Be Smart Online Learners
Good morning, everyone,
It’s my great honor to share my views about being smart online learners.
Learning online has become popular these days. On the one hand, it provides us great convenience to study and saves us lots of time. On the other hand, it does unavoidable harm to our eyesight. What’s worse, it’s really hard for those lacking self-control to acquire what they want.
As far as I’m concerned, we should make a practical learning plan, create an appropriate environment for learning, and above all have strict self-discipline. Only in this way can we make the network serve us to the most extent.
Thank you!
【答案】 Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him. Tom, initially groggy, soon perked up at the idea of surprising their mother. Together, they quickly tidied up the living room, putting away the scattered clothes and sweeping the floor. Jane also prepared a simple breakfast, while Tom decorated the room with colorful balloons and a handmade banner that read “Happy Birthday, Mum!” They worked together seamlessly, their excitement growing with each passing minute.
“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door. Their mother, taken aback by the sight of the clean room and the festive decorations, was moved to tears. She hugged them tightly, thanking them for their thoughtful surprise. Just then, the doorbell rang, and the cake arrived. As they all sat down to enjoy the breakfast and the cake, their mother said, “This is the best birthday ever! I’m so lucky to have such wonderful children.”2025-2026学年江西赣州市第一中学3月高一英语学科质量检测试题

A group of middle-aged dads formed a dance team to perform at their kids’ school but unexpectedly gained popularity on social media, having over 300,000 followers-one of them is famous actor Hugh Jackman. The “Outta” Puff Daddys first came together in 2012 in Brighton for a surprise performance at their children’s annual dance show.
Having never danced as a job before and ranging in age from 42 to 60, the dads were taught by their kids’ street dance teacher for the surprise performance. They received a good reception, so they decided to carry on permanently.
Paul Jukes, 48, said dancing together has enabled the members to get through unemployment and anxiety. “Even though I’m the leader and artistic director of the team, I’m not normally the most confident guy,” said Jukes, whose team name is Jukebox. “If we’re in a party situation, we’re off at the side, but when we’re together, those inhibitions(拘束感) are lost, and we just accept life to the fullest.”
The dance team members remember the moment when they surprised their kids at the dance show. “We performed at the Brighton Dome which seats 2,000 people, so for our first live dance performance, it was quite something. We took the roof off,” Jukes said. “The noise was crazy and of course, the kids in the audience were blown away. They were shouting, ‘Hang on a second; that’s your dad.’ Most people might think our kids would be embarrassed by us but none of them had that feeling. All our families and kids were really supportive and really loved it. And it has been considered cool by them to have such a large following on Instagram.” The team has to adapt to its members’ changing bodies as they get older, but that has not stopped them from continuing to dream big, which sets a good example to their kids.
4. What’s special about the dance team
A. It helps with school dance instructions.
B. Its members are all inexperienced.
C. It regularly posts videos on social media.
D. Its members are guided by famous dancers.
5. How has the dance team influenced Paul Jukes
A. It has inspired him to take up new hobbies.
B. It has improved his health and leadership skills.
C. It has helped him build confidence in a tough time.
D. It has strengthened his relationship with his family.
6. How did the kids react to their dads’ dance performance
A. They were amazed and proud of their dads.
B. They were embarrassed but showed understanding.
C. They considered following Jukebox on social media.
D. They joined their dads to complete the performance together.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Dancing is beneficial to people of all ages.
B. Talented dads celebrate their kids’ interest.
C. A dance team is winning popularity among adults.
D. A dance team consisting of middle-aged dads goes popular.
C
There are over 6, 000 languages spoken in the world. But did you know that some of them are in danger of dying out From Dusner (three speakers) to Kelabit (five thousand), these languages are spread all over the world, but they all have one thing in common: unless we act soon, they could become extinct (灭绝的).
Researchers at Oxford University are studying these languages. And Dr. Johanneke Sytsema, who has organized a popular seminar (研讨会) on endangered languages, thinks there could be a magic bullet for keeping minority (少数的) languages alive: social media. “Social media could help save language,” Dr. Sytsema says. “Because young people text each other in the same way they speak, even if they don’t know how to spell it.”
Minority languages are often at risk of being drowned out (压过) by the louder voices of the bigger languages, which are spoken at school and in the media. But, with social media giving control to the users, the popularity of social media like TikTok might just have the opposite effect.
Dr. Sytsem a has first-hand experience: she speaks Frisian. Frisian, spoken in a province in the Netherlands called Friesland, has 350, 000 speakers. Using her own language has given Dr. Sytsema food for thought about how languages could be saved in the future. “In Friesland, young people who don’t learn much Frisian writing at school send each other messages on social media in Frisian,” she says. In this way, a new generation of Frisian speakers keeps the language alive.
According to Dr. Sytsema, our languages, like our wildlife, are natural creations. “Natural beauty needs to be protected. Once languages die, you don’t get them back, because they’ve grown over thousands and thousands of years,” Dr. Sytsem a explains. “Every language has its own beauty. And that’s why it’s so important.”
8. Why does the author mention Dusner and Kelabit
A. To describe the richness of human language.
B. To discuss the influence of language on culture.
C. To explain the importance of cultural exchange.
D. To show the serious situation of endangered languages.
9. What do the underlined words “a magic bullet” mean in paragraph 2
A. A challenging task. B. An effective solution.
C. An open standard. D. A common goal.
10. What gave Dr. Sytsema the idea of language protection
A. Teaching at a language school. B. The popularity of Frisian on TikTok.
C. Her personal experience with Frisian. D. Working with young people in Friesland.
11. What message does Dr. Sytsema want to give us in the last paragraph
A. A language is well worth saving.
B. Society is shaping human language.
C. The extinction of languages can be avoided.
D The young hold the key to language protection.

The Yellow River is the cradle where China’s civilization first came into being. And flood control and prevention have always been key to the well-being of the people living along it. Now, scientists can better work on these issues by giving the river a digital twin.
The digital twin of the Yellow River uses various technologies, including big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Instruments set up along the river collect and transfer information to the center. Based on the information, a 3D model of the river is presented on the computer screen. It’s like the Yellow River has a twin that reflects its real conditions.
One big breakthrough in the river’s digital management is “smart stones”. According to Wang Qin, a lead researcher at the Information Center of Yellow River in Henan Province, a smart stone is a water-proof stone-shaped instrument with chips, a battery, and a signal transmitter. They are buried in important dike (堤坝) locations to record and report the movement of dike stones. “Upon feeling movement of the dike stones, the smart stone sends an alarm to the center for quick response,” Wang said.
“In the past, researchers had to learn the conditions of the dike on the spot by themselves, putting their lives at risk,” said Zhao Xiao, an official from the Information Center of Yellow River in Henan Province. “Now the smart stones can do this for us, more safely, quickly, and accurately.”
And in the sky, drones (无人机) are flying. On the routes designed by engineers, the drones become expert monitors of the river, looking at its dikes and flood prevention projects. According to Shen Lin from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, thanks to the drones, researchers at the command center can get first-hand photos and information. “Researchers then update the 3D model according to the changes the drones reported. The new updated model helps us test our floodwater release plans in case we ever need to batten down the hatches (未雨绸缪),” said Shen.
Under the water and up in the sky, intelligence systems are helping to protect the Yellow River Basin on all fronts. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, in the future, we can expect to see the construction of an even more comprehensive digital system for this important river.
12. What is the main purpose of creating a digital twin of the Yellow River
A. To conduct historical research.
B. To create a virtual tourist attraction.
C. To raise public awareness of river protection.
D. To improve flood control and prevention efforts.
13. How do the smart stones contribute to the river’s digital governance
A. They record water quality.
B. They improve the river’s beauty.
C. They monitor and report dike movements.
D They serve as markers for important locations.
14. What can we infer about the drones’ role in the digital twin system
A. They are mainly used to test floodwater release plans directly.
B. They provide key information for updating the 3D model.
C. They work independently without following preset routes.
D. They replace the need for on-site researchers entirely.
15. What is the text mainly about
A. The digital twin of the Yellow River.
B. The drones have an important influence on flood prevention.
C. How to control and prevent flood of the Yellow River.
D. How to make the people living along the Yellow River richer.

When the shrill (尖锐的) ring of the phone echoed (回响) through the living room, Jane was still sleeping. She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was already nine o’clock! Though still sleepy, Jane knew she had to get up because her mother had been working in her office day and night for several days, and she couldn't expect her younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the phone. She quickly put on a coat and dashed into the living room. As she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, “Good morning, my dear!” It was the voice of her father, a seaman who seldom returned home due to his duties, earning money to support the family. On hearing her father’s voice, Jane’s sleepiness disappeared.
“Good morning, Dad. Why are you calling so early on a weekend ” Jane asked, pretending to be slightly annoyed. “Tom and I have been very nice recently.” “My dear, today is your mother’s birthday. I have ordered a cake online and it will arrive at our doorstep in the late morning. Do remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother.” Upon hearing her father’s words, Jane felt a twinge of embarrassment. How could she have forgotten such an important day!
While chatting with her father, Jane’s eyes wandered around the room, and she saw a lot of dirty clothes scattered (散落) on the sofa. The floor hadn't been cleaned for a few days, since her mother had been too busy with work to deal with such housework. Looking at the clock again, Jane realized she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her mother. “Well, Dad, now I'm going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!” Jane said and hung up the telephone.
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him.
