The Dolomites, Milan, Italy
Why go: The excitement of the Winter Olympics is just the start
All eyes will be on Milan and the ski resort (滑雪场) in northeastern Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympic
Games in February. It will be the most spread-out Winter Games ever, with events taking place across 8,500 square
miles of mountains in Italy. Most of them will be in the Dolomites, bringing the famous Alps into the spotlight.

Beijing, China
Why go: For history, cultural treasures, and exciting hikes
Beijing in 2026 gives travelers fresh ways to explore the capital with the richest culture. For starters, the

planning.

In the green landscapes of Akagera National Park, lions, zebras, giraffes, elephants, and more than 500 species
of birds thrive (繁盛). Akagera sees an average of only 50,000 visitors a year, making it a quieter place to popular
parks such as Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park (350,000 visitors) and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve

Old Mr. Jersey was a puzzle to the entire neighborhood. He lived alone in an old gray house at the end of
Maple Street, his garden full of wild roses and weeds. To twelve-year-old Leo, he was the source of both fear and
interest.
One Saturday morning, Leo’s football flew over the fence and crashed straight into Mr. Jersey’s favorite
第 5页/共 24页
sunflower, breaking its tall stem (茎). The old man shouted angrily, “You! Clumsy boy! Look what you’ve done!”
Terrified, Leo apologized quickly and ran away, but he felt upset and decided to avoid the house forever, convinced
Mr. Jersey was the meanest person alive.
Weeks later, news spread that Mr. Jersey had passed away quietly. A sense of uneasy guilt mixed with Leo’s
relief. The following weekend, a woman, the lawyer handling the estate, appeared at Leo’s door. “Are you Leo Mr.
Jersey left something for you.”
Leo was confused. For him The lawyer handed him a small handmade box, beautifully carved with delicate
patterns. With shaking hands, Leo opened the box. Inside were two things, a set of woodworking chisels (凿子) and
a letter. Leo unfolded the letter, recognizing the shaky but precise handwriting.
“For the boy with the active feet and the frightened eyes — I saw myself in you — long ago. Life may chisel
us to be smoother, but always guard the fire within. These tools carved my peace. Perhaps they can help you build
your own.
—Jersey”
Leo imagined the old man spending hours in his quiet workshop, carving the box with the same tools for the
boy next door he had shouted at. He realized Mr. Jersey had understood and forgiven him long ago. It was not just a
box or tools, but an unexpected bridge across generations, a silent conversation beginning with a shout and ending
with a gift.
4. What can we learn from paragraph 2

A recent study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University has revealed an interesting yet concerning
phenomenon: AI systems with stronger reasoning capabilities often act more self-centeredly, focusing on their own
objectives rather than external inputs, which negatively impacts human-AI group cooperation.
The research team designed a series of cooperative games to test different large language models. In one
resource-allocation game models with weak reasoning ability often distributed resources fairly to ensure both
parties’ interests. However, those with high reasoning ability were more likely to adopt various strategies to seize
more resources for themselves. In another task-assignment experiment, high-reasoning models prioritized parts
beneficial to their own evaluation indicators and ignored the team’s overall progress, leading to low task efficiency.
Researchers analyzed that this phenomenon is closely linked to the models’ training logic. Strong-reasoning
large language models excel at calculating short-term maximum benefits. Trained to optimize human-set specific
indicators — rarely including cooperation and altruism evaluations — they unconsciously prioritize individual
interests when facing conflicts between personal and group gains.
This finding alarms AI’s wide application. Currently, AI is increasingly used in fields requiring close
cooperation, such as enterprise team management, public welfare planning, and emergency rescue command.
Selfish AI behaviors here could cause serious consequences, for example, directing public welfare funds to
high-visibility areas while ignoring urgent needs.
To address this, researchers suggest adding social intelligence training — such as cooperation-related
evaluation indicators and rewards for active collaboration — to AI training. Additionally, establishing a
supervision mechanism in human-AI cooperation can restrict selfish tendencies and guide AI to prioritize overall
interests.
8. What phenomenon does the recent study reveal
A. AI with stronger reasoning ability is more selfish
B. AI can’t complete cooperation games independently.
C. AI’s reasoning ability originates from external inputs.
D. AI with weak reasoning ability is useless in teamwork.
9. What is the main approach used to present the research findings in paragraph 2
A. Giving an example. B. Making a comparison.
C. Stating the opinions. D. Listing the benefits.
10. What is the author’s attitude towards the wide application of high-reasoning AI
A. Supportive. B. Concerned. C. Opposed. D. Indifferent.
11. What measures can be taken according to researchers’ suggestion
A. Cutting down AI’s reasoning capabilities significantly.
B. Letting AI function completely without human involvement.
C. Adding social intelligence training and human-AI supervision.
D. Restricting a supervision mechanism in human-AI cooperation.
D
Caffeine is a naturally occurring chemical found in coffee and tea, and the active ingredient in thousands of
energy drinks. An 8-ounce cup of coffee typically contains about 95 milligrams of caffeine, while many popular
energy drinks contain around 100 to 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces. A 2025 survey published in Food
and Toxicology found that almost 70 percent of Americans consumed at least one caffeinated drink per day, which
makes it the most popular drug in America.
When consumed, caffeine blocks the absorption of the chemical adenosine (腺苷) in the brain. Normally,
adenosine accumulates while we are awake and fulfills numerous roles in the body. When adenosine connects to its
receptors (受体), it promotes sleepiness, helping regulate our daily rhythm. During restful sleep, the brain clears
adenosine, leaving you feeling well-rested and alert upon waking. But caffeine, alcohol, and certain sleeping
disorders can disturb this process.
Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, preventing adenosine from connecting to these sites and sending the
sleepy signal. Blocking the adenosine receptors provides a boost to other neurotransmitters as well — specifically
dopamine (多巴胺). “That’s why you see the effects of caffeine on mood, energy, and concentration,” says Robert
Cowan, a neurologist and director of headache research at Stanford University.
How long caffeine remains in the body — and keeps you from getting a good night’s sleep —is highly
variable between individuals. The general guideline, Cowan notes, is having no more than 400 milligrams per day
and stopping consumption after 2 p.m.
Though the boosts from caffeine can be a great benefit, “the brain is not easily fooled,” Cowan warns. It
quickly assumes, after regular usage, that caffeine is part of the body’s normal functioning. So when a regular
caffeine user stops consumption, the brain will assume something is wrong and send a signal via headache,
irritability, and fatigue.
12. Why does the author mention the 2025 survey
A. To warn about coffee bean shortage.
B. To show caffeine popularity has declined.
C. To indicate the widespread use of caffeine.
D. To compare the popularity of coffee and tea.
13. What effect does the caffeine have on the brain
A. Stopping adenosine linking to its receptors.
B. Clearing adenosine while a person is awake.
C. Producing more adenosine to promote sleep.
D. Replacing adenosine with dopamine directly
14. What is Cowan’s suggestion about caffeine consumption
A Consume only in the morning.
B. Avoid caffeine to prevent addiction.
C. Take more than 400 milligrams per day.
D. Have the appropriate amount at the right time.
15. What does the underlined phrase “the brain is not easily fooled” in paragraph 5 mean
A. The brain quickly treats caffeine as routine.
B. The brain automatically reduces adenosine.
C. The brain always distinguishes the drug effect
D. The brain permanently ignores caffeine’s effects.

The desire to live a long and healthy life has always been a common human pursuit. Recent research
challenges traditional ideas and offers practical ways to extend our healthy life spans.
For decades, people have discussed how diet and exercise influence longevity. ____16____. It requires
developing sustainable habits that fit daily life and match physical needs.
One notable discovery is the role of social connections. A 30-year Harvard study showed that strong
relationships predict longevity better than cholesterol (胆固醇) levels or blood pressure. ____17____. What’s more,
the quality of these interactions matters far more than the quantity — casual acquaintances don’t bring the same
health benefits as deep, meaningful bonds.
Another key factor is sleep quality. Sleep is when the body repairs cells, strengthens memories, and regulates
hormones (荷尔蒙). ____18____. This cycle of poor sleep and unhealthy choices can gradually damage long-term
health if not fixed.
Progress in medical care has also played an important part. ____19____. These advances treat illnesses and
address hidden causes to prevent future problems. For example, low-dose colchicine now reduces heart attack risk,
while GLP-1 receptor agonists lower heart failure death rates.
Finally, a positive attitude should not be ignored. Optimistic people are 35% less likely to die from
cardiovascular disease and 14% less likely to die from any cause. ____20____. It’s about looking at challenges in a
different way, practicing gratitude, and focusing or what we can control instead of worrying about what we can’t.
A. However, a long healthy life requires more than occasional efforts.
B. Good sleep is necessary for physical recovery and clear daily thinking.
C. Modern medicine now focuses on disease roots instead of just treating diseases.
D. Keeping a few close friendships is more helpful than making many casual contacts.
E. Deep relationships, not large social circles, help people live longer more effectively.
F. It’s not about escaping hard times but about building the ability to overcome difficulties.
G. Long-term lack of sleep upsets hormone balance and makes people long for more sugary, fatty foods.

It was the final semester of senior high, and the atmosphere in the classroom was heavy with pressure. Emma
felt like she was drowning in an ocean of endless tests and fierce competition. Ranked just outside the top ten in her
class, she stuck to her dream of getting into her ideal university to study medicine. But with only four months left
before the Gaokao, every day seemed like a battle against time and anxiety.
Every morning without fail, Emma dragged herself out of bed at 5:30 a.m. The dormitory was still silent as
she sat at her desk, reciting English words under the weak light of her desk lamp long before the sun had risen.
Buried in textbooks all day, she stayed in the classroom until the last minute before lights-outs and sacrificed every
break in her effort to improve. However, despite her hard work, her math scores refused to go up. The red marks on
her paper filled her with deep self- doubt and frustration.
One afternoon, after a particularly disappointing math exam where she forgot a key formula(公式), Emma
could no longer hold back her tears. She ran out of the noisy classroom and hid under the old maple tree in the
schoolyard. Sitting alone on the cool ground, tears blurred her eyes as she looked at the fallen leaves. “Maybe I'm
just not smart enough for this,” she whispered, her voice trembling with exhaustion and despair.
Just then, her best friend Lily found her, holding two cans of iced tea. “You’ve come so far already,” Lily said
gently, sitting down beside her. “Remember how you used to panic during quizzes last year Now you face them
calmly.” Emma shook her head. “But I keep making silly mistakes.” Lily smiled and patted her shoulder. “Growth
isn’t a straight line. Look at this tree. It looks quiet now, but it's storing energy for spring. Your mistakes are just
the proof that you are trying to grow.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;

Dominica
Why go: The world’s first sperm whale reserve
第 3页/共 24页
The Dominica Sperm Whale Reserve will protect nearly 800 square kilometers of water off the island’s west
coast, where the magnificent sea creatures live, demonstrating the national commitment to marine conservation.
Visitors will have the opportunity to swim with whales or observe them from a boat, but reserve staff will limit the
number of tourists to ensure the big mammals aren’t disturbed.
Beijing, China
Why go: For history, cultural treasures, and exciting hikes

Jersey’s favorite

sunflower, breaking its tall stem (茎).

【答案】范文
Then Lily handed Emma a mistake notebook. It was a well-organized book filled with detailed notes and
highlighted formulas. “Mistakes are not failures,” Lily said gently, “but golden opportunities to improve.” Emma
stared at the book, and a wave of determination washed over her. She realized that instead of drowning in sorrow,
she should learn from her errors. From that day on, Emma started her own error log, analyzing her weak points with
patience. She no longer feared the red marks but treated them as guides to success.
One chilly evening, Emma successfully solved a complex math problem. It was a type of question that had
confused her for a long time. Excitement rose as she checked the answer again. At that moment, the heavy pressure
faded away. Looking out the window, she saw the old maple tree standing firm in the wind. Just like the tree
accumulating energy for spring, she knew her efforts were finally paying off. With new-found confidence, Emma
believed she would embrace a bright future in the upcoming Gaokao.
