Do you know the story of the three brothers and the chopsticks
Share it with the class.
What can you learn
from the story
We can learn that unity is strength—one chopstick can be broken
easily, but many chopsticks can become strong together. Just like the chopsticks, a group of people has more power than one person! Teamwork helps us overcome difficulties together.
The power of working together
Once upon a time in ancient China, there was an old man. He had three sons. The brothers often argued. It was impossible for them to work together! This troubled the old man very much. One day the old man had an idea. He brought his sons together and gave them each a single chopstick. “Now break it in half,” said the old man. Of course, they all did it easily. Then the old man took many chopsticks. “Try again,” he said. None of his sons could do it this time. The old man told his sons, “You see, one chopstick can be broken easily, but many chopsticks can become strong together. Just like the chopsticks, a group of people has more power than one person! You should work together from now on!”
