Dear Sun Meng,
In your last email, you asked me what you should do when you are under stress and have worries. One good
way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.
Try using a worry box
1. Make a special box
Use colourful things and pictures to make your worry box.
Here is a picture of my worry-eating monster box!
2. Write down your worries
Take some pieces of paper and write down your worries.
3. Rate (评价) your worries and store (储存) them in the box
If you like, place each worry on a scale (等级) from 1 to 10.1 means “a little worried” and 10 means “the most
worried”. For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rate “losing my new bike” as a 2 and “getting bad
grades in the maths exam” as a 7.
4. Talk it out
Be sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can
find the ways to deal with them.
Remember that it’s not healthy to carry worries around in your head. The worry box provides a good place to
“share” your worries. By using it, you’ll learn to deal with your worries.
Yours,
Anna
26. What did Sun Meng probably write in her last email to Anna
A. She shared her ways to deal with worries. B. She asked for advice.

A. A box for storing worries. B. A box for keeping pictures.
C. A box for keeping grades. D. A box for making paper.
28. How did Anna feel about getting bad grades in the maths exam
A. Not worried. B. A little worried C. Quite worried. D. The most worried.
29. What does Anna advise Sun Meng to do after putting the worries into the box
A. To rate them with parents. B. To discuss them with parents.
C. To forget about them and leave them there. D. To share them with friends.
30. What is the main idea of the email
A. How to get good grades in exams. B. How to communicate with parents.
C. How to deal with stress and worries. D. How to rate the worries.

①PUA means “Pick-up Artist”. It started for people who used clever ways to influence their interactions (交
流) with others, especially between lovers. This idea develops, and now it also means people use tricks to control
others in the workplace and online. It’s very helpful to know about PUA because it can deeply influence how you
feel about your self-improvement. Here are some common actions to be careful of.
②Sometimes people who use PUA tricks criticize a lot. One of the tricks is that they might tell you that you’
re always doing things wrong. It is just a way to make you feel sorry about yourself instead of helping you improve.
They may also try to keep you away from your friends and family. This makes you depend on them, and gives
them more control over you.
③Another trick is called gaslighting (煤气灯效应). For example, you remember something clearly, but they
keep saying it didn’t happen. They hope you aren’t sure what you know is true.
④To avoid PUA, there are several steps you can take. First, learn to tell what healthy friendships and
relationships look like. Being confident is also important because it will be not so easy for others to trick you
Besides, you shouldn’t be scared to say no when something feels wrong. What’s more, talking to someone you trust
like a teacher can be very useful.
⑤Knowing these signs and how to deal with them can help you have better relationships. It’s like building a
strong foundation (基础) for happy and healthy relationships as you get older.

C. the way to control others D. the interaction between lovers
32. Which of the following sentences shows the underlined word “criticize”
A. If you have any problems, you can ask me for help.
B. Sorry, it didn’t happen. I think you didn’t remember well.
C. You are always making mistakes! Nothing you do is ever right!
D. Keep away from your friend, or you will become a bad student too.
33. What is the main topic of Paragraph 4
A. How to use PUA to control other people.
B. Reasons why students should never use PUA tricks.
C. What healthy friendships and relationships look like.
D. Suggestions on how to keep yourself safe from PUA.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. PUA only appears in romantic relationships between lovers.
B. People may use PUA to control others at work or on the Internet.
C. PUA can help you get on better with others as you grow up.
D. PUA will change what other people think about your self-improvement.
35. Which of the following show the structure of the text
A. B. C. D.

Hey, kids! Sleep is important! You might have heard this before. Scientists found out that sleep helps you
grow strong and keeps you from getting sick. And guess what A new study shows sleep also works on your grades.
The scientist, Jeffrey Grossman, wanted to see how sleep helps students in school. He asked 100 students to
wear a special wristband (腕带) called Fitbit. This cool thing can tell how long you sleep and if you wake up a lot
during the night. The students wore these wristbands all term long, and at the end, Grossman looked at their sleep
information.
He found some interesting things. As expected, kids who tossed and turned (辗转反侧) a lot at night didn’t do
well on their tests. The same went for those who didn’t get enough sleep. ★ Whether you sleep more or
less during the night before the test does nothing to your grades! So is staying up studying before the big test okay
No!!! What really mattered was sleeping the same hours every night for a week or even a month before the test.
“That means a student who sleeps seven hours at night, every night, will do better than a student who sleeps 7.5
hours one night and 6.5 another night,” Grossman said. This was really unexpected!
How long you sleep, how well you sleep, and sleeping the same hours every night together made a big
difference to your test scores (分数). And it appeared especially important for boys. Grossman’s team is not sure
why. But boys who didn’t sleep well or fell asleep at different times did worse on tests than girls who had the same
sleep. These findings show that sleep is really important for students to study well in school. And knowing how to
get good sleep can make a big difference!
36. According to the passage, Fitbit can ______.
A. help you fall asleep easily B. fix your sleeping problem
C. tell how well you sleep D. make you sleep longer
37. What BIG question does Paragraph 2 answer
A. How long should we sleep B. How did Grossman do the study
C. Why is sleep so important D. What did Grossman find
38. Which of the following can be put in ★
A. And here’s a big surprise B. And we know little about those
C. Sleeping well comes first D. So make sure you get enough sleep
39. According to the study, which line chart may be from the student with the best grade
A. B.
C. D.
40. What would the writer write about after the last paragraph
A. The result of the study. B. The way to get better sleep.
C. The importance of sleep. D. The difference between boys and girls.
