Have you ever done something that made you embarrassed(尴尬的) No one likes this feeling, but learning to deal with embarrassment can make you feel more confident.
What does embarrassment feel like
Embarrassment makes you laugh, cry and want to hide under your bed forever. Falling over in a shop or accidentally calling your teacher “Mum” might feel like the end of the world. But everyone gets embarrassed sometimes. We all react(反应) differently, and what feels embarrassed and uncomfortable to one person might be easily laughed off by another. Childline(儿童热线), a charity that supports young people, says, “Whatever you’re feeling embarrassed about, remember that it’s natural to feel this way.”
Why do we feel embarrassed
Scientists believe embarrassment is a way of teaching us not to repeat mistakes. You’re more likely to feel embarrassed when you worry too much about what other people think of you. Even if you think everyone saw you with strawberry jam on your face, studies show that fewer people notice than you think.
How do we deal with embarrassment
If something isn’t very serious, try making a joke out of it. “Laughter can show people (and yourself) that it isn’t something to worry about.” Childline says. If you are feeling embarrassed, other people may not have even noticed, so try acting like it’s no big deal or take no notice of what happened. Sometimes we’re embarrassed about the way we’ve behaved towards others. In that case, try saying how sorry you are and that you regret what happened. “Telling someone can be a first step in moving on,” says Childline.
19.Why is it important to learn to deal with embarrassment according to this passage
A.It makes you happy. B.It improves your study.
C.It helps you sleep well. D.It makes you more confident.
20.You may get embarrassed when you ________.
A.hide yourself under your bed B.run off a shoe at a sports meeting
C.fall over in your bedroom D.get some advice from Childline
21.Which of the following is a good way to deal with embarrassment
a. Try forgetting something awful that just happened.
b. Say you are not sorry for copying Chinese homework.
c. Try making a joke and let the embarrassment go quickly.
d. Try acting like it’s not a big deal and cry loudly at home.
e. Talk with a good friend when you greet someone by mistake.
A.a, b and c B.b, c and d C.c, d and e D.a, c and e
22.What is the writer’s purpose of writing this passage
A.To explain what embarrassment is.
B.To suggest how we deal with embarrassment.
C.To show how people feel about embarrassment.
D.To tell us what scientists think of embarrassment.

Sally grew up in a small country in Southeast Asia. She wanted very much to explore the big world one day. When she was in her late twenties, she got a scholarship (奖学金) to study films in England, a golden chance that she felt was the first step towards her dreams.
However, life in England was nothing like the films and television shows. Everything was expensive, from a simple cup of coffee to a small room. Nora was a little fox living in Oakwood Forest. She loved collecting small sticks and soft leaves to make little homes for her forest friends. But there was a big problem in the forest: every time a storm came, the thin willow branches (柳枝) holding the birds’ nests (鸟巢) would break. Baby birds would then have no place to live and feel scared.
One rainy night, Nora saw a broken nest on the ground. She said, “I hope I can make a strong nest that won’t fall in storms.” The next day, she found a willow branch by the river. She found it flexible and could bend (弯曲) easily. Later, she watched a spider making a web between two trees. She waved gently at the busy spider and thanked him quietly. She was very happy because she realized that silk would be her secret tool. Because the silk wouldn’t break in the wind.
Nora got a great idea. She used the bendy branches to make round nest bases (底座). Then she used the spider silk to tie the branches together. A curious squirrel watched her from a nearby tree, then jumped over to offer a handful of dry grass. Then they put soft grass inside to keep baby birds warm and dry. What a strong and comfortable nest!
When the next storm came, the new nests bent gently in the wind but never fell. Baby birds stayed safe and happy inside. All the forest animals thanked Nora for her clever invention. She smiled and felt proud that she could help her friends with things from nature.
