This year, more and more schools in China start spring and autumn holidays. These short holidays help students relax after long terms of study. With nice weather, students can go outside to do fun things like farming, visiting museums, or learning about nature. Families also enjoy these holidays. Parents can take time off work and travel with their children at lower cost. This helps families spend more time together.
These holidays also bring changes to education. Students can learn from real life, not just from books. For example, when they visit a farm, they see how food grows. When they go to a museum, they learn history in a fun way. Many schools work with local communities to make these activities possible.
In the United States, students also have a similar spring holiday called “spring break”. It is usually one week long in March. Many American university students go to beaches in Florida or Mexico to have fun. But some students choose a different way. They join “service trips” to help others. For example, some students help rebuild houses after storms. Others teach kids or help clean parks. They use their holiday time to address problems in communities.
These service trips are not expensive. Students sleep in schools or tents and pay only about $250 for the week. They say the trips are rewarding because they help people and make new friends.
In short, both China’s new spring holidays and America’s service trips show a new idea in education. They care more about students’ life experience and growing up in a healthy way.

The Ministry of Education has introduced a new guideline (指导方针) to build “healthy schools” across China. The goal is to help students grow in a better environment, not just in grades but also in body and mind.
12 By 2027, some schools will work as pilot schools. By 2030 the idea will be widely accepted. By 2035, high-quality healthy schools will be built across the country.
So what makes a school “healthy” First, students need enough physical activity. Schools must make sure that every student gets time to exercise. 13 Besides, eye exercises between classes are also required to protect students’ eyesight.
Another important part is mental health. More and more students face pressure from studies and daily life. 14 In this way, teachers can find and help students with psychological problems early.
Food safety is also a key part of a healthy school. Schools must provide clean and safe meals every day. 15 In this way, students can eat without worry.
The guideline also asks schools to offer first-aid training and safety drills (演习) . These help students learn how to protect themselves in dangerous situations.
This new guideline is an important step. It shows that health comes first, and it truly matters for every student’s future.
A.To reach the goals, it includes three steps.
B.That means no unsafe food is allowed on campus.
C.Some schools may find it hard to follow all the rules at once.

One day, a group of tourists from Australia climbed a large rock in the Central Park of New York City. They took pictures of one another with the high buildings in the background. Like many other tourists, they didn’t realize that high in a nearby tree, there was something more worthy of attention (值得关注): an eagle-owl (雕鸮) named Flaco.
Earlier that month, the bird Flaco made his great escape from the Central Park Zoo. The zookeepers then tried many times to catch him but were unsuccessful. He seemed to be in no hurry to return to the zoo.
Olga Torrey, a photographer, has been photographing animals in city parks for 12 years. After Flaco escaped, Torrey kept a close eye on him. She wanted to find out if he would return to the zoo. “Once he gets a taste of freedom. I’m not sure...” she said.
Still, each day spent outside puts Flaco in danger. He might accidentally (意外地) hit windows and get injured (受伤) while flying. Moreover, the eagle-owl lived his whole life in the zoo in the past. He may not be used to finding food on his own. And if he made a meal of a rat (耗子), it might be bad for his health—the rat might contain poison (含有毒物).
The zoo has had the workers carefully watch Flaco all the time, because they are worried about his safety. Has Flaco eaten anything today Has he got injured today
Well, another day of watching has now begun.

It’s bad for your health and the animals. Fourth, don’t take photos. The flash may scare the animals. One more rule: please speak quietly. Loud noises can make animals feel nervous.
