Sangeeta had imagined herself in a well-equipped classroom filled with eager students before she received her posting in a village school. However, this was not the case. Out of 130 children enrolled (已注册的), fewer than 30 attended the school regularly, and there were only three teachers in total, each one covering several subjects, often outside their own area of expertise.
After gathering her thoughts, Sangeeta decided to start with the attendance rate. “After school hours, I would go door to door in the afternoons. I sat with parents, explaining why education mattered, and why it was worth sending their children to school instead of making them work,” she shares. “It was a battle — I begged at times, I reasoned at others, and I kept asking them to send their children to school at least one more day. Slowly, attendance rose to 100 students. It wasn’t an easy victory.”
However, this promising period was short-lived, as Sangeeta soon discovered that traditional teaching methods seemed ineffective. “The children didn’t want to just sit and listen,” she recalls. “They brightened up when I told stories, sang songs, or played games with them.” Thus, she began using folk tales, riddles, and interactive activities to make learning enjoyable. Over time, the children started participating eagerly.
Additionally; Sangeeta often eats midday meals with her students, suggesting that when they see her eating from the same kind of plate, they feel she is one of them. During seasonal fevers, she keeps basic medicines in the staffroom. She adds that on days when rice is served, she avoids giving it to sick children since it is believed to aggravate (使加重) colds. Instead, she shares her light meal with them before giving medicine.
For Sangeeta, teaching has never been just a job; it is a mission. She says, “When I started, the classrooms were almost empty. Today, those are full of laughter and learning. That is my biggest reward.”
4. How might Sangeeta feel when she first arrived at the school
A. Hopeful. B. Disappointed. C. Inspired. D. Regretful.

A. Cautious and strict. B. Practical and honest.

Historically, education has always been a human-operated process. Teachers were responsible for delivering lessons, checking students’ grades, and managing classroom environments. However, the rise of digital technology led to the development of online learning platforms, digital classrooms, and online courses. And the combination of AI promises to take these advances to an entirely new level.
Every student has a unique learning style, speed, and set of strengths and weaknesses. Traditional education systems often struggle to meet these individual needs due to class size, limited resources, and the one-size-fits-all approach. AI could change that. With AI-driven learning platforms, students can work through material at their own speed. For example, platforms like Coursera, Khan Academy, and Duolingo use AI to analyze student progress and offer content, quizzes, and exercises made for them.
Traditionally, teachers are often busy with tasks such as grading, lesson planning, and tracking student progress. AI can ease this burden by automating (使自动化) many of these tasks, freeing up valuable time for teachers to focus on student engagement and instruction. For example, AI tools can grade homework, exams, and quizzes much faster than a human educator. This is especially valuable for large classes where individual grading might take days or even weeks. Moreover, AI can help teachers with lesson planning by analyzing vast amounts of educational content and suggesting resources that best match student learning needs.
With AI, students who have trouble with language, disabilities, or socio-economic challenges have more opportunities to receive education. AI-powered tools, such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Word, are developed to support students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. Moreover, AI tools are making it easier for students who can’t see or hear well. Text-to-speech, real-time translation, and sign language identification technologies can break down barriers for students who face challenges in traditional educational environments.
Looking ahead, AI’s role in education will continue to develop. As technology advances, we can expect AI to become part of learning platforms, making education more interesting and engaging.
8. What are AI platforms in paragraph 2 mentioned to show
A. AI’s aid in setting learning goals.
B. The rapid development of AI technology.
C. AI’s role in personalizing learning resources.
D. The comparative advantage of traditional education.
9. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. AI’s assistance to educators.
B. AI’s possibility of replacing teachers.
C. The importance of student engagement.
D. Teaching challenges in large classrooms.
10. What can we infer about AI-powered tools according to the text
A. They help lessen (减少) cultural differences.
B. They make education more accessible.
C. They need further technical improvements.
D. They make students’ school life more colourful.
11. What is the purpose of the text
A. To recommend AI tools and platforms.
B. To remind students of AI’s weaknesses.
C. To discuss the impact of AI on education.
D. To list the advantages of digital technology.

Most of us have experienced tooth sensitivity (敏感) — a truly unpleasant feeling caused by cold drinks or sweets — at some point in our lives. Now, researchers from India have published their research in Advaneed Scienee that describes how they developed special nanobots that could solve the dental (牙齿的) problem once and for all.
According to South First, the roots of tooth sensitivity lie in the hard tissue in teeth called dentine (the type of bone that our teeth are made of) underneath the hard enamel coating (牙釉质涂层). This layer contains tiny channels (通道,渠道) that lead directly to the teeth’s nerve endings. And so, when enamel wears down, the channels become exposed and any feeling — like those from drinking something very cold or eating something very sweet — will become intense.
In order to ease this uncomfortable feeling, many people use desensitizing toothpaste (牙膏), which only offers short-term relief. Seeking a more lasting solution, the researchers created CalBots, tiny nanobots that are applied to the tooth surface and guided by an external magnetic field into the dentine. There, they dig into the exposed channels and block them with a special bioceramic, cement (粘合剂)-like material, offering constant protection to the nerves and effectively relieving sensitivity.
As South First reports, researchers first tested CalBots on human teeth. Then they progressed to animal trials. It involved giving mice a choice between cold and room-temperature water. Healthy mice showed no preference, while the mice with tooth sensitivity completely shunned the cold water. However, just 20 minutes after receiving treatment with CalBots, the sensitive mice were freely drinking cold water, showing 100% behavioral recovery.
The significance of CalBots goes beyond relieving tooth sensitivity. They could protect teeth from bacteria and may be useful for treating dental injuries or inborn conditions. As clinical trials advance, experts believe this Indian-developed technology may soon become a standard part of dental practices worldwide.
12. Which type of teeth are most likely to be sensitive to cold drinks
A. Those with hardened dentine.
B. Those with weakened enamel.
C. Those lacking regular examinations.
D. Those relying on desensitizing toothpaste.
13. How do CalBots primarily work
A. By filling the exposed channels in dentine.
B. By repairing the damaged enamel coating.
C. By covering the teeth with protective materials.
D. By reshaping the structure of the nerve endings.
14. What does the underlined word “shunned” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Stored. B. Preferred. C. Poured. D. Avoided.
15. What can be inferred about CalBots from the last paragraph
A. They will have broader applications.
B. They will go through more experiments.
C. They will meet major technological advances.
D. They will replace traditional dental treatments.

Sleep inertia (惰性) is a short-term feeling of sleepiness you can experience after waking up from a short sleep or long sleep. Sleep inertia can cause both mental and physical symptoms (症状), such as experiencing slow reaction times and being in a bad mood. These symptoms are most noticeable immediately after waking up. ____16____ However, some people may experience sleep inertia symptoms for up to two hours.
When you sleep, your body cycles through several stages of sleep. ____17____ Sleep inertia seems to happen when this awakening process is disrupted (打断). Sleep inertia is more likely to happen when you’ve woken up suddenly from the deep sleep stage, or when you’ve woken up during the middle of the night.
____18____ One idea is that deep sleep brain waves haven’t weakened yet when you wake. Another possibility is that too much adenosine, a sleep chemical, builds up and causes sleepiness. Other experts think sleep inertia may also occur because sudden waking reduces blood flow to the brain.
Sleep inertia is common and considered to be a normal experience. But some people may be more likely to experience sleep inertia. For example, duty workers often experience sleep inertia due to irregular sleep schedules. And people with mental health issues like anxiety and depression, often experience sleep disorders. ____19____
To reduce sleep inertia, experts recommend improving your sleep habits. This involves following a regular sleep-wake schedule by going to bed and getting up at the same times every day. ____20____ If you nap during the day, keep the nap under 30minutes, as this helps avoid deep sleep and waking sleepiness.
A. These factors can make waking up harder.
B. Sleep inertia becomes less common with age.
C. In most cases, sleep inertia is a normal experience.
D. For most, sleepiness disappears within half an hour.
E. Your body needs time to adapt to waking up from sleep.
F. Experts have suggested some explanations for sleep inertia.
G. It also includes getting at least seven hours of sleep per night.

The sun was shining brightly during our PE class as we ran laps around the busy sports ground. With laughter and cheers all around me, I took a short break near the field’s edge to catch my breath. It was then that I heard a faint (微弱的) mewing sound. Following the sound, I finally spotted a tiny kitten. (猫咪幼崽) It looked scared and hurt, its leg twisted (扭曲) at a strange angle.
“Hey, guys! Come here!” I called out to my classmates. They gathered around, their faces filled with concern. “We need to help it,” said Sarah. We all agreed .Carefully, I picked up the kitten, feeling its tiny body shake in my hands. It was so small and weak.
We decided to seek help from our kind PE teacher, Mr. Johnson. “Mr. Johnson, we found this poor kitten, and it seems badly hurt,” I said, holding it out to him. He looked at the kitten and then at us, a serious expression crossing his face. “Let me call the school nurse Mrs. Thompson,” he said.
Before Mrs. Thompson came, we quickly made a makeshift stretcher (临时担架) using a towel and two sticks, and gently placed the kitten on it with Mr. Johnson’s direction. A moment later, Mrs. Thompson came running with a first aid kit. As she examined the kitten, we all held our breath. “It looks like it has a broken leg,” she said. “We need to get it to the animal hospital immediately.” Mr. Johnson nodded and told us to go back to the classroom after the PE class was over. Then, he and Mrs. Thompson took the kitten to the vet (兽医)
For the rest of the day, we could think of nothing but the kitten and hoped it would be fine.
Paragraph 1:
Before the school was over, Mr. Johnson returned to the classroom with a big smile on his face.
