Have you ever read a book and imagined the characters speaking in a different language That’s exactly what happened when a famous Chinese novel was turned into an Englishlanguage opera.
The novel, written over two hundred years ago, tells the story of a large family and its rise and fall. It has hundreds of characters, but the opera writer decided to focus on only a few main characters. By doing this, he made the story easier for international audiences to understand.
