The National Day holiday is more than a holiday for me. It’s also a chance to return to my hometown, Chaohu. Last year, I discovered a new side of it.
It all started when my father suggested going for a drive. As we drove out of Hefei, the city’s tall buildings gradually gave way to golden fields. After about two hours, small villages began to appear. “We’ re in Chaohu now,” Dad said.
Soon, we were driving up a mountain road. As we drove higher, an amazing view (景色) opened up: a green lake was shining under the blue sky, with mountains standing tall in the distance (远方). After parking the car, we took a walk and saw rows of huge wind turbines (风力发电机). The view was powerful.
I was lost in the beauty of nature when I suddenly noticed a roadside coffee shop, which was full of young people. It turned out that we were in a small village. It wasn’t quiet. Instead, there were freshly-painted houses next to traditional ones. Local elders chatted while young visitors enjoyed their holiday. The mix was lively and beautiful.

However, gardening isn’t always easy, and my grandma meets with difficulties too. For years, a big apple tree never had any fruit. My grandma tried almost everything: she read gardening books, searched online, and even talked and sang to the tree. But nothing worked. Finally, Grandma asked her friend Jamie, an expert, for help.
“Maybe you should hit the bottom of the tree to stimulate its roots (刺激它的根),” Jamie said. Grandma thought it was strange. But she decided to give it a try. Some neighbors came out to watch and thought she was crazy. However, Grandma didn’t give up and tried it every day.
To her surprise, something amazing happened the next spring. Flowers began to grow on the apple tree, and by autumn, its branches (树枝) were heavy with fruit. My grandma was so excited that she invited all of us to enjoy the apples.

It’s common for teenagers to feel stressed or down today. Many things in their study and life can make them feel this way.
First, school life is very busy. Students are required to take classes and finish their homework every day. These will create some pressure for them. Second, friends and family can also cause stress. Doing things you enjoy is very helpful. Listen to music, play a sport, draw, or read a fun book. These can relax your mind and bring happiness.
Taking care of your body is also key. Try to sleep for eight hours each night. Eat healthy food and drink enough water. Exercise, like running or playing ball games, makes your body strong and your mind happier.
Finally, be kind to yourself. Don’t punish yourself too much for mistakes or bad feelings. Everyone has good days and bad days.
Remember, feelings change. By using these simple ways, you can learn to manage yourself.

Galim Gaisin, a 27-year-old Canadian, always wanted to be an actor—a dream he has now realized in micro-dramas (微短剧). So far, he has filmed about 30 micro-dramas.
“I really enjoy the freedom in filming micro-dramas,” Gaisin said. “Directors of micro-dramas are open to new ideas. They give actors space to bring their own personal characteristics (特征) to the roles they play.”
Gaisin isn’t the only foreign performer in micro-dramas. The rapid development of China’s micro-drama market is now attracting (吸引) many foreign talents. Another perfect example is Ashlynn Judy, 25, who flew from Los Angeles to Shanghai to film them. Although she has a degree in film studies, Judy couldn’t get enough chances back home. About three months ago, Judy gave up her job and started filming micro-dramas full-time. “It has been a life-changing experience for me—busy, fun and really great,” she said excitedly.
Behind this development are several key reasons. According to a report, micro-dramas’ popularity is mainly because of the wide use of the Internet and the busy lives of young people. Micro-dramas offer a quick way to unwind.
Gaisin and Judy are proud when their relatives or friends see their performances on mobile phones and TVs.

The horse believed the crickets. He began drinking dew from that day on and ate nothing else. As the days went by, he grew thinner and weaker. Yet, he was still unable to sing beautifully.

Hi, I’m Dennis. I’m 30 years old. I was born in Canada. When I was a child, I felt my family rules were too strict, but now I understand their importance. I started learning Chinese at the age of six. To help me learn better, my parents learned it together with me and didn’t allow me to speak English at home. Every morning, I had to read Chinese for one hour. When I was 15, I was allowed to have a part-time job. I got a job in a Chinese club. There I met my best friend Andy. We were both interested in Chinese culture. I sometimes went to his house to watch Chinese cartoons, but I always had to be back home before 8:00 pm. We get on well with each other.

I’m Ruby. I’ve got some trouble. First I’m going to introduce the background of my story. I’ve got three best friends. They’re Jean, Carmen and Maria. We’re classmates. We’re also teammates in the tennis club. Spending time with them makes me happy. But you’ll never guess what happened during our tennis game today. We played team tennis, and Jean, my partner, never let me hit the ball. Every time the ball came to my side, she’d rush in and take it. I hardly had a chance to play. Maybe she doesn’t think I’m good enough, so she didn’t let me take part in it. It drove me crazy. I know I won’t be able to sleep tonight because I’ll be thinking about what to say to her tomorrow.

The person I’ll never forget
During my junior high school years, there’s one person I’ll never forget. She is my head teacher, Ms. Zheng.
Ms. Zheng is in her forties, with short black hair and bright eyes. She’s kind but strict, always telling us to try our best. I still remember the day I got the highest score in our class’s English test. Then during lunch break, Ms. Zheng came to me and said, “Well done! But remember, there’s more to learn. Being humble is just as important as working hard.” Her words made me realize that I should always stay humble and keep improving.
Since that day, I’ve tried to be humble in everything I do. Ms. Zheng has taught me valuable lessons, and I’ll never forget her.
