At the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala,a group of special performers impressed everyone. They were not famous singers or dancers-they were humanoid robots,WuBOT.And compared to their performance last year, the improvement was truly amazing.
These robots had appeared on the stage for the first time at the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala.Back then, they could only perform simple moves like turning handkerchiefs(方巾) and doing a traditional folk dance,Yangko.Although it was fun to watch, their movements were slow and not very smooth. Some people even joked that they looked like babies learning to walk.
▲They jumped over obstacles with ease. They showed off martial arts moves and even handled weapons skillfully. At one point,a robot as tall as a human showed off its sword skills(剑术),moving quickly and exactly. Most surprisingly, they did all this while keeping perfect formation(队形),moving together as one group at high speed.
In the opinion of robotics experts, this kind of group performance is very difficult to achieve. Each robot must communicate with the others in real time and adjust(调节) its movements within milliseconds. The fact that they could perform without any mistakes shows how far China's robotics technology has come.
Some people might say that WuBOT's performance was not so impressive. But honestly, there is no need to feel ashamed.Every great achievement has a beginning. What really matters is the progress made in just one year.As Elon Musk once said,China is already leading the world in robotics.
Of course, humanoid robots are still in the early stages. They are not yet part of our daily lives. But when we see how much they have improved in such a short time,we can truly say:the future is closer than we think.
19.Which of the following sentences can be put in the blank"▲"in Paragraph 3? ______
A. But just one year later, everything changed.
B. However, the robots last year were not very popular.
C. The robots this year were similar to those last year.
D. Many people were disappointed with the robots' performance.
20.Why does the writer mention Elon Musk's words in Paragraph 5? ______
A. To show that Elon Musk is interested in robots.
B. To prove that China's robotics technology is world-leading.
C. To explain why robots are important for the future.
D. To compare Chinese robots with those in other countries.
21.What does the writer mean by saying"the future is closer than we think"in the last paragraph? ______
A. Humanoid robots will enter our daily lives very soon.
B. China will become the strongest country in the world.
C. Robots will soon be able to think like humans.
D. Last year's robots were better than expected.
22.What is the main idea of the passage? ______
A. The robots were not so good as people expected.
B. China's robot technology has a long and successful history.
C. Robots will replace humans in future Spring Festival Galas.
D. China's robotics technology has made great progress in just one year.
C
Have you ever looked at a calendar and wondered why February is so short? While most months have 30 or 31 days,February has only 28-except every four years, when it gets an extra day. This unusual fact has its roots in ancient history.
Long ago,the Romans used a calendar that had only 10 months. It started in March and ended in December.
The winter period between December and March was simply not named. For the Romans, this time of year was unimportant because there was no farming work to do.
Around 700 BC,the second king of Rome,Numa Pompilius, decided to make a change. He wanted the calendar to better match the cycles of the moon. His new calendar had 355 days in a year.To reach this number,he added two new months at the end:January and February.
But Numa had a problem. The Romans believed that even numbers were unlucky. So he wanted every month to have an odd number of days-either 29 or 31.However,if he did this, the total days would add up to an even number.
To solve this, one month had to be even.February was chosen, probably because the Romans honored the dead in this month and considered it unlucky.
For years, people used Numa's calendar. But it still didn't match the solar year perfectly. In 45 BC,Julius Caesar asked an astronomer to create a new calendar based on the sun. This calendar, known as the Julian calendar, added 10 days to the year. Most months got one or two extra days, but February remained at 28 days.Every four years,a leap year(闰年) added one day to February to keep the calendar in line with the seasons.
This system worked so well that we still use a similar one today. So the next time you look at February and wish it were longer, remember:its shortness is a gift from ancient Roman history.
23.What was the Roman calendar like before Numa Pompilius? ______
A. It had 12 months with names for each.
B. It started in January and ended in December.
C. It had 10 months and no names for winter months.
D. It was exactly the same as the calendar we use today.
24.Which sentence has "even"with the same meaning as"even numbers"in Paragraph 4? ______
A. 2,4,6 and 8 are even,but 1,3,5 and 7 are not.
B. The table surface is not completely even.
C. She even helped me clean the room after the party.
D. Even though it rained,we still enjoyed the picnic.
25.According to the passage, which of the following are reasons why February became the shortest month? ______
①Numa wanted the calendar to match the cycles of the moon.
②The Romans thought even numbers were unlucky.
③February was the month when Romans honored the dead.
④Julius Caesar added days to other months but not to February.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
26.How does the writer mainly explain why February has 28 days? ______
A. By listing all the months and their number of days.
B. By describing how farmers planned their work each year.
C. By comparing different calendars from around the world.
D. By telling the story of how the Roman calendar changed over time.
