时事热点时代变迁-阅读理解
This September I had the chance to come to China for the first time and visited Yunnan Province.
On the first day, we went to a village named Xiaopingzhai. I was amazed to discover that a small tea factory could bring in 6 million yuan a year with only 20 workers.
The next stop of our trip was the village of Kangmian. The new village has 450 housing units. There I have learned that the government helps the people by providing (提供) jobs so that they can support themselves. Of the 1,331 villagers, 609 now have jobs.
In Shuiduichong, a traditional Yao ethnic group (瑶族) village, we visited the workshops for making silver ornaments (银饰品). We discovered the skill and a history of more than 200 years. Besides the traditional use of silver ornaments in Yao culture, these objects have a high value.
A set of silver ornaments can be sold for between 10,000 and 20,000 yuan on the market. The making of silver ornaments creates jobs in the village, Shuiduichong now has more than 20 family workshops.

In 2012, Zheng Yuxiao set up a photography team together with his schoolmates. They decided to take pictures for villagers during vacations. The team first went to a village in Liupanshui city and took over 400 pictures for the villagers and were warmly received by the locals.
“Some elderly people and children had never had photos of themselves taken before. After they saw their pictures for the first time, their eyes were filled with joy,” said Zheng.
To keep the project going, the students made money in their spare time by collecting and selling used books and bottles.
In 2023, Zheng met Wang Linhui, a villager who he had taken pictures of years ago and found that the village had gone through great changes over the past years. In one family photo, Wang and her two children were standing in front of their shabby (破旧的) house.
“At that time, my family was poor. Now I can get 20,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan a year, and my husband can get more, which is enough to support the family,” Wang said.
“My house was built five years ago. It is bright and comfortable,” Wang told Zheng.
Every year when students graduate and leave the team, younger students join in it. Today, the students have come to realize that the pictures not only read many happy moments, but also show the changes in these poor areas towards a bright future.

①Living in China has made me realize how convenient life can be. It’s much better than I ever thought.
②The moment I came to this country, a wave of pleasant surprise washed over me. The public transport system, especially in its big cities like Beijing and Shanghai, is great. The subway networks cover every part of the big cities. People can avoid the traffic jams and get to where they want to go much faster. High-speed trains that connect cities like Beijing and Shanghai in less than five hours are another example of China’s wonderful transportation system.
③Another great thing that stands out in China is the availability (可用性) of services. If my bike is broken and needs a repairman, or if I want to have daily needs, electronics or even medicine, I just need to make a phone call or click on my phone a few times. Since everything is available online, I no longer have to go far to the supermarket or the store. It is one of the key reasons I’ve stayed in China for so long—something I’ve never experienced in any other country.
④What’s more, China’s convenience doesn’t only lie in the speed of services, but also in their user- friendliness. The whole system is designed with user experience in mind. It means you don’t need to spend time learning how to use the systems. This makes it easy for everyone to get things done without difficulties.

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they ” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples.
