Many visitors go to Danian at the foot of Laoshan Mountain in Nanjing at weekends to enjoy the
fresh air and the natural beauty.
Many years ago, Danian was only a poor mountain village known to few people. At that time,
villagers made money by growing peaches. They didn’t make much money as there wasn’t a road to
transport peaches. Things began to change in 2013. A highway of 5.7 kilometres long connected Danian
to the outside. The 2014 Youth Olympic Games held cycling games there, building a 5.5-kilometre-long
road for cycling. From then on, the villagers made good use of the green mountains, country culture and
their road for cycling to welcome tourists.
Danian welcomes about two million tourists every year now. “The environment and the life of the
local people have been greatly improved,” said Liu Minghai, the village head.
