Worksheet for Story Continuation Writing
When I was in third grade, my school started a reading program, pairing strong readers with those ho hadn' t learned yet. Thar's how I got paired with Evan. Twice a week, we' d sit on beanbags (豆袋坐垫 )during our library period. I'd listen as he would struggle to read aloud books like Brown Bear: Brown Bear, What Do You See by Bill Martin Jr.
Evan was plysically much bigger than I was. Back then, I had a hard time understanding how he was so big but couldn't read. When he' d come across a word he didn' t know, my job was to help him sound it out. But he still struggled. So I figured out ways to explain things to him differently, like connecting words with memorable phrases or creating simple examples on the fly with whatever was near us in the room. I got good at coming up with little tricks that engaged (吸引)Evan's interests, making harder ideas more memorable.
Sometimes we'd do our reading sessions during our lunch period. While I'd pull out my lunch in a brown bag with a handwritten smiley face on it that my momma had made me that day, I'd watch as a teacher would bring him a food box from the cafeteria (食堂).
Evan's momma didn't make his lunch. I also began to notice that his clothes never seemed to fit him, like they were three sizes too big.Once, when we were going over throw, threw, and through, I tried to help by relating it to how he d throw a ball to his dad. When we locked eyes, he gave me a wide-eyed look and slowly shook his head. I stayed quiet while his eyes seemed to search for the words. After a while, he finally spoke. His words came out slowly, unsure and hesitant ( 犹豫),like he was embarrassed to mention it.
"My-my dad has long passed," Evan reply._________________________________________________

Guideline for Story Continuation Writing
Step 1 Set the tone (positive or negative)
Tip #1 Bear the main idea and the writing purpose in mind when setting the tone of your writing.
main idea: One day in third grade in the library, the author was paired with Evan, a struggling but physically bigger reader, for a twice-weekly school reading program to improve his reading through creative tricks.
writing purpose: To show how a simple act of helping others can lead to meaningful friendship and personal growth for both sides.
Step 2 Plan the plot
Tip #2 Find out the guns and fire them! (Respond to the details mentioned in the given material.)
Step 3 Fix the tense
Tip #3 Make sure the tense is consistent with (与…一致) that in the given material.
Step 4 Evaluate and improve
Tip #4 Always remember to check whether you have accomplished the writing purpose.
A possible version:
"My-my dad has long passed" Evanreplied. Tears welled up in his big eyes, and his voice trembled as he added, "He left us when I was little, and Momworks two jobs to support us." My face burned with shame-l'd never realized my careless words had hurt him sodeeply. I quickly apologized, patting his shoulder gently. Evan finally broke down, sobbing out all his loneliness: no one helped him with reading, no one made him lunch, and he'd been hiding his pain for years. The library was quiet, only the sound of his soft criesechoing.
After Evan let his inner struggles out, he slowly began to change. He stopped being shy in our reading sessions, raising his hand to ask questions actively. I adjusted mymethods, using his favorite sportsstories to teach words, and evenshared my mom's homemade cookieswith him at lunch. Months later, Evan could read picture books fluently, and a bright smile often lit up his face. This experience taught me that true kindness is not just helping someone read-it's seeing their pain and walkingwith them through it.(共16张PPT)
