Deplar Farm, Iceland
Isolated in the ice valleys of the Trolf peninsula in northern Iceland, Deplar Farm has uninterrupted views of the aurora borealis (极光). The 13-room lodge offers activities such as winter heli-skiing, mountain biking and horse riding in the snow. Nordic-style suites look out over a lake and mountain from which to hike and view the green skies.
Doubles from 2,960 a night
Sheldon Chalet, Alaska, USA
The only things around this Alaskan hideaway are razor-sharp mountainous peaks, hanging glaciers and ice falls. With no roads, there is no easy way to get there other than by private helicopter from Talkeetna or Anchorage. The retreat, with its five Nordic-style rooms, includes an open-plan living area and observation deck for aurora viewing.
All-inclusive for ten from 24,200 a night
Blachford Lake Lodge, Canada
Blachford Lake Lodge can be reached only by its own float plane, which leaves Yellowknife, three times a week. The interiors are rough and wooden, wim expansive windows for prime aurora viewing. During the day guests can head out on cross-country hikes, go snowshoeing and ice fishing or settle down around a benfire.
Doubles from 2,460, minimum three-night stay
Manshausen, Norway
On a private island in the Arctic Circle, Manshausen encourages guests to disconnect in the wilderness. The lodge's remoteness allows for some adventures, from ice diving and sea eagle-spotting to challenging hikes along the rough Nordskot range. “Three weeks ago, I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,” begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who runs a consulting business and lives inNew York. After an exchange with ChatGPT, it urged,“You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.”
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT for wellness advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform,ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Doctors and patients say AI is already having a profound impact on both the way that patients receive information about their health and practitioners’ ability to diagnose and communicate with their patients. Unlike doctors, ChatGPT has nearly unlimited time to engage in exhaustive inquiry with patients. Dave deBronkart, a cancer survivor, says he often hears stories about AI identifying symptoms that differentiate unusual or rare conditions from more common illnesses.
Recently, sixty-year-old Burt Rosen, who works in marketing for a local Oregon college, told AI he was experiencing migraines(偏头痛) after sleeping. AI asked him what position he was sleeping in and suggested he use two pillows instead of one. Pressure can build when lying flat, it explained, and cause migraines. Then, his headaches disappeared.
However, alongside these promising developments, the list of unanswered questions and potential hazards of using AI in medicine is long. As a consumer product, ChatGPT Health is not regulated by health privacy laws the way a medical provider's systems are in a clinical setting. When it comes to mental health, OpenAI is currently named in multiple active lawsuits involving charges of psychological harm, including suicide-related claims.
28. What is the main function of ChatGPT Health
A. Replacing traditional healthcare consultations.
B. Developing new medicines and treatment plans.
C. Training medical students in diagnosis and communication.
D. Providing a secure platform for sharing medical information.
29. Why is Burt Rosen's example mentioned
A. To illustrate how AI replaces doctors.
B. To argue AI only works for health issues.
C. To warn patients of seeking help from AI.
D. To show AI's ability to offer health advice.
30. What does the underlined word“hazards” refer to
A. Dangers. B. Solutions. C. Regulations. D. Opportunities.
31. What is the author's attitude towards the use of AI in healthcare
A. Opposed. B. Objective. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.

I left for America without a dramatic goodbye ——— no airport hugs, no family photos, and no one waiting at the gate. My parents, public servants in India, did not accenipany me, holding their heartbreak quietly so that their children can walk forward without hesitation.
When I reached London, my connecting flight was delayed. I spent the night on the airport floor with $1,300 in my account ———————— money meant to last until I found a job in America whose systems I did not yet understand. I was afraid but I knew I could not go back.
My first job in America began at 6:00 a. m. at Starbucks. I arrived by 5:30 a. m. every morning, walking alone through snow-covered streets in Rochester's winter darkness. For many international students, the classroom is only part of the education. The rest is survival: navigating immigration rules, managing finances under work-hour limits, adapting to unfamiliar systems, and living with the constant awareness that one mistake can undo years of effort. We do not have the luxury of being only a student. We are workers, students, immigrants, and emotional anchors for families across time zones ———— all at once.
Despite all the pressure, I stepped into leadership roles at Simon Business School. Yet, a peer told me if people had a choice, they would never choose me. That night, I made a decision.Instead of shrinking, I would outgrow every version of myself that other people found acceptable.I earned a STEM-designated degree. I began working with the New York State Department ofTaxation & Finance in a role built on trust, accountability, and long-term investment. My supervisors valued my work.
My journey is not exceptional. If this story resonates, it is because it mirrors thousands of others who wake up before sunrise, walk alone through winters and keep going quietly.
24. What can we infer about the author's parents
A. They couldn't afford a trip to the airport.
B. They hid their sadness to support the author.
C. They didn't back the author's decision to leave.
D. They showed no concern for the author's departure.
25. What is the author's purpose in writing paragraph 3
A. To complain about the unfair treatment.
B. To explain how to balance work and study.
C. To advise international students to work harder.
D. To share international students' struggles in America.
26. Which of the following best describes the author
A. Cautious and intelligent. B. Ambitious and sympathetic.
C. Hardworking and determined. D. Courageous and innovative.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Ouiet Courage, Steady Pace B. Snowy Streets, Broken Dreams
C. Hidden Struggles, Silent Tears D. A Lonely Journey, A Regretful Choice
D
A collection of jawbones, a leg bone, and a handful of vertebrae and teeth were found inMorocco recently. New research published in Nature dates these fossils (化石)—— discovered in a cave called Grotte à Hominidés ——— to about 773,000 years ago, during the era of the last common ancestor of modern humans, Neandertals and Denisovans.“We can say that the shared ancestry between these three species is perhaps in Grotte à Hominidés,” says study co-authorAbderrahim Mohib.
The first jawbono was discovered in 1969, with additional adult and child remains found in later years. Researchers weren't able to interpret these fossils until they figured out their age. The key to dating the fossils was a method called magnetostratigraphy, which depends on the fact thatEarth's magnetic field (磁场) changes direction every few hundred thousand years. The polarity change can be detected in iron-rich minerals, and there was a shift 773,000 years ago, which allowed the researchers to precisely determine when the sediments (沉积物) surrounding the fossils were laid down.
As to who these human bones belonged to, tiny features on them point to an in-between species ————— combining characteristics of older African Hominin species such as Homo erectus with those found in later African fossils and Eurasia specimens. This suggests that the Moroccan fossils represent something of an in-between species. They' re similar in age to a species fromSpain called Homo antecessor that had previously been suggested as a possible common ancestor of modern humans, Neandertals and Denisovans. However, the Grotte à Hominidés fossils are more of a mix of new and old.
“They display a combination of primitive and more advanced characteristics, indicating human populations close to this phase of separation,” Mohib says,“They confirm the very old origins of our species’ African roots and highlight North Africa’ s key role in the major stages of human evolution.”
32. What can be inferred from paragraph 1
A. The three species evolved independently in Morocco.
B. Grotte à Hominidés is the only habitat of ancient humans.
C. The fossils may relate to the three species’ common ancestor.
D. Modern humans came directly from Morocco's fossil remains.
33. How did researchers determine the age of the fossils
A. By analyzing the fossils’ chemical composition.
B. By comparing the fossils from different periods.
C. By counting sediment layers surrounding the fossils.
D. By detecting direction changes in Earth's magnetic field.
34. What do the features of the Moroccan fossils indicate
A. They are older than Homo antecessor.
B. They belong entirely to Homo erectus.
C. They have mixed ancient and later features.
D. They are just identical to Eurasian specimens.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The exact time of human separation.
B. The explanation of the fossils’ value.
C. North Africa's role in human evolution.
D. The mixed features of the Moroccan fossils.

Losing my entire right leg at 32 was going to be hard. I knew that. But two weeks before my biopsy(活检) results came in, I had a dream that my life on one leg would be filled with purpose, moving forward bravely and even fore-seeing the birth of a second son. I didn't tell anyone about the dream. I simply wrote these words in my journal:“I know I am going to lose my leg, and it's going to be okay.”
That dream was so vivid and reassuring that I walked into the doctor's office calmly and acceptably. It was December 22, 1987, and he wanted to operate before Christmas. I calmly asked if he could promise me another Christmas,“I want to spend Christmas and New Year with my family. And I want one more night of dancing on two legs with my husband. I' ve checked my calendar, and I'm free on January 6th. Will that work for you ” His mouth opened, but no words came out. Finally, he nodded,“I' ll make that work.”
After surgery, I recovered at a health centre, struggling with terrible pain and trying to regain my strength. One day, I decided to walk to a nearby store to buy myself some chocolate bars. Using my walking stick, I made my way to the candy aisle and noticed a tall man nearby. He was fixing a shelf and seemed to be observing me with a gentle expression. He looked like a worker there, wearing a uniform and holding a toolbox. When I tried to push open the door to leave, nothing happened. The door was too heavy. I looked up as hopelessness washed over me.“Really Is this what my life on one leg will be like ” Tears came to my eyes as frustration and sadness built inside me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
During that moment of absolute helplessness, the man approached me. His kindness gave me courage to face the hard days ahead.

第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
During that moment of absolute helplessness, the man approached me. Without hesitation, he gently took the chocolate bars from my trembling hand with a warm smile. His fingers were steady and easily pushed the heavy door open with one hand, holding the treat for me with the other. I thanked him with a shaky voice, my chest tight with a mix of gratitude and relief. Nodding softly, he murmured a few gentle words to tell me to take it easy and keep going.
His kindness gave me courage to face the hard days ahead. I no longer let frustration and pain hold me back, pushing myself harder in practicing walking and balancing. I repeated the movements countless times, falling down and getting back up again and again, with that stranger's gentle gesture always in my mind. Slowly, I learned to walk steadily without a walking stick, and eventually even danced with my husband again. Every small progress was a victory, and I knew my life on one leg, though tough, would be full of hope and meaning as the dream had foretold. (161词)

W: Don't worry. Look at that poster by the counter. It says you can rent a pair for just 50 yuan.
M: That sounds reasonable. Is there a deposit
W: Let me read the small print... Yes. you need to pay extra 300 yuan for each as a guarantee, but you will get it all back when you return them.
M: Okay, so I have to pay for two pairs now.

M: Hi, Lucy. Long time no see. How was your weekend
W: Pretty good. We picnicked in a new park near my home. It used to be an abandoned parking lot, but now it has been well designed: shade, benches, and a bike path. My grandpa stayed there reading and the kids rode bikes.
M: Nice. Urbanization here is no longer just about adding roads and towers; it's more about day-to-day livability.
W: True. In my neighborhood, the smart-city hotline is getting more responsive. I filed a report about a broken streetlight last night, and it was repaired before I left for work.
M: That makes sense. It feels like the city is paying more attention to small things now-both online and offline.Small projects can make a big difference.

W: Oh, Leo, you look surprisingly energetic after lunch.
M: Honestly. I took a nap When I first joined this Shanghai eompany,I couldn't get used to it. Around one o' clock, the lights go off and people rest.
W: In my country, if someone slept at work, people would say they were lazy or didn't take the job seriously.
M: I know. I used to feel embarrassed. But now I'm more productive. If I skip it, my afternoon is a mess——— slow thinking and silly mistakes.
W: So is napping just a thing in your office
M: Not at all. Even schools are taking it seriously too. Some now provide fold-out desks, so students can lie flat instead of just sleeping on their desks.
W: That must cost a lot.
M: Teachers say it's worth it. Students focus better in afternoon classes.
W: People in my country would still question it... but I can't deny it sounds effective.

Hi, thanks for taking my call. I'm a high school student. Since you' re discussing everyday habits, I want to share the" Analog Bag" challenge I tried this weekend to help with my phone habit. I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I often unlock it automatically when bored or stressed, and end up wasting time on social media. The challenge means carrying a small bag of screen-free items and using them instead of reaching for your phone. I kept my phone only for calls and urgent messages, avoiding entertainment apps. I packed a paperback, a notebook, pen, a puzzle, and an old camera. I almost brought a headset, but left it at home. I didn't pack a charger either———I wanted the bag non-digital. The first day was tough———I kept tapping my pocket out of habit. By Sunday it got easier. Our school counselor explained that fast content switches attention, while slower activities help the mind settle. It really helped me slow down, and my phone wasn't my first choice anymore.
