阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项。
A
Start the Day Right
Fibre plays a vital role in our health, but many of us aren’t getting enough — only about 4% of UK adults meet the recommended 30g daily. Granola (麦片) can be a great way to start your morning with a fibre-rich boost, but shop-bought versions are often pricey and packed with sugar. This homemade granola, however, is not only full of fibre, but also rich in nutrients, plant points, healthy fats, and protein.
The healthy bit
MAKES 6-8 SERVINGS Ingredients *3 tbsp coconut oil *2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (vegan) *1 cup mixed seeds *2 cups mixed nuts *1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes and/or buckwheat *1 cup whole oats *1 tsp cinnamon *1/2 tsp ginger It’s easy and quick to make! Method *Preheat the oven to 180°C, 160°C fan. *Spread the ingredients across a large baking tray, giving them a quick mix (don’t worry if the coconut oil is still solid), and place in the oven. *After about 5 minutes, the coconut oil will have melted. Remove from the oven and give everything a good stir. *Return to the oven and bake for a further 30 minutes, stirring halfway through. *Once baked, remove from the oven and leave to cool. Crumble to your preferred cluster size, and transfer to an air-tight container.
Fibre deserves far more attention. It's essential for a happy gut, steady energy, and balanced hormones. This recipe provides a variety of fibres to keep you fuller for longer, slow the release of sugar into your bloodstream, and support healthy digestion. This granola is also a fantastic source of soluble (水溶性的) fibre; this attracts water to form a gel-like substance in the digestive tract, binding to fatty acids and supporting healthy metabolism (新陈代谢).
For other easy ways to increase your fibre intake, try filling half your plate with two or three different vegetables (and some fruit) at each meal. Adding nuts, beans, or lentils to dishes, and keeping a jar of mixed seeds on the table to sprinkle over meals, can also make a big difference.
21. What is a downside of shop-bought granola
A. It has few nutrients. B. It is difficult to store for long.
C. It lacks fibre and protein. D. It is high in sugar and expensive.
22. How long does the homemade granola need to be baked in total
A. 5 minutes. B. 25 minutes. C. 35 minutes. D. 40 minutes.
23. What benefit does soluble fibre in the granola bring
A. It boosts your appetite. B. It promotes healthy metabolism.
C. It aids sugar absorption. D. It transforms gel-like substances.

Dreschel is going for his daily morning walk around Thalangama Wetland, in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo. The sun casts a warm glow over flowering pink water lilies (睡莲) as a farmer washes down his water buffalo. A kingfisher hovers (盘旋) nearby.
But this hasn’t always been the case. About 15 years ago, Thalangama’s wetlands were polluted and filled with rubbish. Dreschel, the country manager at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Colombo, recalled a decade ago he began cleaning the lake alone. Surprisingly, passersby stopped to help. Inspired the community formed the Thalangama Wetland Watch.
Colombo, a Ramsar wetland city, located in a river basin and naturally trending to floods, relies on its wetlands as natural flood barriers, absorbing 40% of floodwaters. They also sink carbon, purify air, and control temperatures. Historically central to local life, they now help reduce climate change, pollution, and stress for residents in high-rise buildings.
It is said that after significant flooding events the government realized wetlands are a significant flood control mechanism and began to act, launching a revival strategy to restore these critical ecosystems. The metro Colombo wetland management strategy was introduced in 2016, which aims to include wetlands in urban planning, prevent further wetland loss, restore the ecosystems and involve the local community in their conservation. Following that, wetlands were included into urban infrastructure by constructing cycling tracks, jogging paths and recreational areas around them. Invasive species were almost cleaned and new soil and wetland plants were introduced to attract birds and other animals.
Green infrastructure projects have reconnected people with Colombo’s munities like Wetland Watch now maintain them, boosting property values. The Ramsar status temporarily stopped wetland destruction.
But an expert warns that coordinated efforts are essential to resist growing flood risks. He emphasizes that public education on wetlands is crucial for urban resilience. Another notes a fundamental urgency to protect these ecosystems. “If we lose our wetlands, Colombo will be unlivable.”
24. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Dreschel’s morning walk
A. To recommend a way to protect wetlands.
B. To show Dreschel’s healthy and peaceful life.
C. To present a scene full of life around The wetland.
D. To suggest benefits of morning walks in Sri Lanka.
25. What is the function of the wetland
A. Releasing the impact of floods. B. Providing residential areas for people.
C. Preventing climate change and pollution. D. Improving air quality by removing pollutants.
26. What can be inferred about the government’s restoration measures
A. They removed all invasive species. B. They integrated wetlands into urban life.
C. They prioritized economy over ecology. D. They relocated communities over wetlands.
27. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. How a Walk Saved a Wetland B. Colombo: A City Built on Wetlands

A quiet AI revolution is unfolding in China’s countryside. In provinces like Jilin, Yunnan and Hubei, farmers are turning to AI to save their crops from flooding and disease. China is showing the world a different roadmap of AI’s path forward.
Free AI services in China fuel mass adoption. DeepSeek’s integration into WeChat caused a traffic surge, absorbed by Tencent’s Yuanbao, whose DAU (Daily Active Users) jumped 20 times in two months. AI now rapidly integrates into daily life, reaching vast rural populations at scale.
By making AI tools free and accessible through platforms like WeChat, China has opened the floodgates to grassroots adoption. Chinese companies have prioritized scale. And that scale is surprising: Nearly 300 million farmers, representing 20% of the national population, are potential AI users.
In one Hubei village, weeks of heavy rain threatened to destroy rice fields. Consequently, farmers turned to Yuanbao. The chatbot recommended building embankments and switching to high-ridge planting — the advice arrives instantly, tailored to specific problems and images uploaded by farmers with little formal education.
AI is inserted into everyday life in China. For Chinese farmers, the benefits are real and immediate. For many, AI is no longer a futuristic idea but a daily tool. While China’s rural AI surge is impressive, it faces challenges of its own. AI researchers found that most farmers didn’t know how to pose useful questions to AI chatbots unless prompted by local officials. Educational gaps remain a barrier: Even when farmers receive answers, they might not understand the technical terms involved. Without a closed loop of comprehension and action, the benefits of AI can’t be fully realized.
Researchers also stress that making AI useful for the farmers as well as elders will require more than a stylish UX and bigger models. It urgently demands simplified responses, voice interfaces and solutions tailored to real-world conditions.
28. What resulted from DeepSeek’s integration into WeChat
A. Free AI services in China became available.
B. Tencent’s Yuanbao saw a rapid increase in users.
C. Farmers in Hubei doubled their rice production.
D The number of WeChat users dropped significantly.
29. What do the underlined words “opened the floodgates to” mean in paragraph 3
A. Blocked the way of. B. Tested the limits of.
C. Increased the cost of. D. Allowed widespread entry of.
30. What will the researchers most probably do next
A. Develop larger AI models. B. Expand AI access to more cities.
C. Provide simplified practical instructions. D. Teach farmers to understand technical terms.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. AI companies profit greatly from rural users.
B AI has solved all farming problems in China.
C. Farmers prefer traditional methods to AI technology.
D. China’s rural AI holds promise but faces challenges.
D
By the age of 22, Hikari Oberman has already been a lifeguard for four years. Recently, Oberman talked about how he saved lives during a rescue.
On December 30, Oberman and his co-worker were at Anini Beach when two workers ran up to them and said, “We think someone’s getting stuck in the channel!” Oberman quickly got their equipment and as they were making their way down there, he got in touch with a Jet Ski (喷气式划艇) through radio and asked it to assist with the rescue.
When he got there, Oberman found a surfer, a man in his late 30s struggling against the strong current, with an elderly man in his 70s holding on to the back of the surfboard. Apparently, they entered the water against the advisory on the radio. “My co-worker grasped the surfer. Meanwhile, I was helping the older man,” Oberman said.
Normally, Oberman would lay the guy on the surfboard, climb up behind, and paddle from there. He tried that technique at first and quickly realized it was not working.
Waves hit against the rocky reef about 27 meters behind them, and the current was pulling them into it. “If I stop paddling, we’re definitely going to be in that zone,” Oberman recalled. At that moment, he just focused on forward movement and kept thinking that as long as they were not going backward, that was good.
After about five minutes — “even though it felt longer” — Oberman’s partner had gotten the surfer safely to shore and started coming back to assist him. After a short time, the Jet Ski finally came to the channel to help.
It was a good rescue. When asked what it feels like to save someone’s life, Oberman responded, “I love it! That’s why we do it!” But as exciting as it might be to perform a big rescue, he explained that the most important part of his job was to prevent people from getting into trouble in the first place. “A dry lifeguard is a good lifeguard.”
32. Why were the surfers stuck in the channel
A. The water was too deep. B. They were too old to surf.
C. They failed to follow the radio warning. D. Something was wrong with their surfboard.
33. What does the author want to tell us by mentioning the waves in Paragraph 5
A. The depth of the channel. B. Oberman’s professionalism.
C. The result of the big rescue. D. The seriousness of the situation.
34. What can we infer from the underlined sentence in the last paragraph
A. Oberman will focus more on preventive action.
B Oberman won’t perform any big rescue anymore.
C. Good lifeguards won’t get wet after a rescue mission.
D. Lifeguards should request assistance before entering the water.
35. Which of the following best describes Hikari Oberman’s character in the rescue process
A. Brave and responsible. B. Decisive and adaptable.
C Friendly and cooperative. D. Persistent and cautious.

If the ____41____ are just right, some of the electrons inside a(n) ____42____ will arrange themselves into a tidy honeycomb pattern(蜂巢状结构)— like a solid within a ____43____. Physicists have now ____44____ imaged these ‘Wigner crystals’, named after the Hungarian-born ____45____ Eugene Wigner, who first imagined them almost 90 years ago. Researchers had ____46____ created Wigner crystals and measured their properties before, but this is the first time that anyone has actually taken a snapshot of the patterns, says study co-author Feng Wang, a physicist at the University of California, Berkeley. “If you say you have an electron crystal, show me the crystal,” he says. The results were published on 29 September in Nature.
To create the Wigner crystals, Wang’s team built a device ____47____ atom-thin layers of two similar semiconductors: tungsten disulfide(二硫化物)and tungsten diselenide(联硒化物). The team then used an electric field to tune the density of the electrons that moved freely along the interface between the two layers.
In ordinary materials, electrons zoom around too quickly to be ____48____ affected by the ____49____ between their negative charges. But Wigner predicted that if electrons travelled slowly enough, that repulsion would begin to dominate their behaviour. The electrons would then find ____50____ that minimize their total energy, such as a ____51____. So Wang and his colleagues slowed the electrons in their device by ____52____ it to a few degrees above absolute zero.
A mismatch ____53____ the two layers in the device also helped the electrons to form Wigner crystals. The atoms in each of the two semiconductor layers are slightly different distances apart, so pairing them together creates a honeycomb ‘moiré pattern’(蝶纹结构), similar to that seen when overlaying two grids. That repeating pattern created regions of slightly lower energy, which helped the electrons ____54____. The team used scanning tunnelling microscope(STM) to see this Wigner crystal. In an STM, a metal tip hovers above the surface of a sample, and a(n) ____55____ causes electrons to jump down from the tip, creating an electric current.

In the campus courtyard stood an ancient oak tree, which served as the school’s traditional “memories bank”. On the final day of senior year, students gathered to bury time capsules-letters addressed to their future selves. Mia stood among them, clutching her sealed envelope with a heavy heart. Unlike those filled with hopes and dreams, hers contained a painful confession (忏悔) she had carried for three long years.
Her mind drifted back to the science lab, the place where her curiosity had turned tragic. As she stretched toward the school’s antique microscope, her hand trembled slightly. In that second, the heavy instrument slipped off the table and crashed to the floor, breaking into two pieces. Panicked, she hurriedly picked up the pieces and forced them back together. Just then, the door swung open to reveal Ben, a quiet boy, with Mr. Davies close behind. Ben had come merely to borrow the instrument for an experiment. Yet, hardly had he laid a hand on it when the fragile bond gave way, and it split apart once more.
Astonished, Mia watched Ben claim the fault as his own. “It slipped from my hands,” he murmured, taking a disappointment that belonged to her. Frozen in guilty silence, she witnessed him bear the weight of her mistake.
As Ben dropped his letter into the earth and offered a sorrowful smile, Mia held her envelope tightly. Above, the oak leaves whispered in the breeze. Her gaze shifted between the freshly turned soil and Ben’s figure, wondering if burying her truth could truly be the ending she desired for her high school story
