Want to eat healthier Maybe a new type of rice can help you!
Chinese scientists had used gene editing (基因编辑) to
create a special type of rice that produces CoQ10.
What exactly is CoQ10 It's a special thing that our bodies
make.It also helps us stay healthy and is especially good for our
hearts. As we get older, our bodies make less of it,so having extra CoQ10 in our food can be
really good for us.Usually, rice and other plants don't make much CoQ10.Instead,they make
something called CoQ9.
After studying more than 1,000 plant kinds and using machine learning technology, the
scientists used gene editing to create a new type of rice that can make CoQ10.
英语试题 第 4 页 共 8 页
Their study also showed that the new rice grows just as well as common rice.According to
the study's co-author Xu Jinjing,this rice stays healthy even when it's cooked.That means we'll
get the health benefits when we eat it.
If you eat this special CoQ10 rice every day,you can get about 1 to 2 milligrams (毫克)
of CoQ10.That's almost the same amount you'd get from eating meat! So,this new rice can be a
great addition to our daily diets.
Another Chinese scientist,Zhao Qing, said that their research not only helps us understand
how plants have changed over thousands of years, but also shows us new ways to improve other
crops (农作物) using similar techniques.

C.Common rice can also make much CoQ10.
D.The new technology may help improve other crops.
35.What is the main idea of the passage

第四节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下列短文,根据内容,完成表格中所缺的信息。
We are often told to pay attention to what our mothers tell us.
Most of us enjoy listening to our mothers'voices.Scientists have
found that our brains like our mothers'voices better than other
people's voices.
Scientists at Stanford University,US,studied this. They tested children's brains while they
were listening to different sounds, including their mothers'voices. They found that 97 percent of
the time, children could know their mothers'voices at once.
英语试题 第 7 页共 8 页
Hearing their mothers'voices makes children's brains more active. We usually just use one
part of our brain to deal with sounds when we hear something. But when we hear our mothers'
voices, many parts of the brain, including those in charge of( 负 责 )happiness and feelings, start
to work as well.
Why do we feel so strongly about our mothers'voices It starts even before we're born.
When children are still in the womb ( 子 宫 ) or have just been born, they hear their mothers
talking. This makes babies feel comfortable and teaches them language and social skills, even
though they are still very young. The babies learn to know their mothers'voices as a nice sound.
Later, when this sound is heard again, more attention is paid to it.
Some sounds are necessary for our lives or bring us pleasure. These sounds are seen by our
brains as good sounds. Most human voices are not seen in this way, since we hear them so often.
But mothers'voices are different. They bring us a lot of comfort.
