Best Places to Visit for a Perfect Getaway
Spring is the golden season for traveling, with mild weather, blooming scenery and fewer
crowds in many top bining traveler feedback, professional weather analysis and
travel experience, we’ve picked four amazing places that shine in spring, each offering a unique
and unforgettable journey for different types of travelers.
Costa Rica
March and April bring consistent sunshine to Costa Rica, with daytime temperatures ranging
from 25℃ to 32℃—ideal for outdoor adventures. Travelers can challenge themselves with
thrilling whitewater rafting on the country’s rushing rivers or explore the lush rainforests on
guided hiking trails, where exotic birds and colorful plants are everywhere. Note that spring falls
in Costa Rica’s peak tourist season, so it’s wise to book hotels and tour tickets at least three
months in advance to avoid disappointment.
Yellowstone National Park, USA
As the winter snow melts gradually and the temperature rises, Yellowstone National Park
comes back to life in spring. Baby animals such as deer, bison and wolves step out with their
parents, making it a paradise for wildlife lovers. Hikers can walk on the well-maintained trails,
keeping an eye out for grizzly bears and black bears that wake up from hibernation with their
cubs. The fresh air and the sound of flowing water also make spring the perfect time to enjoy the
park’s natural beauty without the summer crowds.
Puebla, Mexico
Located in central Mexico, Puebla is a city full of history and flavor, and spring is the best
time to visit before the rainy summer arrives. As a UNESCO World Heritage City, it boasts
stunning colonial architecture, including the famous Templo de Santo Domingo with its
magnificent baroque design. Visitors can wander around the lively central square, visit world-class
art museums, and taste authentic Mexican cuisine—especially the city’s signature mole poblano, a
rich and spicy sauce that’s known worldwide. The dry and warm spring weather makes it easy to
explore every corner of this charming city.
Lake Tahoe, USA
Straddling the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is a year-round destination, but
it’s exceptionally peaceful in spring. By mid-April, the ski resorts on the mountains have closed
for the season, and the summer boating and camping crowds haven’t arrived yet. Travelers can
hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the crystal-clear lake and
snow-capped mountain peaks. However, it’s important to keep in mind that spring temperatures
here are much cooler than in other spring destinations, with daytime highs often below 20℃ and
chilly nights.

A. They all have a rainy spring season. B. They are all ideal to visit in spring.
C. They all lie in the United States. D. They all charge high tourist fees.

Pioneering eye doctor Professor Fred Hollows had a simple vision that everyone in the world
should have access to good eye care and sight-restoring surgery. Instead of building a profitable
private practice, Fred chose to focus on breaking down the barriers to eye care for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and for people in poor countries worldwide.
Unfortunately, in 1989, Fred was diagnosed with cancer. Knowing his time was limited, he
became a man on a mission to make sure his work would continue. Just before he passed away in
1993, he was convinced by his wife, Gabi Hollows, to establish The Fred Hollows Foundation.
Gabi, the Foundation’s founding director, describes their work as “like dropping a stone in the
lake and watching the ripples grow.”
Fred’s early approach was simple: treat eye problems, train local eye health workers, and
make technology affordable. This “treat, train and equip” method became the blueprint for the
Foundation’s work. For example, in Nepal, Fred partnered with a young doctor, Sanduk Ruit.
Together, they set up training and built factories that could produce high-quality lenses (晶体) for
eye surgery for less than $5, a huge reduction from the $150 they cost in industrialised countries.
Over the past 30 years, The Fred Hollows Foundation has restored sight to more than 3
million people worldwide. It has also delivered over 200 million doses of antibiotics to fight
trachoma (沙眼 ), an infectious disease that causes blindness. The Foundation has persuaded
governments to include eye health in their national health plans.
Fred was driven by a powerful sense of injustice. He believed it was “not right to let people
go blind when they don’t have to.” Today, the Foundation he inspired is one of Australia’s
best-known charities. Though there are still many challenges, his Foundation and his spirit live on,
ensuring his crucial work continues across the globe.
24. Why was The Fred Hollows Foundation established
A. To continue Fred’s mission. B. To expand a private clinic.
C. To get support from government. D. To honor Gabi Hollows.
25. How was lens cost reduced
A. By importing cheaper ones. B. By producing lens locally.
C. By receiving donations. D. By reusing surgical lenses.
26. Which words can best describe Fred
A. Selfless and responsible. B. Ambitious and humble.
C. Reserved and ordinary. D. Cautious and fortunate.
27. What does the passage mainly describe
A. Advances in eye surgery. B. A doctor’s charity mission.
C. The history of trachoma. D. Charity management in Australia.

Is this text AI-generated That question crops up a lot these puter software to flag
AI-generated text exists. But most programs share one crucial weakness, says Jun Jang: no sense
of style. His new software hopes to fill that gap.
Jun’s program takes note of a writer’s stylistic characteristics. It can then use those
characteristics to check if another text was written by the same person. Jun says his project was
motivated by seeing students admit using AI tools on classroom assignments.
But relying too much on these tools can erode someone’s creativity. It can also harm their
ability to work out problems themselves, Jun says. And young people are most at risk. “I figured
that by me making an attempt to solve this issue, I could help millions of teachers as well as
maybe help kids become more creative and spark more innovation.” Jun says.
AI use for homework is not rare. The Turnitin program is an existing tool to check who wrote
a piece of text. In the first year it was available, it analyzed more than 200 million student papers.
Last year, it reported evidence that some 11 in every 100 papers it reviewed had used AI for at
least a fifth of their text. Three in every 100 papers used AI for four-fifths of their content.
“That’s absolutely no surprise,” Jun says. Some forms of generative AI are powerful,
game-changing technologies. “Using AI can be good for education, obviously,” he says, “But a lot
of kids don’t use it properly.”
Since the release of some AI software, teachers increasingly have had to make hard calls.
They must decide whether a student wrote an essay, or just asked a machine to write it.
Wrongfully flagging some student’s work as cheating would decrease the student’s trust in their
teacher.
Jun’s new program hopes to limit that.
28. What does Jun’s new software focuses on
A. Text length. B. Content logic. C. Word count. D. Writing style.
29. What does the underlined word “erode” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Build. B. Strengthen. C. Damage. D. Improve.
30. What does Jun Jang say about students using AI for assignments
A. It is always harmful. B. It can be improperly used.
C. It should be banned. D. It promotes true innovation.
31. What does Jun’s new program aim to do
A. Increase students’ writing speed. B. Generate more essays for students.
C. Teach students to use AI properly. D. Help teachers make right judgments.

The Hidden World of Relaxation: How Your Body and Mind Recharge
Have you ever felt completely exhausted after a long day of study, only to find yourself
refreshed after a good night’s sleep or a relaxing weekend This isn’t just a feeling; it’s a complex
biological process. Understanding how our bodies and minds relax can help us manage stress and
improve our overall well-being.
Relaxation is the body’s natural way of recharging its batteries. When we are stressed, our
body produces hormones like adrenaline, which prepares us for “fight or flight”. While useful in
short bursts long-term stress can be harmful. True relaxation, however, shifts our body into the
“rest and digest” mode. During this state, our heart rate slows, our breathing becomes deeper and
more regular, and muscle tension decreases. This process is essential for repairing tissues and
strengthening our immune system.
Our brain activity also changes significantly when we relax. Instead of the active,
problem-solving beta waves, the brain produces more calming alpha waves. This is often when
creativity flourishes. Have you ever had a brilliant idea while taking a walk or shower That’s
your relaxed brain at work! Furthermore, relaxation is crucial for memory consolidation — the
process of transferring new learned information from short-term to long-term memory. This is
why getting enough sleep and taking breaks are vital for students; it helps solidify the knowledge
gained from a day of lessons.
However, modern life, with its constant notifications and busy schedules, can make it
challenging to achieve deep relaxation. Simply watching TV or scrolling through social media
might feel like relaxing, but these activities often keep the brain stimulated. More effective
methods include deep breathing exercises, spending time in nature, listening to calm music, or
practicing mindfulness. These activities actively encourage the physiological changes needed for
true recovery.
Learning to relax effectively is not a sign of laziness but a skill for sustainable health and
productivity. By scheduling regular periods of genuine relaxation, we allow our bodies and minds
to recover, ensuring we have the energy and focus to face future challenges.
32.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To explain the dangers of modern technology.
B.To discuss the biological importance of relaxation and how it works.
C.To compare different methods of studying for students.
D.To argue that sleep is the only effective form of relaxation.
33.What happens to the body during the “rest and digest” mode
A.The heart rate increases and breathing becomes faster.
B.The body produces more adrenaline for action.
C.The heart rate slows and muscle tension decreases.
D.The brain stops processing information completely.
34.The author mentions “having a brilliant idea while taking a walk” to illustrate that _________
A.a relaxed brain can be more creative
B.walking is the best form of exercise for students
C.stress is necessary for generating good ideas
D.we should avoid traditional problem-solving methods
35.According to the author, why scrolling through social media might not be truly relaxing
A.Because it requires a high-speed internet connection.
B.Because it is a waste of time and should be avoided.
C.Because it keeps the brain stimulated instead of calming it down.
D.Because it prevents people from communicating face-to-face.
第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余
选项。
Ways of Studying and Learning Efficiently
Choose a quiet place to study without distractions. The more time you spend studying, the
more you’ll learn and the better grades you’ll earn. 36 So remove all distractions (cell
phones, television, loud/fast-paced music, and talkative friends/family members), to ensure a
calm, focused environment.
Take short breaks from studying. 37 So plan to take a 10-minute break after each
hour. If you get stuck on a certain topic, that’s a good time to take a little break so you can come
back refreshed. Set a timer on your phone or another device so a short 10-minute breather doesn’t
turn into 30 minutes of delay.
38 Reading books that challenge you can expand your vocabulary and comprehension
skills, which is useful when a teacher assigns linguistically (语言方面 ) difficult texts. If you are
not already an active reader, start at your level and work your way up.
Study for quizzes and tests early. If you have a big test coming up, start studying a few days
to a week before the test, or even when the test is announced. Make a study schedule, breaking up
your time into sections, and stick to it. 39
Create mind maps of topics to help you learn new things. Mind-maps help you make
connections between old and new information. 40 This practice is especially useful when
you need to brainstorm ideas for big projects. To create a mind map, write the topic in the center,
add lines that point in different directions, and write your ideas on top of the lines.
A Remind yourself of your goals to stay motivated.
B. Read as much as you can to expand your vocabulary.
C. Your brain needs time to rest and digest information.
D. But the quality of your study time needs to be efficient.
E. These connections provide new contexts so you remember facts better.
F. Find time to study when most of your friends are doing something else.
G. Studying the night before a test doesn’t allow you to fully absorb information.

As a traveler from Europe with a deep interest in history, my trip to China would not have
been complete without a visit 56 the Wang Family Compound in Shanxi. Located about
35 kilometers from Pingyao Ancient City, it is one of the largest ancient residential buildings
57 can be found in China. Covering over 150,000 square meters, it has five courtyards and
more than 300 rooms for visitors 58 (see). Walking through its alleys, I felt as if I had
stepped back into the Qing Dynasty.
Many courtyards are decorated with richly painted walls and carved doors, giving the
buildings a truly 59 (impress) atmosphere. When I visited there, I couldn’t stop 60
(take) photographs, as every corner seemed to tell a story.
The Gaojiaya area interested me most. The buildings there were carefully maintained,
giving the community the 61 (need) space to reconnect with their traditions. The workers’

the trip was truly worth it. I learned that the Wang family was once 64 global trader, and
their compound reflects that international outlook. Standing on the high walls, I began to 65

When the shrill (尖锐的) ring of the phone echoed (回响) through the living room, Jane
was still sleeping. She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the bedside table.
It was already nine o’clock! Though still sleepy, Jane knew she had to get up because her mother
had been working in her office day and night for several days, and she couldn’t expect her
younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the phone. She quickly put on a coat
and dashed into the living room. As she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm
greeting, “Good morning, my dear!”
It was the voice of her father, a seaman who seldom returned home due to his duties,
earning money to support the family. On hearing her father’s voice, Jane’s sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to
enjoy the family atmosphere (氛围 ). At school, they were straight-A students and took part in
various after-school activities, earning the pride of their parents.
“Good morning, Dad. Why are you calling so early on a weekend ” Jane asked, pretending
to be slightly annoyed. “Tom and I have been very nice recently.” “My dear, today is your mother’
s birthday. I have ordered a cake online and it will arrive at our doorstep in the late morning. Do
remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother.”
Upon hearing her father’s words, Jane felt a twinge of embarrassment (尴尬). How could
she have forgotten such an important day!
While chatting with her father, Jane’s eyes wandered around the room, and she saw a lot of
dirty clothes scattered (散落) on the sofa. The floor hadn’t been cleaned for a few days, since her
mother had been too busy with work to deal with such housework.
Looking at the clock again, Jane realized she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for
her mother.
“Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!” Jane said
and hung up the telephone.
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him.__________________________

W: Have you noticed that people here in Mexico stand very close together
M: Yes. It’s the same in Peru too.
W: It’s the opposite in Britain. I was a little uncomfortable here at first. But after a few days, I’m
getting used to it.
Text2
W: I went to a really wonderful museum with my friends yesterday.
M: You mean the nature museum Daisy.
W: No, it was the science museum that took my breath away and there was a show of robots. We
were supposed to go to the art museum, but it was closed.
Text3
W: The light will be turned off in a quarter of an hour.
M: What time is it now
W: It’s 10:15.
M: That’s OK. It’s enough to get everything ready.
Text4
W: I want the kind of luck that let me win lots of money. I could do many things I wanted to do.
M: Wake up from your dream now. The floor hasn’t been cleaned yet. Let’s get down to work.
Text5
M: Amy, should we take an umbrella for the hike The morning news said there would be showers
till noon.
W: No need. The latest update says it’ll clear up by afternoon, and the sun should come out later.
M: Good to know.
Text6
W: Mark, have you seen the new café menu
M: Yes, they’ve added new dishes, including healthy salads and sweets. What do you think
W: I love it! I’ve been trying to eat more healthily. I’m going to try some vegetable dishes today.
And you
M: The fruit cake is calling my name. I’m very glad they’re offering more options now. By the
way, do you have soccer practice later
W: Yes, at 2:00 p.m., but it’s just a light 30-minute practice today. Are you coming to watch
M: I’ll come if I finish my English homework in time.
W: Okay!
Text7
W: Hey! Funny running into you here. Are you getting food for dinner too
M: Yes, I’m in charge of the shopping today. I want to make hamburgers tonight.

W: Yeah, but then my friend John started making a joke. He said, “Wow, you look like you just
took a swim in your own drink!”
M: Hahaha, that’s funny! How did you react
W: I just laughed along with him. I mean, what else could I do It was kind of embarrassing, but
his joke made it better.
M: Right. Laughter is the best medicine. So, do you think making jokes in such situations is a
good idea
W: Yeah, I do. I think it helps to lighten the mood. When something awkward happens, a
well-timed joke can turn the situation around.
M: I agree. So, what do you usually do when you see someone in an embarrassing situation
W: I usually try to make a light-hearted joke to help them feel better. I think it shows empathy and
can make the other person feel more comfortable.
Text9
M: Hello, I’m collecting opinions on the festival. Would you mind if I take up a little of your
time
W: Of course not.
M: Is this your first time at the festival here in Cambridge
W: No, I come here every year!
M: Why do you like it
W: Well, it’s an interesting event to come to. It’s great for kids and adults. I enjoy learning about
all the new ideas people have on important topics. We don’t usually have time for that in daily
life, but this festival offers that chance.
M: So, what kinds of things do you learn Do you concentrate on learning just one thing
W: No, I go to several events. For example, today I went to a lecture about English literature.
Yesterday I played games to find out about gravity. It was a science activity. And tomorrow, I’m
going to a lecture on the global economy.
M: Thank you for your time.

For a long time, people have been burying their garbage. Unfortunately, there is less and less
empty land that can be used as garbage places in our planet today. Yet more and more garbage is
being produced each year. How should we manage our garbage Do we have enough energy
sources to meet our future energy needs These are two of the most important questions in the
modern world. And many people are trying to find the answers. Some people think that we might
be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest that garbage should be used as an
energy source. For example, some cities in the United States have been burning garbage to create
fuel for years. But studies have shown that it is not a good idea. Burning garbage for energy
causes many serious problems. Garbage that burns easily, such as plastics and paper, must be
separated from metals, glass and other materials that do not burn easily. This separation process is
very costly, therefore not being done in most places. Another huge problem with burning garbage
is air pollution.参考答案

Dear fellow students,
I feel greatly honored to stand here and give a speech entitled “To Know, To Participate”.
As we all know, cultural heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and
what we pass on to future generations. Therefore, it is of great importance for us to protect it.
First of all, we should know more about cultural heritage by attending campus lectures,
reading related documents, or watching documentaries. Besides, we can take part in volunteer
work in museums during our spare time.
Protecting cultural heritage is our shared responsibility. Let’s take action now!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分 25分)
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him. After listening to Jane, Tom
readily accepted her idea. The big cleaning plan began. Jane collected the clothes from the sofa
and began to do the laundry. Meanwhile, Tom was busy cleaning the floor back and forth with all
his strength, really aware of what tiring work his Mum had at home! One hour later, the cleaning
work was finally finished. They even prepared a simple breakfast for Mum. With everything ready
for the big moment, they knocked at their mother’s bedroom door excitedly.
“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door.
Confused and surprised, Mum stood frozen. When Mum realized what had happened, a warm
current rose in her heart. Staring at the clean floor and the washed clothes, she was moved to tears
and hugged them tightly. “It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!” Mum said proudly. Around
11 a.m., another surprise — the cake that Dad had ordered — arrived as well. Mum took out her
smartphone, took a picture of the three of them eating the cake happily, and sent it to Dad. What
an unforgettable birthday for her!
