Many cities in China are using AI technology to make government work easier. From Hohhot in Inner Mongolia to Guangzhou in Guangdong, AI systems are working on things from paperwork to public services.
On February 16th, 2025, Shenzhen, a technology city in southern China, became one of the latest cities to put AI technology into use. The city started using AI services in different administrative (行政) areas and offices. In Futian, 70 AI-driven “public servants” now work in 11 key administrative areas.
These AI systems are trained for certain jobs and different departments. They now manage different kinds of administrative processes, including dealing with papers, providing public services, helping in emergencies (突发事件), and attracting business. For example, when doing paperwork, AI can finish the task in seconds when necessary information is provided. According to some reports, document preparation now takes minutes instead of days. The accuracy rate (正确率) is over 95%. This rate saves 90% of the checking time!
AI is playing a role in government work, but officials say it’s here to help humans, not to take humans’ place. Every AI system in Futian has a special person who watches it with care. The person’s work is to prevent mistakes and keep things fair. Experts believe AI will keep growing in public services. Good models will help more cities in the future.

Imagine you can have phone calls with your favorite star. Is it exciting AI humans (虚拟人) might help with it. Today, AI humans are popular around the world.
As we all know, AI humans now can be like real people. They can do real people’s voices and moves and even copy their characters which include different feelings. But what else can they do And what can only be done by humans but not AI
Digital (数字) humans today appear in many ways. They can be idols (偶像), reporters and more. For example, China Daily has its own digital reporter, Yuanxi. She can speak English and cover the wonderful world of Chinese culture. She can process data (数据) fast and this can help the newsrooms work faster. In February 2022, Baidu showed its first digital idol Xi Jiajia. She can change her makeup and how she dresses. During China Fashion Week, Xi Jiajia became famous in an online virtual fashion show.
But AI humans have their disadvantages. Take Yuanxi as an example, she still doesn’t have much human touch and high EQ like us. These are something that only a real human can have. What’s more, AI humans can’t team up and communicate with others in real time. As Yuanxi wrote, “AI humans show the power of AI, but they are not a replacement for real humans.”

Since computers were invented in the USA in the 1950s, they have become very important in many areas of work and leisure. There is no doubt that computers are very useful in technology and business.
In space, computers have been used to control the speed and direction of a spaceship. With the help of computers, doctors can find diseases easily and solve other problems. For example, tiny computers which are inside patients’ bodies can keep their hearts beating normally. In factories, robots are controlled by computers that are like human brains. They can do work that is dangerous to humans. In business, computers are used to place and cancel orders. They are also making the workplace safer and better.
Since the internet came into being, people’s lives at home have been changed, too. More and more people have personal computers that are used to search for information and watch movies. Thanks to the internet, people can do shopping and do business at home. Instead of writing letters on paper, people communicate by sending e-mails and chatting online. The whole world is connected. The internet is making the world smaller, like a village.
Computers have improved our lives, but they have brought problems, too. For instance, if we work on computers too long, we may get headaches or sore eyes, and we won’t have enough time to study or exercise. Besides, not everything we read on the internet is true or good for puters help us at work and at home, but they must be used properly.

①AI is used in many ways to make our lives better. For example AI-powered robots can help doctors perform surgeries with more precision. AI can also help teachers by giving special lessons to students based on their learning speed and style. In our homes, smart speakers and home assistants can control lights, play music, and even tell us the weather.
②However, when it comes to disinformation (虚假信息), “Social media took the cost of spreading to zero, and AI takes the cost to zero,” says Renée DiResta of the Stanford Internet Observatory. Large language models such as GPT-4 make it easy to produce misleading news articles or social-media posts in a huge number.
③And AI can produce more than text. Cloning (克隆) a voice using AI used to require minutes, or even hours, of sample audio. Two years ago, however, researchers at Microsoft created VALL-E, an AI model that is able to clone a person’s voice from just a three-second clip (片段) of them speaking, and make it say any given text.
④Open AI, the American company behind GPT-4, has developed a similar tool, Voice Engine, which can clone any voice from a 15-second clip and no one can find the difference. It has not yet released (发布) to public, because of its possible risks to the society.
⑤Similarly, Sora, from Open AI, can produce surprisingly realistic videos of up to a minute according to the given text. Open AI has not released Sora to the public, partly because it could be used to create disinformation. Another worry is that many people will lose their jobs in the video industry because of Sora.
⑥Though all of this is worrying, it is worth remembering that not all parts of the technology are bad. AI, it turns out, can be used for fighting disinformation as well as producing it. Anyway, it’s time to think about how we use AI. We need to make sure it’s used responsibly and for the good of everyone. Plus, who knows Maybe one day, you could be the one creating the next big thing in AI!
23.How does the writer lead in the topic in the first paragraph
A.By telling a story. B.By asking questions.
C.By giving examples. D.By comparing facts.
24.Why hasn’t Open AI released Sora to the public
A.It is too expensive.
B.It cannot create realistic videos.
C.People prefer text tools like GPT-4.
D.It might cause job losses and spread disinformation.
25.What can we know about Voice Engine according to the passage
A.It’s a tool that can clone any voice.
B.It is produced before GPT-4.
C.It can also produce videos of one minute.
D.It won’t cause any risk to the society.
26.Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.We Should Develop AI.
B.AI Is Changing Our Normal Lives.
C.AI’s Bright Future and Hidden Dangers.
D.The Dangers of AI-Generated Wrong Information.
You may think preventing a future crime before the person really does anything is just a cool sci-fi idea in some films. However, because of the quick development of artificial intelligence (AI), we already have an early version of the technology.
A Japanese company says it has developed the AI software that can analyze (分析) surveillance camera footage in order to detect suspicious (可疑的) behavior and prevent shoplifting before it actually happens.
The AI software is called VaakEye. If it decides that there is a high-enough probability of a shoplifting, it will send a message through a smartphone app so the crime can be prevented.
VaakEye first made news headlines back in December 2018 when it found out a shoplifting activity at a convenience shop in Yokohama. Now, the company is testing its software in some shops in the Tokyo area, and plans to have it installed (安装) in 100,000 shops across Japan in the next three years.
VaakEye has reportedly helped detect at least 7 shoplifters in tests. However, it is not intended to help the police catch shoplifters after they’ve committed the prime, but rather help business owners prevent the crime from being committed. Theoretically, shop workers can get close to suspicious people after receiving a message from the software and ask if they need some help. This could prevent suspected shoplifters from going ahead with their plans.
27.VaakEye can be created because of ________.
A.too many crimes B.the development of artificial intelligence
C.the intelligence of policemen D.the science-fiction films
28.How can VaakEye prevent shoplifting
A.By sending a message through a smartphone app B.By calling the police

29.What does the underlined part “made news headlines” mean
A.became big news B.appeared in the newspaper
C.wrote headlines for news D.created a new company
30.How many shoplifters did VaakEye help detect in tests
A.1 B.less than 7 C.only 7 D.more than 7
31.What do we know about VaakEye
A.It decides whether a person has a high-enough probability of a shoplifting or not.
B.It found out a shoplifting activity at a convenience shop in 2019.
C.It will be installed (安装) in 100,000 shops across Japan.
D.It is intended to help the police catch shoplifters after they’ve committed the crime.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more common in everyday life, it’s also being used more in creative areas. From Feb 20 to March 5, Christie’s, a well-known auction house (拍卖行), held its first-ever sale of AI-generated artworks.
These artworks were created using machine learning. During the auction, an artist even used AI to create a live painting. According to the auction house’s description, the event aimed to explore how humans and AI work together in art. However, the move angered many artists, with an online petition (请愿书) calling for the auction’s cancellation getting more than 6,400 signatures (签名), reported NBC News. They argued that AI models used copyrighted art without permission and called it “stealing human creativity”.
People question what counts as a real “work of art” and what defines creativity. Marcus du Sautoy, author of The Creativity Code: Art and Innovation in the Age of AI, suggests that the machine learning processes used to train AI may themselves be a form of creativity. “Code (代码) connected to data ... is able to learn and evolve,” Du Sautoy told the BBC. “This means that there is a chance for the code to produce something that deserves to be called the creativity of the code.”
While others disagree, saying artists still control the process by adjusting data and guiding the AI. Throughout the process, AI functioned more as a partner.
