B(2025·福建泉州模拟)
One sunny Monday,I decided to go for a walk. There is a beautiful dirt track near my house that runs along a river for about 2 km.On my finger was a very special ring:I’d only just picked it up from the jeweller’s the day before because I’d had it designed to hold a diamond given to me by my grandmother for my 21st birthday.
I looked down at my ring as I began my walk, feeling as sunny as the day.Imagine my sadness when I looked again at the end of the track and saw a gaping hole in the setting where the diamond should have been.It was missing.
Panicked,I started back along the path, looking frantically for the stone. In my heart,I knew how hopeless my search was.The track was long, stony and covered with leaves and debris(碎片).
As I scanned the ground, crying and extremely worried,I met an older gentleman out for a walk.“What’s the matter, love ” he asked kindly.“Lost something ” I explained about the missing diamond and showed him the hole in my ring.He whistled.
“That’s hard to find.Tell you what, love,I walk along this track every day,I’ll keep my eyes open for it.” I thanked him, expecting nothing, but told him my husband often walks our dogs along the path if he ever found something.
A few days later,my husband met the older man on the path.“Guess what ” he said.“I found your diamond!”
Unbelievably,he’d found the tiny stone and was delighted to hand the diamond back to my husband, saying casually.
“Lucky I found it — I only have 50 percent vision in one eye.”
When my husband offered him money for his trouble,he refused it.He could have easily kept the diamond,or sold it,as it’s worth several thousand dollars, but, thanks to this man,I’ll spend the rest of my days trying to do something equally significant for another person. And if I’m ever worried about the state of the human race, all I have to do is look at my ring and remind myself that there are still kind and generous souls out there.

Ethics(伦理) and morality are fundamental concepts that guide human behavior and decision-making.They shape our understanding of what is right and wrong, influencing our actions and interactions with others.Generally, the terms ethics and morality are used interchangeably;however,a few different communities will occasionally make a distinction. 8
Many people think of morality as something personal and subjective. It includes individuals’ beliefs and values about what is good and bad, often shaped by culture, religion, and personal experiences. 9 For instance,a person may believe that honesty is the best policy, while another may prioritize loyalty to a friend, even if it means being dishonest in a specific situation.
On the other hand, ethics is a set of principles or rules that govern one’s behavior in terms of “right and wrong”. 10 Similarly, medical ethics guide healthcare professionals in making decisions that affect patient care, ensuring that they follow standards of practice and prioritize the well-being of their patients.
Although ethics and morality are distinct concepts, they are closely linked and mutually reinforcing(加强). 11 It allows us to apply our personal values to real-world situations. In turn, morality infuses ethics with meaning and purpose. It gives life to the abstract principles and rules that guide our behavior.
12 They work in harmony to guide our actions and shape our societies.Together, they form a solid foundation for building just, harmonious and compassionate communities. As we navigate the complexities of the modern world,it is essential to recognize the interdependence of ethics and morality.By embracing both,we can cultivate a culture of integrity, empathy, and responsibility, ensuring that our actions match our deepest moral beliefs. In doing so,we contribute to a more sustainable and harmonious future for all.
A.Let’s go ahead and dive into these distinctions.
B.As you can see,the distinction can get a bit confusing.
C.Ethics offers a formalized structure for moral reasoning.
D.Our society requires a doctor to do his or her job ethically.
E.For example, business ethics help companies enhance honesty and integrity.
F.Morality varies greatly from person to person, leading to different interpretations.
G.In conclusion, ethics and morality are not opposing forces but complementary aspects.
