Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in Finland
Finland is one of the best places in the world to see the Aurora Borealis, also called the Northern Lights. This natural wonder appears most often in Lapland, the northernmost part of Finland.
The Northern Lights are caused by solar winds (太阳风) hitting the Earth’s atmosphere. They look like green, pink and purple lights dancing in the night sky. The best time to see them is from September to March, when the nights are longest and darkest.
Every year, thousands of travelers go to Finland just to watch this amazing show. Some stay in glass-roofed hotels so they can see the lights without going outside. However, the weather is very changeable. You may wait for several nights but see nothing if the sky is cloudy.
Tourists are advised to deal with the cold by wearing warm clothes and to be patient. In one’s lifetime, seeing the Northern Lights is a truly unforgettable experience.
