In February 2024, Tejasvi, then a 16-year-old junior, was driving home with her father when she noticed five missed calls from her grandfather. The 85-year-old man had received an urgent email from his little son, asking for $2,000 to settle an unexpected debt. Given the emergency, Tejasvi's grandfather was prepared to transfer the funds —— but her father stopped him and called his brother to see if the request was - -legal. “I never asked for money.” was the response,
It was a near miss for the unsuspecting senior. The faet that criminals should seek to take advantage of an old man's lack of knowledge about the workings of the Internet galled Tejasvi. How could they! When she got home she went to her room and immediately began researching how common such somns (欺诈)are. They turn out to be very common. In 2024, the Internet Crime Complaint Center reeeived nearly860,000 reports of scums, with potential losses exceeding $16 billion. Aets of cheating tnrgeting people over the age of 60 reached nearly $5 billion.
Older Americans clearly need protection, and Tejasvi was determined to provide it. Within the year she built and launched Shield Seniors, a website designed to edueate the elderly about what online senms look like, analyze suapicious emails and messages users upload, and, if the communications prove to be a cheat, provide links to report them. The site is eurrently available in a private preview mode only, but is —— like its creator —— making itself known.
After the launch of Shield Seniors, Tejasvi was recognized with an honorable mention in the 2024Congressional App Challenge, delivered talks about the need to build“digital bridges” for all, and made appearances at assisted living facilities to talk about her website and teach the elderly about online scams.“Just check up on your loved ones,” Tejasvi said.“Make sure that they' re staying safe online.”

“When AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to short video platforms and how that will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living. There must be scary times,” an influential content creator, Jimmy Donaldson, said. Donaldson's concerns follow the release of a social media platform able to generate short-form AI videos, including videos of individuals who“upload”themselves onto the app. Other content creators have also spoken out about the consequences of platforms where every video is from AI.
Still, Donaldson hasn't shied away from having a go at the technology. In July, Donaldson made a tool providing AI-generated thumbnails (缩略图) to the public, but removed the feature about a week later after heavy criticism from other creators. He said he would replace the tool with links to human artists accepting commissions.“I care more than any of you could ever imagine about the community,” he said in a video.“It makes me deeply sad when I do something that people in the community are angry at.”
Online content creators are torn between using AI-generated video content and keeping away from AIcreation. While more than 80% of content creators said they used AI tools for their content, including generating images and videos, one-third said they had concerns about the quality of the AI-generated content, and 45% said the technology would make it harder for human creators to stand out, according to a survey of 620 influencers.
Not everyone sees AI as a bad thing for content creators. Amjad Hanif, a head of creator payments and products, said that the technology could help level the playing field among creators who may not have the game regources as Donaldson.“A lot of the effects —— the visual quality, the visual imagery —— are tricky,Up until now it's taken an expert team to be able to produce them,” Hanif said.“AI is going to make that avallable to a much broader group of creators.”
28. What phenomenon does the author point ont in paragraph 1
A. AI will pose challenges to creators. B. AI boosts the spread of short videos.
C. AI has replaced human oreators online. D. AI downloads information of users.
29. Why was Donaldson criticized
A. He advocated AI videos. B. He created an AI tool.
C. He publicized his videos. D. He disrespected human artists.
30. Why does the author mention the survey in paragraph 3
A. To support Donaldson's concern. B. To exhibit public recognition of AI.
C. To show creators' mixed feelings. D. To stress the negative impact of AI.
31. What is the advantage of AI according to Amjad Hanif
A. It helps create equal opportunity. B. It standardizes short video creation.
C. It increases the payments for creators. D. It improves the special visual effects.
D
If we can fully map the structure of our brains, will we be able to understand how they work That is the goal of researchers attempting to build a wiring diagram, or connectome(连接组), of our neural (神经的) pathways.
The researchers led by Sophie Dvali at Princeton University looked at the connectome of a thin, tube-shaped worm, and compared it with a record of the worm's meural signals, which they collected by stimulating each neuron and tracking how the signal it sent out moved through the connectome. This is possible in the worm because it has only around 300 neurons in its entire nervous system, meaning a not complicated system. By treating the two datasets as mathematical networks, the team could determine whether groups of neurons that are very closely interconnected in the connectome also tend to exchange a large number of signals. They found that this isn't always the case.
Dvali says that there were some examples of overlap (重叠) between high connection and signal exchange, such as for groups of neurons responsible for how the worm eats, where the two networks matehed really well, or neurons involved in how it moves backwards, an important movement for a worm escaping danger. In the latter case, the neurons were very connected in both networks though not in an identical way. But, more generally, there were enough differences and the team says the connectome of an organism isn't enough to predict all of its behavior.
Team member Andrew Leifer says the differenee may be because signals between neurons don't always take the shortest path, and that there are also known cases where neurons can communicate in ways beyond the“wires” that connect them. “We' re used to using the neural map to guide our research, and often it's very helpful and informative, but in many cases there are so many connections that we wish we had more information,” he says.
Next, the researchers want to expand their study to account for how signals spread through the connectome when multiple neurons get stimulated at onee, and to look at more complex animals like a fruit fly, whieh has the largest whole-brain connectome described to date.
32. What is Dvali's team trying to do
A. Draw a wiring diagram of the brain. B. Study how neural signals are exchanged.
C. Find out how worms eat and move. D. Conneet the brain structure and behavior.
33. Why did the researchers experiment on the worm
A. Its nervous system is simple. B. A detailed connectome is found in it.
C. Its neural signals are obvious. D. Lots of previous records are about it.
34. What did the researchers find about the connectome
A. It's insufficient to explain acts. B. It varies with the species.
C. It's more informative than expected. D. It matches paths of signals.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Across the brain B. Between the neurons
C. Beyond the map D. Around the shortest way
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Salt and pepper shakers are often dismissed as decorative or unnecessary, but they serve several purposes.
The main benefit is cleanliness. Open bowls of salt, no matter how delicate they look, invite people to use it with their fingers or spoons. When I see guests do this, I'm always nervous of the possible bacteria in there. 36 .
There's also the matter of presentation. When the dinners with guests are over, details count. Well-chosen shakers beautify the table, while plastic or glass supermarket containers look temporary and out of place. My wife Debbie thinks it's funny, but I like to display everything for aesthetics (美感). 37 ,but they do help create an atmosphere, and small touches matter.
Convenience is another factor. Shakers are designed for speed and consistency. A quick shake gives just the right amount without measuring. 38 . Shakers would occupy the same space that the supermarket containers do, but they'd help us limit the amount of salt in our meal, which helps keep the dishes both delicious and healthy.
39 . Debbie doesn't really care, but she once expressed an interest in some antique Victorian silver ones, which I'm open to. However, I'd like to see her show more interest in our purchase, as she will be using them too.
Proper shakers combine cleanliness, presentation, and convenience in a way that open bowls and plastic containers can't. 40 . Debbie should be grateful she has a partner who cares so deeply about the little things.
A. So I put a cover on each of them
B. I' ve ruined many dishes by over-salting
C. People might not comment on these little details
D. I want wooden ones to match our kitchen counters
E. They are small but enhance the feel of a shared home
F. The plastic supermarket shakers do the job perfectly well
G. A shaker, on the other hand, keeps it covered and well prepared

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One day, during a lively school class, Mrs. Thompson asked everyone about their dream jobs. The classroom suddenly got filled with eager voices as classmates enthusiastically shared their dreams. “I want to be a college professor,” said Sarah confidently. “I dream of becoming a basketball player,” exclaimed Mike with light in his eye. The air was filled with dreams of doctors, nurses, bank accountants, and various professions.
When Mrs. Thompson turned her attention to me, inquiring about my future career, I hesitated. “I don’t know yet,” I admitted. Then she asked if I wished to follow in my dad’s footsteps. “No,” I responded firmly.
My dad is a distinguished doctor with a demanding schedule, who often finds himself engaged in the responsibilities of his job. Thus, he often returns home late in the evening. The limited time we spent together during my upbringing created a noticeable distance in our relationship. I had such a lot to complain about his job and thus being a doctor would be the last option I would take.
After hearing my answer, Mrs. Thompson didn’t make any comment. Instead, she advised me to think more about that.
A turning point came when our school decided to stage a New Year’s play. It was the grandest event of the year, and we had been preparing for it for a long time. Preparing for our roles, I needed to buy costume. Unfortunately, my mom had to travel to another city for work, so it fell upon my dad to accompany me. Reluctantly (不情愿地), Iagreed, realizing there was no other option.
In the mall, it became evident that my dad was clueless about the items on the shopping list. Despite Mom providing a detailed list, we wandered through different floors, in and out between different shops before finally getting everything we needed. And I was getting more and more uncomfortable.
Suddenly, a chaos drew our attention. A crowd had gathered, and someone was shouting for help. It turned out that an elderly customer had a fall, and onlookers were at a loss on how to assist.

Dear Principal Smith,
I am Li Hua, a senior student from our school. I am writing to address some concerns regarding our school library. Recently, many students have noticed that the book collection is outdated, with limited new arrivals, which affects our studies and reading interests. Additionally, the online search system often fails to work correctly, making it difficult to locate books efficiently.
To improve the situation, I kindly suggest two measures. First, the library could set aside more funds to purchase popular and academic books regularly. Organizing book donation drives among students might also help. Second, upgrading the online system or providing professional IT support would ensure smoother searches.
Thank you for considering these suggestions. I believe these changes will greatly benefit our learning environment.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.【答案】one possible version
My dad rushed forward. And I followed suit. “Stay calm, everyone. We need to act quickly,” after he figured out what was going on, he gestured for everyone to remain calm and call emergency services. He started performing first aid, which immediately put those around him at ease. Soon, an ambulance arrived. Thanks to my dad’s timely intervention, the patient regained consciousness, gaining crucial time for further treatment. Then the patient was rushed to the hospital.
Witnessing the scene there, I suddenly realized the value of my dad’s work. On the way back home, I thanked Dad, not only for accompanying me to the shopping mall, but also for saving the customer and helping me understand the worth of adult professions. A few days after the play, Mrs. Thompson asked me if I had changed my mind. I replied proudly with a definite “yes,” The journey through the mall had totally reshaped my perspective on the significance of every kind of work and taught me that I should never judge the value of people’s work at will.
