write a thank-you letter
Writing a thank-you letter is a good way to thank someone. Today we will read a thank-you letter from Kelly.
(1) Who would Kelly Smith like to thank
(2) How does Kelly Smith show her thanks
She writes a thank-you letter.
Mrs Thompson.
Dear Mrs Thompson,
I want to thank you for being my teacher. You took the time to help me, although you were so busy.
Your classes always made me happy. I used to think that science was boring and difficult, and I did
badly in class. I never liked science until I took your class. You encouraged me and made science lessons
fun, and slowly, I grew more confident.
I also want to thank you for being kind to me. You helped me a lot, especially after my grandmother
passed away. I couldn’t talk about my feelings to anybody until you sat with me during lunch that day.
You listened to me and talked with me so that I felt much better. That day will always remain in my
mind. Thank you so much for being not only my teacher but also my friend.
Sincerely,
Kelly Smith

Dear Li Hua,
I want to thank you for being my deskmate. I am writing this letter to thank you for your help with my English study.
Although I studied hard for the English mid-term exam, I still failed it. I couldn’t memorize new words well, and I was even afraid to speak English in class. I almost wanted to give up English until you came to help me.
You sat with me after class and checked my exam paper carefully. You also made word cards with me to help me remember new words, and we practiced English dialogues every morning. You encouraged me to raise my hand in class so that I could practice speaking and build up my confidence.
Because of your help, I am not afraid of English anymore and feel more confident in learning it. Thank you very much for your patience and kindness.
Yours,
[Your Name]
