In the UK, many families have home libraries with all kinds of books. Children begin reading at a very young age, and joining book clubs is very popular. Members get together to discuss a book, share their ideas, and talk about their favourite parts. British people still prefer paper books to e-books in their daily life.
In Australia, every school has a special "reading time" each day. Students can choose any book they are interested in. Teachers advise them to keep reading for at least 20 minutes every day. Many schools also hold reading competitions to encourage students to read more and fall in love with books.

Dorothy lived in the middle of the Kansas plains with her uncle Henry and aunt Em. Their small house was simple and had only one room. There were no trees or flowers around, just a long, grey plain.
One day, the sky turned dark. A strong cyclone was coming. The wind blew loudly, and the house began to shake. Uncle Henry and aunt Em quickly climbed into the small cellar under the house. But Dorothy was too slow. She held her little dog Toto tightly and stood in the room.
Suddenly, the house was lifted up by the wind. It flew high, high above the ground. Dorothy felt as if she was going on a ride. She was not very afraid, but she held on to Toto and waited. Hours later, the house fell down softly with a gentle shake.
When Dorothy opened the door, she found herself in a beautiful new land. The grass was green, and there were colourful flowers everywhere. She saw little people wearing bright clothes. Books are our best friends in life. We can read novels, magazines, history books and science books in our free time. However, with so many books around us, it is not easy to pick out really good ones. Here is some advice on how to choose a right and great book for yourself.
First, choose books based on your own interest. If you are curious about nature and animals, books about the natural world are suitable for you. If you enjoy moving stories, classic novels will be a wise choice. Reading what you truly like makes the reading time relaxing and enjoyable.
Second, pay attention to the difficulty level. A good book should be neither too hard nor too easy for you. Books that are too difficult may make you feel worried and give up easily, while easy ones cannot help you learn new things or make progress.
Third, choose books with great ideas and excellent language. Such books can bring you new knowledge, improve your vocabulary and teach you how to think in a better way. They have a deep influence on your study and personality.
Fourth, turn to others for help. You can ask your parents, teachers or friends for good book suggestions. You can also read book reviews online to know more about a book before deciding to read it.
A good book can enrich our mind and make our life more wonderful.
