第三节 应用文(演讲稿示例)
Dear teachers and friends,I'm honored to share my story of growing up through
adversity. Last year, I failed the English speech contest—nervousness made me
forget my lines, and I lost all confidence.
To overcome it, I practiced daily: recording my speech, correcting mistakes, and
asking my teacher for advice. Gradually, I regained confidence. Eventually, I won the
second prize in a school contest.
This experience taught me: adversity is not a barrier, but a chance to grow. We
should face challenges bravely and never give up.
Thank you for listening.
第四节 读后续写(示例)
I closed my laptop very hard and rushed to Ethan's door, angry. I knocked loudly,
and after a moment, Ethan opened the door, looking confused. "Ethan, your music is
so loud! I'm trying to write my thesis, and I can't concentrate!" I shouted, my voice
trembling. He looked surprised and apologized immediately: "I'm sorry—I was having
a small party and didn't realize it bothered you." He turned down the music and
promised to keep it quiet. I mumbled thanks and went back, still annoyed but calmer.
To my surprise, Ethan gave me the contact information of the researcher later.
The next day, a note on my door had a name and number—Ethan remembered I
struggled with my thesis and shared his friend’s info (a researcher in my field). I
called the researcher, who met me and gave useful sources. With his help, I revised
my paper and passed. I realized Ethan wasn’t just a noisy neighbor—he was kind.
That day taught me not to judge others quickly and to embrace unexpected help.兴宁一中高二月考一英语测试 2026年4月

I was always the type of individual who hated being called on in class. It was not due to a lack of
knowledge——I was, in fact, quite good at grasping the material. Rather, I disliked the spotlight being
shone on me. Moreover, I had few friends, and being overweight since childhood often made me the target of
jokes.
I've found a way to change all that. It began when a teacher suggested that I try out for the
basketball team. Initially, I didn't take the idea seriously at all. Being chubby (圆胖的), I just knew that
I'd only embarrass myself. But because the teacher——a favorite with me——kept insisting I “go for it”,
I decided to give it a try.
When I first started attending the practice sessions, I really didn't have a good handle on the game
of basketball. To be honest, the rules of the game were a mystery to me. Luckily, I wasn't the only one
“new” to the game, so I resolved to do my best at each practice session. I was learning, and I was
getting better even if it was little by little.
Then it became more fun and more motivating. I practiced and practiced. Pretty soon the competitive
part of me was winning over my chubby-kid complex. I began to forget that I was chubby. I even discovered
that my “size” wasn't such a disadvantage at all;I could make a basket from right under the net and block
at the same time!
Gaining self-confidence in playing inspired me to try out other things. I have gone from“hiding”
myself to raising my hand. With my new and improved self-confidence come more praises, some from teachers,
and some from teammates and classmates. But these days, they also come from the face in the mirror——which
is the“person” whose comments I value most. Best of all, I'm learning to really believe in myself.
19. Why did the author dislike being asked in class

20. How did the author feel on hearing the teacher's suggestion
A. Uninterested. B. Misguided. C. Appreciative. D. Confused.
21. How did playing basketball benefit the author
A. He dropped quite a bit of weight. B. He learned how to cooperate.
C. He developed a funny personality. D. He became sure of himself.
22. What can be the best title for the text
A. Unlocking Confidence with Teamwork B. The Secret to Competitive Sports Spirit
C. A Chubby Kid's Journey of Growth D. The Lifelong Influence of a Teacher
C
Have you ever tried relaxing on a sunny beach, but your brain's still stuck worrying That's
because our brain tends to focus on the bad stuff. This is called“negativity bias(偏见 )”, which
helped our ancestors handle potential threats but now often traps us in cycles of overthinking.
Psychologist Rick Hampson offers a science-backed solution in his book called Hardwiring Happiness.
He explains that positive moments rarely leave a lasting mark unless we deliberately engage with them.
This is where neuroplasticity, which means our brain can change and adapt based on what we do and
think, comes in.
Hampson's research, beginning in the mid-2000s, started exploring how to use brain science to
create lasting positive changes in the brain. By noticing and holding onto good experiences, we can
activate our brain's reward centers and promote positive changes. Although the sample size was small
and lacked a control group, participants reported statistically feeling better, with improvements
lasting up to two months. Then the HEAL method (Have a good experience, Enrich it, Absorb it, Link it
to other experiences) was finally developed.
Research shows that practices like mindfulness meditation(冥想) can be linked to changes in brain
structure and function. Meditation and other thoughtful practices can promote neuroplasticity. Hampson
also points out that social connections and feeling safe can reduce stress. He suggests that when we
slow down and take a moment to feel close to friends, we' re changing our brain for the better.
The real proof of Hampson's approach lies in daily practice. He encourages people to engage in
“mental hygiene” practices, which can be motivated by understanding how these activities benefit the
brain. By asking ourselves if we' re a little happier, wiser, and more loving at the end of the day,
we can take control of our well-being.
In short, Hardwiring Happiness syncretizes brain science and practical daily habits. For those
interested in transforming their well-being through science-backed methods, Hampson's book provides
valuable insights and techniques that can be easily integrated into everyday routines. By exploring
Hardwiring Happiness, you can discover more about the science of happiness and learn practical
techniques to enhance well-being.
23. What is the original function of “negativity bias”
A. To help humans to survive. B. To promote social connections.
C. To remind people of bad things. D. To prevent people overthinking.
24. How does HEAL method work according to Hampson
A. By activating brain's control centers. B. By strengthening positive experiences.
C. By fighting against brain's negativity bias. D. By removing negativity through meditation.
25. What does the underlined word“syncretizes” mean in the last paragraph
A. Combines. B. Balances. C. Guides. D. Facilitates.
26. What is the author's purpose of writing the passage
A. To display a bias. B. To introduce a concept.
C. To recommend a new book. D. To promote a new lifestyle.

Jessica Nabongo longs to set foot in every nation. She started traveling at age four, along with her
parents on family trips from Detroit, Michigan and completed her mission when she landed in the Seychelles,
having visited 195 countries. 27 Along the way, she became a writer, photographer, and passionate
advocate for inclusive and ethical tourism.
Here she talks to us about her experience and tips for traveling better.
What inspires your adventures
28 I have a strong desire to see the differences and similarities in how people live everywhere
in the world, even at home in the United States.
Did you ever experience any obstacles(阻碍)
I don't believe in failure. 29 Embarrassment isn't a natural human personality, in my eyes ——
it comes from socialization. If I fell over in the middle of Grand Central Station, I'd laugh at myself.I
firmly believe that every failure in your life is just an opportunity to learn.
30
My mother has always said“humble(使 谦 逊 ) yourself”. I appreciate it because when you
travel, depending on your passport, depending on your social class, depending on so many different things,
you can go to places with a lot of ego(自我), or you can humble yourself and know that everyone is equal.
What are some things people can do to travel in a greener way
Single-use plastic is one of the biggest things harming Earth right now, so a lot of my focus is on
that. 31 If you' re in a restaurant and you don't have a big appetite, ask for a half portion. It's
about being a deliberate(慎重的) traveler, just taking that extra minute to think how I can have a lower
impact on this place that I'm in and on the planet in general.
A. But it's not just about the country count.
B. I believe failure is the mother of success.
C. What did you depend on during your travel
D. Curiosity————— that's what's always inspired me.
E. What's the best piece of advice you' ve received
F. And I rarely feel embarrassed even in awkward situations.
G. But I also think it's important to watch how much you waste.

第四节:读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Loud music and laughter came over the fence from the neighbor's yard. It broke the quiet I had
worked so hard to make for my thesis(论文), like small pieces of broken glass.
The paper on my laptop screen had lots of red marks. My professor wrote comments on almost every part:
“Not enough facts to help your ideas.”“Your thinking is too surface-level.”“You need to rewrite Chapter
3.”
Just that afternoon, I sat in her office for 45 minutes, with my head down. She told me I would have to
postpone my graduation if I couldn't prepare the paper well in two weeks. After that, I read academic
magazines for three hours. My eyes hurt because I was so tired, but I never found any books or articles to
support my arguments. Every source felt like a dead road. And now this noise——the low, strong music——
shook my windows, and the laughter broke my weak focus. It was the last thing that made me feel like I
couldn't take it anymore.
My neighbor, Ethan, as I'd learned from a few short chats, was in his early 30s. He worked as a
designer. We had been neighbors for six months. When we talked or met, it was always calm and polite. For
example, we waved when we passed each other while getting mail. On weekends, if we both watered plants at
the same time, we might say something like“Nice weather today” in a casual way.
Our relationship as neighbors was quiet and comfortable. There was no trouble. We just respected each
other, even if we didn't say it out loud. Ethan usually stayed at home. On workdays, the light in his living
room was on until 10 o’ clock at night. I could see the soft light from his computer screen through the
curtains. On weekends, he sometimes had one or two friends over. But they spoke quietly and never bothered
anyone.
That was why the loud noise that night felt so strange and bad——it broke the quiet routine we both
kept, even if we never talked about it.
注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I closed my laptop very hard and rushed to Ethan's door, angry._______________________________________
