Yesterday, a salesman called me by phone, on behalf of a telecom company, to sell his phone plans. I
was at work and I usually didn’t like telemarketing (电话销售), so I excused myself that I couldn’t talk yet
and said he could call me back one hour later, at 6:00 p.m.
That’s what he did. So we talked for 15 minutes. He explained to me his different phone plans, which he
stated to be better than my current one. While listening to him, sometimes I was lost in my thoughts and I
gave several “hmm hmm” as a sign of agreement to convince him that I was still there. Sometimes, I felt a
bit impatient, especially as he had difficulty in correctly talking in French. But I stayed calm and polite until
the end of the discussion.
At the end of the conversation, he revealed (袒露) the following to me: “Thank you, Linda. You are the
first person in a long time with whom I had an enjoyable conversation. Usually, people shout at us, speak to
us rudely, and treat us as thieves. Today, since 10:00 a.m., I hadn’t had a conversation without an offense. I
know you had a long day at work and you could have relaxed in front of your TV. Instead, you listened
carefully to me. I sincerely thank you. I wanted to tell it to you.”
I thanked him for this revelation. I realized how much he could have been the subject of verbal violence,
all through his working days. Unfortunately, the telephone enables the customers to have such aggressive
behavior. Indeed, physical barriers do not exist in this situation and a kind of dehumanization (非人性化)
seems to happen. I am also conscious that those people getting impatient could have been me. Yet, he was
only doing his job and he shouldn’t have suffered from the violence.
24. Why did the author let the salesman call back later
A. She meant to refuse him at once.
B. She showed interest in his phone plans.
C. She hoped for more about telemarketing.
D. She wanted to use the way to discourage him.
25. How can we describe the author during the 15-minute talk
A. Patient. B. Careful.
C. Kind of absent-minded. D. Obviously impolite.
26. What did the salesman intend to express in Paragraph 3
A. His deep apology. B. His true appreciation.
C. His anger at misunderstanding. D. His sufferings in telemarketing.
27. What does the underlined part “verbal violence” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. Unkind spoken words. B. Physical barriers.
C. Salesmen’s impatience. D. Customers’ Humanization.

When Benjamin Cherkasky was in eighth grade, he quit the swim team. It wasn’t because he lacked the
passion; he just couldn’t accept failures in matches.
A US therapist who researches perfectionism at Northwestern University realized years later what had
happened. Cherkasky’s perfectionism was creating unrealistic standards. Unable to meet them, he quit.
“My perfectionism contributed to very high expectations, and that caused real suffering,” he said.
Cherkasky is not alone in feeling that perfectionism can cause anxiety. So many millennials (千禧一代)
suffer from the ills of perfectionism that psychologists are issuing warnings and schools are pointing up the
need to accept failure.
Northwestern had held several lectures that offered tips on how students could deal with a perfectionism
problem.
Jessica Rohlfing Pryor, a psychologist leading the events, said every generation is a sponge (海绵) for
the messages it receives. “Millennials, more than any other generation in American society, are receiving
clear messages around achieving,” she said. “There’s an absence of messaging that trying your hardest is still
OK.”
Researchers also mentioned that social media adds comparative pressure, along with the drive to earn
money and achieve career goals. Perfectionists often create even higher goals, which can lead to a higher risk
of failure.
In college, Cherkasky found himself surrounded by so many intelligent people that he felt he should
have been achieving a higher level than he was. “It makes you feel kind of crazy,” he said.
This type of thinking can lead people to putting in less effort, which, as they fall behind, can create
more anxiety. “It makes people feel kind of isolated.” And that, Cherkasky added, “can cause students to
move away from their school”.
Northwestern is not the only school eager to help students.
Brown University includes perfectionism in its advising services, asking students if they ever feel that
what they achieve isn’t good enough.
28. What was the real factor for Cherkasky to quit the swim team
A. Little passion. B. Frequent matches.
C. High expectations. D. Changeable standards.
29. Why do researchers think millennials suffer more from perfectionism
A. They own the same social goal. B. They’re forced to accept failure.
C. They go for success with little effort. D. They’re troubled by achieving more.
30. What advice can be good for perfectionists from the text
A. Avoiding social media. B. Lowering their risk of failure.
C. Doing their best is good enough. D. Giving up school is acceptable.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Battling Perfectionism B. Tolerating Perfectionism
C. Experiencing Failure D. Enjoying Achievement

From a knife cutting through glass-like fruits to a woman eating a bowl of lava (岩浆), thousands of
AI-made ASMR videos are taking over social media platforms around the world.
The term ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (自发性知觉经络反应). It is a
sensory experience caused by a wide range of sights and sounds, which brings a pleasant and relaxing
tingling feeling (刺痒感 ) in the head and neck. Some of the most common ASMR triggers come from
watching and listening to people doing simple, everyday tasks, such as turning the pages of a book or cutting
soap. Sounds like water running and whispering can also set off strong ASMR effects.
“After a long day, watching a few of these videos helps me wind down and get into a relaxed mindset
due to the calming sounds and triggers,” an ASMR fan told Open Influence, a global influencer marketing
agency.
While some enjoy watching ASMR videos, others complain about them because many use
nonrecyclable materials, such as sponges (海绵) and confetti (五彩纸屑), which create new environmental
problems. That’s one reason why AI ASMR is becoming popular today.
Beyond reducing waste, AI is a powerful tool for making ASMR content more polished and more fun to
watch. ASMR has been popular for more than a decade, so many viewers have become less easily affected
after watching similar content for so long. However, AI ASMR offers something new, giving experiences that
go beyond their imagination and bring a fresh feeling to watching ASMR videos.
Pushed by the constant search for new content, social media platforms have seen a wave of strange and
eye-catching videos in recent months: glass hamburgers, crispy planets, seas made of soda — all created by
AI. The way these fake things look so real, combined with relaxing sounds, creates an addictive “cycle”
among viewers, making them want to keep watching and sharing.
The website Value Your Network wrote that AI-made ASMR shows the fun of cutting-edge technology
and the way online networks influence changes in society and technology.
32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The origin and popularity of the termASMR. B. The definition and common triggers of ASMR.
C. The scientific explanation of howASMR works.
D. The reasons why ASMR makes people feel relaxed.
33. Why do some people criticize traditional ASMR videos
A. Their production cost is too high. B. Their visual and auditory effects are bad.
C. Their content lacks creativity and originality.
D. Their materials used in them harm the environment.
34. Which of the following best describes AI ASMR
A. Sustainable and innovative. B. Addictive and risky.
C. Educational and informative. D. Time-saving and rewarding.
35. What can be inferred about AI ASMR from the last paragraph
A. It will lose popularity sooner or later. B. It combines tech fun, art and social impact.
C. It prioritizes entertainment over real-life value. D. It focuses on changes in society and technology.

Learning how to apologize is similar to learning any new behavior. It may feel awkward and may not be
polished at first. 36 There are several tips that will help you as you learn how to apologize.
First of all, wait until the right time and you are in the right place. Although public apology is often
appropriate, discretion (谨慎) should be used. 37 Remember, you will be raising a topic that may
recall a bad experience or bad feelings. Be respectful as you approach this task.
Be direct and brief in your approach. Acknowledge the fact that injury has occurred and then take
responsibility for what happened. Be sincere in expressing your regret and demonstrate your willingness to
take ownership of the situation. 38
Even if you follow these steps, be prepared for rejection. Sometimes, the person apologizing has an
expectation that the apology will lead to immediate forgiveness and acceptance. 39 If you think of
the offense (冒犯) as an emotional bruise (瘀伤), think of the healing process as the color changes we see as
a bruise heals.
40 Knowing when to keep one’s mouth shut is a virtue. Keeping quiet may be very difficult,
as post-apology listening is not easy. We may hear unpleasant observations from another about our own
shortcomings. We may hear the expression of anger. One of the ways we let others know we are truly
responsible and accountable for our mistakes is by listening to the other party pour out the feelings
associated with our actions.
A. Forgiveness and acceptance may take time.
B. To give or receive a good apology is an art.
C. But with practice, everyone can learn to do it.
D. Listening to the response to our apologies is important.
E. Most apologies can and should happen in a private setting.
F. In other words, avoid excuses and offer to repair the damage.
G. Taking responsibility doesn’t mean accepting blame for everything.

第二节 读后续写(满分 25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
PE classes weren’t always easy for Eva. While her classmates raced across the sports field or scored
basketball points, Eva often fell behind. She wasn’t as fast or as agile (敏捷的), and she’d always shrink to
the sidelines, pretending to tie her shoelaces just to avoid attention.
One day, during a timed running test, Eva stumbled and fell hard on the track. She managed to stand up
and kept running, but still failed to pass in the end. When the PE teacher announced the grades, a few
students laughed, and Eva’s cheeks burned with humiliation (羞辱).
Later that afternoon, when Eva went to the restroom, she heard her classmate Sandra say, “Bet Eva can’t
even finish one lap without gasping like a fish.” The other students agreed, adding more hurtful comments.
Tears welled up in Eva’s eyes, and all she wanted was to disappear.
That evening, Eva’s mother noticed something was wrong because Eva had eaten almost nothing. After
some gentle questions, Eva finally told her mother what had happened. Her mother listened quietly, then
hugged her and said, “Everyone has their own pace, Eva. What matters isn’t how fast you run, but that you
never give up.”
The next day after school, Eva’s mother surprised her with a pair of bright red running shoes. “Let’s
train together,” she suggested with a smile. At first, Eva was hesitant. The thought of running again filled her
with anxiety, but the look of encouragement on her mother’s face gave her the courage to say yes. Then they
laced up their shoes and stepped outside. From that day on, they jogged around their neighborhood almost
every afternoon. Although Eva grew tired in the beginning, her mother always cheered her on. “You’re doing
great! One step at a time!” Slowly, Eva’s stamina (耐力) improved, and she even began to enjoy their runs.
